Do you have a good Gambling story?

My wife and I go to Vegas 1 to 2 times per year and play mostly pai gow poker. I enjoy craps and blackjack a lot but pai gow is the only game she’ll play, which is fine because I love it as well. We were playing at the Flamingo at a $15 table one afternoon. We always play the $5 dollar side bet because it gives you the chance for a big win. A woman and her husband had been playing there for several hours. He was hammered but was still a pretty funny guy. Both of them refused to play the bonus at all and of course were not playing the progressive either. The wife hits 5 aces and wins only $15 on what would have been $4000 on the bonus and $28,000 on the progressive. My wife and I both got $250 on the envy bonus on her hand. Her husband of course won nothing since he wasn’t playing an envy bonus. I felt bad for her but she just laughed and kept on betting without the bonus. I don’t really blame her though because over the years I’ve certainly lost way more money on the bonus than I’ve won but that side bet makes it fun. It makes it actual gambling.

Not really a gambling thing, but one other time I was playing at The Linq in Vegas. A lady sat down next to me and when the waitress came around she ordered a Busch Light. The waitress laughed and said we don’t have that here. The lady ordered some other beer and as the waitress walked away I said to the lady “You’re from Iowa, aren’t you?” She got this shocked look on her face and asked how I knew. I said only an Iowan will order a Busch Light in Vegas. She was from Dubuque. We all had a good laugh.

MY real gambling story is.......
Back in 1967, as a HS graduation present, my dad had a week long pharmacy convention in Vegas....and took me along....he would convention and play KENO all day and he sent me to the local golf course,,,,,,Vegas was vastly different in '67, golf options were quite limited and the hotel we were staying at, its golf course was hosting the Tournament of Champions that week, so it was not available......
Anyway, my dad was a huge Cardinals fan and I a Red Sox fan.....It was early April and baseball "odds" were out....for winning the National League, the Cards were 20-1 shots.....the Red Sox were 100-1 shots.....Dad put $10 on each (probably from his KENO winnings!) That year, the Cards pretty much ran away with their League and the Sox, for reasons not understood to this day, were in contention for the American League.
Dad was cleaning out his wallet early in Sept., and he ran across the two betting chits.....I asked him what he was to do? He told me he would mail in the receipts and the Stardust would send him a check! Sweet deal.
Dad became a huge Red Sox fan that September...and they won the pennant on the last day of the season.....and he got his $1200! That money more than paid for my out of state tuition as a freshman in Las Cruces! (Remember.....1967....things were cheaper then! Even education....)

Only good ones I got are when I won $180 at the Hard Rock in Sioux City on my birthday several years ago, and then won over $600 on random CBB picks on my BetMGM app 2 seasons ago.

For a brief period I was over $1,000 but that has since dwindled away mainly because I like to pair favorites playing big to massive underdogs together and they have this nasty habit of only losing around the times I bet on them.............

Say the Yankees win 3 in a row, and they're playing a team like 25 games below .500 pitching a guy that hasn't won a game yet, so I'm like okay, I'll throw money at that.

Yankees will lose by multiple runs.

They will then proceed to win the next 8 in a row, but only after I decide to not bet on them anymore.

And this is tested, because I typically fail more often than not when hoping those good teams will "get their win back" the following game or week, depending on the sport.

God literally does not want me profiting from gambling. I can win a tiny bit every once in a while just to say hey neato, I did it.

But if I start to get too much, then the Golden State Warriors will f***ing lose 26 games in a row to a 3rd grade girls basketball team, who will then be given the NBA Finals Championship as the NBA Champions of that season just to make sure I give all that money back...................that is not an exaggeration, though I really wish it was, because again, if I didn't bet on the Warriors in any of those games, they would not only beat that 3rd grade girls basketball team 26 times in a row, but they would use those kids as step ladders to perform dunks from the FT line every time as well, and would do it with a smile on their faces.

