Does Zaga lose before the playoffs?

Too bad there's a dearth of viable competition in the western 1/3 of the country. If the Zags got an invite to the Mountain West, it would be little more than a lateral jump. Heck, same with the PAC. The Zags would run the table in both those conferences.

They will lose in Sweet 16. Mark it down!!

I Don't think Gonzaga will lose in sweet 16. They have 4 starters shooting over 50% from the field. The only thing they have to worry about is Playing crummy competition means they won't be challenged and they eventually will have a game where they are complacent and somebody has a chance to take them out

Hopefully in a Final four matchup, Iowa gets another shot at Gonzaga. Iowa needs to get a combination out on the floor that can play better defense and still score. Jbo had a matchup problem vs 6'4" NBA talent Suggs and the other guard goes 6'5. I like Iowa's chances in a 2nd matchup, but Garza needs to get their bigs in foul trouble like he did the 1st matchup. I doubt Suggs goes off from 3pt line to same level and I doubt their other guard can get repeat of 18 rebounds and I doubt Iowa misses as many 3pt shots in a second matchup.

I have been thinking about posting what everyone's thoughts would be about wins vs losses if they played in the big 10. I believe their won loss record would look alot different

Especially this season, I highly doubt they get through without at least 2 losses. GU is a fantastic team and has a ton of talent so not trying to disparage them, but--this year especially--you can't take a night off in the B1G or you have the chance to get bit. Every team has an off night shooting or important player(s) get in foul trouble or what-have-you. Their schedule would determine a ton, but going to MSU, Wisc., Mich., IC., Purdue, Minny....you can't tell me at least one of those isn't a loss. It's not like a road game at Surf City College.

Well the projected Big Ten winner in Kenpom shows 5-6 losses. I agree they would lose a couple games. Still would win the conference easily. Nobody in the country played their non con schedule. Iowa, Auburn, W Virginia with their best player, UVA and KS plus they were going to play Baylor but they got COVID. That conference has also improved a lot. Obviously not the B1G but it has definitely improved.

Agree. Yes they would have a couple losses in the B1G (who wouldn't?) but people complaining about their conference schedule must not have paid any attention to how much they dominated their non-conference against good teams. This Gonzaga team is as good of a college team as there has been in years.

The only team Ive seen so far that can play with Gonzaga to date is Michigan. They are a copy of them

“A lot different”? Doubtful. Let’s face it, if this Gonzaga team was in the B1g they would be the heavy favorite to win the league. I do feel, however, that their league does them very little good as the season rolls along except setting them up for a 1 seed.

They play four top twenty teams early in the year and beat them which proves they are a great team. Then they cruise for the next 15-20 games in their conference. They beat us. They are a great team. Let's not pretend though that they have the same grind as everyone else because they don't. They will not win the national championship this year

Correct on all points.

They'd probably have a couple losses in the B1G grind. But still win the conference and get a #1 seed. So the end result is similar.

They might be a little healthier at tournament time with their weak conference.... not getting physically beat on every night in the B1G.

No chance.

The only two teams who look possible of contending with them are not very good.

San Fransisco (who has already lost by 23 to Gonzaga) beat Virgina and played close with Cal (not great) and lost by 10 to Oregon. Everyone else they beat wasn't good.

St. Mary's is not the normal St. Mary's. They have lost to Memphis (by 17) amd SDSU (by 25). Those were the only 2 "big" teams they have playes. They beat UNI (who is way down) by 2.

Edit- I guess never say never in college basketball.

Unlikely. One thing I like about the Gonzaga team is that (from what I have seen) is that their players do not disappear in games.

I have a lot of respect for Gonzaga, but wouldn't mind playing them again. We shot horribly in that game (4-22 from three and 54% FTs). Bohannon had 2 pts and Murray barely played. I haven't seen them since that game, no real reason to watch them blow out WCC opponents, but we've definitely improved and evolved.
And, I doubt, even as mediocre as the PAC 12 is, that Gonzaga would run the table in that conference.

Don’t disagree about the Murray part. Think you also need to take into consideration that the Zags might have the most athletic backcourt in the country. There’s a reason Bohannon only scored 2 pts. They also spread you out at every position on the floor. We did not play badly against them.
