Primary option at RB getting 60% of the carries.

He’s just more explosive. Better ypc, TD/carry.

I have a feeling he’s going to be one of our best by the time he leaves.

I feel the same about Stanley. Obviously Fant.

Can’t wait to see this team this fall

I would say good chanceyou are right. he definitely showed flashes last year.

but what about this guy, Keyshaun Bryant? the vibe I am getting is that he is injured/not good enough, whatever.

Thank you for returning the conversation to Hawkeye Football. I've heard enough about Brock.

I think Hooker is going to be an All B1G caliber safety. Great instincts. Doesn't get sucked in. Also excited to see Golston and Beyer.

My guess is that it will boil down to who can hold onto the rock (an issue that IKM seemed to have last season) ... AND who had the HOT HAND.

I'd surmise that Toren, Ivory, and Mekhi will all likely be in the picture to get carries. It will all boil down to how consistent they are in all phases of the game (running, receiving, and protecting the QB by blocking).

As others have pointed out, the leadership that Toren has exhibited would suggest that Toren is currently in the lead. However, there ought to be plenty of carries to distribute ... and the hot hand will likely get the largest number of carries.

I think toren young will get most of the carries unless injured. The guy is tuff to bring down. And has underated speed. Iowa offensive system works better with a one cut back like marcus coker was. Just move the chains you only need ten yards unless you get a penalty.

I think Brian and Kirk might disagree. Seems to me that they have been favoring Toren Young over IKM.
I think we'll see a scenario very similar to Wadley/Daniels. Pretty even number of carries, with Young doing the bulk of the dirty work. They'll try to find ways to get IKM the ball in space more, and as a slot or out of the backfield screens.

I don’t dispute that Young will probably start each game. He’s the axe that BF will utilize to weaken the will of the defense. But 3rd down, uptempo and the second half and money downs will be IKM’s. Plus he’s the better receiver.

He had TWENTY carries lol.
Bit of a small sample size, don't you think?
Also the only games he had a positive yardage were vs N TX, IL and Ne.
I'm interested to see how they both do and liked what I saw last year. But a bit early to talk about their "stats"......

Totem young in mop up minutes vs Ohio state and Wisconsin looked solid, he is going to be a spitting image of leshun Daniels.

I have a hunch he's going to be better than LSD. Seems like he hits the hole hard and fast. And hopefully more durable earlier in his career than LeShun.

I do NOT want one single back this year. I want two and hopefully 3 to 4 interchangeable game flow backs where each are capable of both running the ball and catching it. But at the very least two contrasting style backs that are more versatile than the Daniels/Wadley combo of 2016.

One pounder (Young) with good hands, one slash and dasher that is comfortable as a 3 down back (IKM) yet can go between the tackles if need be, and a sub for each (?).

I want versatility above all with this offense this year. It can pound it if need be. It can matriculate short passing if need be. It can go bombs out if need be. It can play action the hell out of everybody if need be. I want the opponent's defense to have no friggin' clue what's coming no matter who is in the game at any point.

I believe RB coach said last Spring that Young was best receiver. IKM will get plenty of chances but Young will be one getting 60% of carries

The back that can Stanley upright will likely get the nod. Both can carry it and if they can maintain possession equally the one who can pick up a blitz is probably the guy.

I definitely see T. Young being the starter and main guy. He is a guy who hits the whole hard and needs to have a little more patience to pick the right one. He will hold up to the banging in the trenches. I think hes is a little quicker than people think, IKM will get numerous carries. I'm in agreement with the idea that its 60-40 in favor of Young. IKM needs some ball security work. I'm pumped about these 2 and the impact they will have. I sho hope Mekhi Sargent catches on real quick. He is an exciting 3rd option unless he's really turning heads and works his way into the top 2. Sargent is a load.

I picture the two backs having similar success this season but doing it in different ways. IKM seems to hit an open hole and get up field quickly. I think he will surprise linebackers and safeties with how quickly he gets up field.

Young seems to be in the mold of greene or Daniels. Wait more for a hole to hit and then become very difficult to bring down until he gets through to the linebackers and safeties.

In very excited about both these young guys and hopefully we get another solid running back through the year.

Yes, definitely disagree.. see my post that IKM will be the GOAT.. toting the pigskin for many many touchdowns.. even if I am dead wrong I will be happy because that means Sargent/Young will be crushing the pigskin for Hawkeye touchdowns

If Toren Young is what I think he is - and I think for the record he's a lot like Greene/Daniels/Coker but can catch better than all of them - then this Iowa offense will surprise some people.

Anyway, my answer is that I will disagree and suggest Young is the primary back.

Sargent is interesting. Size, good speed and quickness plus he can catch. Will be fun to see who emerges.

Obviously limited sample size but both of these guys looked good last year. They each got some carries in mop-up duty vs OSU with good results... and Nebraska... with good results (although they had clearly thrown in the towel at that point). What I forgot was that they closed the game out vs N Texas after Butler went out with an arm injury and Wadley was out with an "ankle" (or being punished for the celebration penalty... either way he was out). They came in and just started ramming the ball down N Texas's throat. It was vintage Iowa football after a really frustrating game for everyone thanks to some really crappy officiating.

Anyways... IKM has a natural ability to make guys miss and has a bit better vision, particularly on back cuts against the grain. He broke 2 big runs doing that last year. Young is such a punishing back, he just hits the hole. You can see that he has more patience at the end of the season vs OSU and Nebraska than when he came in vs N Texas. Lord knows we'll need both so I don't really care who gets more carries at this point because they both showed some stuff as freshman last year. The combo will be really hard on defenses if the line can get them out of the backfield.

I really like the wheel route plays where they sneak the RB out of the backfield. Don't tend to run those a lot but when they do... good things happen usually.