Have a total degenerate gambling buddy, he once turned 100 bucks into 24k playing online blackjack then proceeded to blow it all despite me begging him to quit

he also hit a 20k jackpot at meadows on a 3 dollar bet , also ended up blowing it all

There was a place in CR that did parlay cards back in the day, and I mean back in the day. Anyway I went with my brother and bet a 7 team parlay which paid 100-1. Threw $5 down and hit. I went every week after that for 2 years and not once again did I ever hit on a parlay be it a 3 teamer or more.

Cool story:
Winning a spot to play the WSOP in Vegas

Not so cool story:
Playing craps for 12 hours. Started with $100 , got up to $8000, walked away with $0
The good news is you only lost $100. Had a friend take $500 up to 10k. Lost the 10k and then pulled another 2k out and lost that.

About 25 years ago I was living in Iowa City and a couple of buddies and I decided to hit up the Jamaica My Weekend reggae fest down in Rock Island. We took shrooms throughout the day and had an absolute blast. On the way home, we stopped at one of the riverboat casinos and I turned my $25 in chips into almost $500 at $5 min blackjack table. On shrooms with all the lights and sounds and winning, basically, a couple of months rent at that time was quite fun.

Back in ‘96 I was living in LA struggling to make it month to month. I’d just broken up with my girlfriend a few months before and my buddy convinced me to head to Vegas for the night just to let loose. I took $300 but only planned on betting with $100. I couldn’t afford to lose $300 but figured a fatter stack could get us comped some drinks and food. We accidentally sit down at a $100 minimum bet table and I get an 11 off the deal…my annoying buddy convinced me to double down (because “you always double down on 11”)…I landed on 17 and the dealer hit 21….we spent the rest of the night at the $2 minimum table. We ended up partying with a couple of the waitresses in a trailer and my buddy hooked up with one of them. It was a pretty miserable night.

Yes - many. I lose my ass every time. And by "my ass" I mean $25 at most. Gambling is dumb.
Gambling is dumb and I hate it.

But the Mrs (no pics) enjoys sitting at the slots for a while, so the las time we were in Vegas I decided to sit down at an electronic black jack machine. Popped in a 20 and figure I would play for a while on that.

Quickly discovered that the minimum bet was $20. (A machine with a $20 minimum?). So, feeling quite pissed off, I won the first hand and cashed in. Made $20 in about 60 seconds.

And, no, I wasn't tempted to keep playing.

My cousin and I went to Lakeside on a weekday. It was pretty dead and we were the only 2 at the roulette table. He had never played before and the dealer and I were showing him the ropes. The dealer told us to both pick a number for good luck. We chose 9. Dealer says don't bet 9 until I tell you too. A few spins later she told us to bet 9 and the numbers on each side of 9. Next spin was the number left of 9. Spin after that was number to the right of 9. 3rd spin landed on 9. Then she sped up the wheel and said she couldn't do that anymore. We made over $500 each but we each tipped her $100. It was impressive to watch. Moral to that story is if you don't trust the dealer wait until the ball is spinning before placing your bets.

Got a dumb luck story. I was at Hard Rock in Tampa and playing this slot machine and I was betting $3.78 per spin and won $2500 .The wife comes over and says you're betting $85 a spin and I said no I'm betting $3.78. She said no look and sure enough I was. So while the attendant was off getting my money I still had some spins left so I said I might as well take them and won another $1400. Winner winner chicken dinner baby! Paid for our vacay.

I love other’s casino stores because they always seem funnier and more interesting than mine. Maybe I just don’t know how to tell my stories, or they are boring indeed.
My wildest story is connected to ilman rekisteröintiä kasinot. It’s an online casino from Finland, and I played it because it didn’t require registration or personal data sharing.
So, I played slots there and didn’t even notice how I started winning one spin after another. That day I made more than $2000 in clear winnings. It was insane and helped me pay my rent a few months in advance.

We had a roulette dealer once at the Mirage openly talking about the ability to steer the ball. He didn’t realize that the pit boss had strolled over (we were the only active table in that section) and she heard enough to take him off the table and give us $150 in free play.

There’s just some things you don’t talk about in a casino. That’s one of them.

I pretty much always lose.

Not sure how anybody gets addicted to it.

