When I bought my house, it was empty, and paid to have a “deep clean”. I expected they would take the day. They were done by noon. I wasn’t pleased, found dust easily within 5 minutes.

Our house cleaner is at our house from 8am-4pm by herself...she's pretty much part of the family now.

I just felt burned from this cleaner recommended by our realtor. It was an older lady and brought her fam, and they “upsold” me on an oven deep clean, and I’m too big of a poosay to say anything to them when I come to check it out at noon.

Since then, I mean I wfh, I’ll do a half ass job and be scolded by the other half.

I’d love a GOOD cleaner to come in and get the ish I don’t want to heft after like baseboard and the back of the toilet.

Just don’t trust the people

I've had similar experiences with services before. We're just fortunate to have Evelyn now...she's felt part of the family for almost 5 years now...she's stopped by 2x since my wife's surgery, visited my MIL in the ICU, brought us a meal, etc. She's a very sweet, trustworthy lady.

Eh. Same as people that know how to cook but go to a restaurant. Same as people that know how to mow but hire a lawn service, or a driver, or a nanny, or a dog walker, or a general contractor.
Well, 4/6 isn’t bad. Going out to eat is quite different, as it has a social/entertainment aspect to it. General contractor is also very different as it requires a lot of specialized knowledge, which is why some are better than others. But in our house, we do mow our own grass, drive our own cars, walk our own dogs, and care for our own kids. We’re not helpless like the British nobility.

We hired a college girl as nanny every Spring when I was a coach, but when I did more training and got a higher paying gig, we didn’t need her but we noticed she’d clean FOR FUN. She was so good at it that we hired her for maid service once a month. We had her at Christmas as she was staying on campus rather than going home this Christmas. She’s almost like an adopted daughter. And no, before anyone asks, not in a Woody Allen way.

When we lived in Omaha we had someone come in every other week. Not because we didn't have time but because I hate cleaning. Undecided what we will do in Colorado once the house is done. Partially because we don't know anyone and live in the middle of nowhere. Partially because it is just the 2 of us. But if we can find someone reasonable I would say once a month would be ideal just for he deep cleaning stuff that I hate. The past 3 Christmases we have hired our Omaha lady to clean for our parents once a month and they have loved it. My mom is the youngest at 77 so it is harder for them to do the deep cleaning. My father in law didn't think it would be worth it at first; by the end he was going to pay her to keep coming if we didn't renew it because it was so much nicer than he expected. Tidying things up is easy enough. But knowing that someone is going to come in and wipe down baseboards, scrub floors, make sure all of the bathrooms are disinfected is really really nice.

Yes. Every other week. Only regret is we didn’t do it sooner. They deep clean the main level and our master bath. We do the rest, including making the boys clean their own bathroom. It takes 2 of them 4-5 hours. So getting 10 hours of life back for a couple hundred bucks a pop is so very worth it.