I do bet about $10-$20 a week on DraftKings college and pro football just to make it interesting. Slowly that dwindles to nothing also. Teasers that seem impossible to lose until the games are played is my specialty.

I'm not much of a gambler, so the closest thing I have to a good story is the one time I went to the dog track. Last race of the night and I played the Superfecta. Had to get the first four finishers in order. A $2 ticket would win something like $14k. I made my picks (yes, I dropped a whopping $2 since I was a broke college student) and the race began. It was going well. All my dogs were at the front of the pack. As they approached the final turn, I was in great shape. They were all lined up correctly for me to take home the big payout. But as they came off the final turn, the lead dog tripped and rolled out of contention. He ended up finishing 5th, but the rest of them finished in the right order. If not for that trip, I would have won.
similar story. Boxed a super for about $36. All 4 were way out in front. Didnt matter what order they finished in. Nicely spaced. 7 dog falls for absolutely no reason. Paid $4300, and my dog had higher odds. At that time, $4300 would have changed my life.

A couple of dog track stories-
1. Visiting a friend in Omaha we went to the track in Council Bluffs. He takes off to make a bet and doesn't come back after the race. About 30 minutes later I find him, he'd made a $2 perfecta bet that paid $500. I mean the longest of longshots came in.
2. In Wloo at the dog track with my brother we both kick a buck, look at the program and then agree to make a bet on a dog to show. It's a 12 race card and we just parlayed our winnings on each race, we never lost. Now the winnings aren't much but by the time we get to the 12th race we have around $100. The 12th race is the feature "A" race and my brother who can read and divine a program tells me a certian dog is going to win and that we are going to make a superfecta bet boxing that dog with the field. The bet cost $98. Sure enough the dog he bet won, so we "won" our bet. We went up to the window, present the ticket, and get $13 back.

My first night ever in Vegas. We were staying at a resort place just off the strip close to the old hard rock casino. Me and a buddy walked to the hard rock and screwed around for a bit losing a few bucks. We weren’t planning on going to a casino that night but we weren’t ready for sleeping yet. On the way back from the casino a guy on a bike rides up and asks if we smoke, indicating he’s talking about weed. I just blew him off by my buddy is trying to be friendly and the guy on the bike says he will sell him 2 oxi and throw in a joint for $40. My buddy didn’t have any cash left and came to me, I tried to talk him out of it but he really wanted the oxi. So I gave him $40 and he went and talked to the guy on the bike. Guy on the bike digs into his backpack and hands my buddy a tiny package and rides off. When we got back to the suite my buddy opens the package and it was just a ball of tape full of grass. I laughed at him and made fun of him for the last 15 years. He did pay me back when we hit up his bank in the morning.

Started playing at a $25.00 black jack table at the Venetian with the wife (no pics) and friend during the week while in town for a conference. We sit down about the same time as three other people we don’t know. We start playing and consistently win 6 out of every ten hands for the next three to four hours. People are trying to get our seats but no one is leaving our table. I was up $2500.00 or so while the wife (again, no pics) was up about $1k. We decide to call it a night around 2 am after arriving at 10 pm or so. The other people leave as well. Everyone won money so happy to do so well.

The next night, we decide to head back to that table about the same time and low and behold, those same people show up as well at the same time. We couldn’t believe it and sat down to play. We did well but not like the night before. Won about $500.00 combined between the both of us. Wife (again, no pics) decided to spend $1k on a dress and shoes from the winnings. Had a blast those days in Vegas and haven’t come close to those winnings since in 10 or more trips there.

Not a lot of money involved, but nonetheless a fond memory. My dad was a gambler, so in 1978 he took me to Las Vegas for my 21st birthday. A math guy, I had read “Beat the Dealer”, memorized 21 Basic Strategy, practiced counting cards for months, and was ready to roll.

Day one at the Sands, Dad gave me $25 to gamble with, and in those days the lowest table was $2 minimum. The $2 tables are packed, so I slowly walk down the row until I find a seat. I lay down my $2 bet, and the dealer points to the $5 minimum sign - I had reached the end of the $2 tables and didn’t notice. The others all groaned and rolled their eyes at this waste of time, and I was too embarrassed to pick up my bet, so I went ahead and put down $5; one fifth of my stake!

I immediately got a blackjack, and the other players were now really pissed. I kept playing, and won the next six hands, including one double down and another blackjack, before finally losing. After I lost a hand I picked up my chips and found my Dad. I gave him back his $25, which surprised him because not ten minutes had past. He said, “Did you decide not to play?” I showed him the rest of my chips and said, “No, I’m going to play off my winnings.”

Turns out, though, that Vegas was first starting to figure out they could thwart card counters by using multiple decks and shuffling up early. So I was a couple years late from making a killing. I can still easily play an even game of 21, but making a living at it is more work than a job. Still, it is a fond memory.

Wife went to bed early one night in Vegas and I went down to the poker tables playing no limit. Lady was at the table cleaning up. I was playing conservatively and picking my spots. Was in a hand with pocket queens and flop was AAQ. I bet, she raised. Went on like that till we hit table limits. Her 4k beat my boat. Table groaned as there was no bad-beat pay off there.

Few years later we were in Tahoe on my anniversary and my dad wanted to hit the casino. I took him over and wife gave me a dirty look. We played 4 card poker as that was his game at the time. I hit a royal flush followed by a straight flush (bet on the bonus) had a bonus bet for the dealer on the second one. Walked back into the house and just dropped hundred dollar bills on the wife. She wasn't made anymore.

Went to the Iowa Vs G Tech Orange Bowl back in 2009 with my three brothers. First night we were there we road tripped north to the nearest casino. I got seated at no limit table with a bunch of Russian dudes and proceeded to get dealt the whole deck for three or four hours straight. Not sure if they didn’t know how to play or hated money but they were good sports about it and I paid for the whole trip in that session - it was a blast.

Same group plus my dad went to the 2016 Rose Bowl and decided it would be a great idea to take my dad to Vegas the day after the bloodbath vs Stanford. He is a smart man with money and saves his gambling for the stock market. Anyway we were betting the rest of the bowl games at the Superbook at LVH and I was maybe betting $250 a game and just doing ok. He thought it was foolish but whatever. Anyway I had a feeling about Oregon smashing TCU in the Alamo bowl that bight and bet $3,500 on the Ducks. They proceed to go up 31-0 at the half and like an idiot I showed my dad the ticket and was like “that’s how you do it”!

I shit you not, both starting qbs proceed to get knocJed out of the game and it was an utter downpour in the second half and TCU comes out and scores on 9 possessions in a row and wins 47-41 in overtime. Pretty sure I remember my dad telling me he loved me a little bit less after that fiasco. Unreal bad beat.

I have a few small wins gambling.

However whenever I think of gambling I think of 1 client return I did that had 298 W2G (reportable gambling winnings), the individual had won something like 900k but lost 1.2 mil. Took me 3 days to input everything and make sure it was all entered correctly.

Was playing craps for first time and someone put a few chips on snakeyes and I rolled one’s…. but the dealer person called it just before I rolled because I had removed the dice off the table.

I don’t gamble much so that’s all I got.

I was playing a 2/5 NL game at Aria, and this cute little blond sits down to my left. She had sunglasses on and a baseball hat pulled low, but the poker room was kinda buzzing. Apparently she was just passing time until a $1,500 buy-in tournament started, based on something the dealer asked. Other people at the table were trying to chat with her, and she was polite, but was there to play and not be everyone’s friend. I thought it was kind of obnoxious, just play poker people.

She must’ve noticed my Iowa hat and said, “A friend of mine did a movie in Iowa. The Final Season.” I said, “Oh cool, Norway definitely ended our season a few times”. A few hands later she got up and wished everyone luck.

Guy to my right was like, “You know who that is, right?” I shook my head and said, “No, no idea.” Turns out it was Kate Hudson. So that was neat.

Sunglasses eh?

She looks good in sunglasses!

In college we would frequent Mesquaki with $20 and play blackjack before going out for the night. 90% of the time I walked out with 3 or 4 times my money.
When you are a poor college student it's pretty easy to get out when you are ahead. After college I get up 3 or 4 times what I started with, I stay and lose it.

It’s not one of my stories but it’s something I always think about.

If I had the money back from every tip I gave a dealer I’d probably have $50,000 in front of me.

I'm a CPA - had one of those clients that was both stupid and arrogant - but they were rich.

They would go to Vegas a few times a year and gambled enough that the trips were comped. They bragged that they ALWAYS made money on their trips. At the end of the year they would dutifully provide me their 1099's for their winnings, which were substantial.

But, once she gave me the report from the casino that showed they actually put more money in than they won. I told her we could deduct those losses to the extent of the winnings.

She insisted that report was way off and that they would certainly go to jail if they claimed those losses.

So, they needlessly paid tax on 6 figures of winnings just so they could brag about how much money they made in Vegas.

Ugh, I was on the Ducks that night as well. It's crazy the stuff you remember when it comes to gambling. Such a bad beat.

A few rather good gambling experiences, actually, even if I didn't win that much. Only playing slots at the local student bar three times with my friends, and walking out with $100 total winnings, while the rest of them kept losing, is a bittersweet but pleasant memory. Betting $10 on both France and England to win the 2018 World Cup was another "slim but satisfying" win for me.

Congratulations on your big win at the slot machine! It's always exciting to hear about players hitting it big at the casino. If you're looking for more opportunities to try your luck, you might want to check out https://ufaz88.casino, an online casino that offers a wide variety of games. Just remember to always gamble responsibly and within your means, and to have fun! It's important to set limits and know when to walk away, whether you're playing at a brick-and-mortar casino or an online one.

Pocketed 1300 dollars the one time I went to Vegas playing Roulette. The best part is I did it all with someone else's money. He didn't want to deal with the crowds, so handed me the chips to play and said once he got his money back we'd split any winnings. I turned his 100 into 700 and we split 350. Another person handed me 100 and I did the same thing for them that night. The next day took my 700 and got it to 1300. I said if I got to my mortgage payment I'd quit which is why I chose to stop there.

I've never gambled again. I beat the casino and I plan on letting it stay that way. lol

I was in Vegas for a meeting many years ago (probably 25). I always liked black jack but was not very disciplined and fortunately also cheap, at that time you could still find $5 minimum tables and that is were I would play. I had a 100 dollar limit so won some, probably lost a little more. Anyway on to my story. I am walking through my casino hotel and notice a fairly large crowd, probably 25 to 35 people standing around a black jack table. I stopped and there is a guy playing black jack by himself at the table. Obviously this is not the $5 table and something has the peoples interest. I ask a dude watching what is going on, he said see this guy playing, those chips (i think they were pink) on the table are worth $1000 each. The dude literally had stacks of them. Guy I'm talking to say he's got slight less than a quarter million on the table. I watched for a while and he was just kind of up and down. I go to my room to get rid of my meeting stuff, take a shower. Come back down and there is still people watching but fewer. The guy has been losing and is down around 100 K. He has the table to himself, and another dude asks if he can have seat at the table and guy playing says sure. Well the new guy has like 25 K and proceeds to start losing pretty fast. But the original guy starts on a pretty good winning streak. The new guy loses his money and pushes his chair back, the original guy slides him like 20 K and says I'd like you to stay, I've been winning since you started. So the new guy sits back down and plays but eventually loses and leaves. this all transpires over like a 3 or 4 hour time period. During this time they change dealers like 3 or 4 times and a couple casino guys in suits come down, they are very polite but they ask the man for his glasses and he hands them to him and they look thru them etc. and also pat him down. They leave and he continues to play at the table by himself. He plays between 1 and 3 hands at a time. Finally he is playing 3 hands, the dealer is showing a 6, he has a black jack, a 20 and i think a 17, the dealer busts and he pushes back and cashes out with something like 280 K and the crowd watching all goes nuts. It was a cool thing to watch.

"Do you have a good gambling story?"
