Dont feel good about tonight. Hope I am wrong

Very low expectations for tonight. Will be most interested in seeing if Garza is as effective drawing fouls as he is at home.

Well. If they play like they did on the last meeting they will be fine. If they play like they did against Wisconsin, they will get slaughtered.

If we have more points at the end of regulation, we will win the game. If we win the game, we will be ranked higher going into the Illini game. And Hawkeye fans alike will find a rare smile and will only bitch about the officials who tried to screw us on the road.

Meh, as long as we don't carry over our poor shooting from the Wisconsin game, we should be fine.

I kinda liken this to the Penn State game. We may very well lose, because Maryland revenge hype............but as long as we battle from start to finish, I think that will give us something positive to take away, much like with the PSU game.

Really has more to do with how Maryland plays. I have never seen Maryland so awful as they were in the first game against Iowa. Not like I watch every one of their games, but they were just putrid. Turnovers with zero pressure from Iowa. Couldn't shoot. Ayala, who is a great FT shooter, goes 3-7 from the line. Barring Maryland doing that again, way for Iowa to win is to have it close in the second half and make some shots.

If we don't have key players sitting on the bench in foul trouble, especially Luka, Hawks can stay in this game. With almost every B1G game that I have watched this year, the foul discrepancy has been ridiculous. GO HAWKS!

This is a game Maryland needs pretty bad. When looking down the road, getting swept by Iowa could be the difference of which team gets a top 4 bye in the Big Ten tournament.

Feels like we're way overdue for a hot shooting night and that might let us grab a surprise win.

Either way, this feels like house money. Expected to lose and no shame if we do, but a win would massively improve the resume.
Good luck with the Under Armor balls...

1. If the game goes to OT then Iowa will lose?
2. New rankings don’t come out until Monday.

I worry about every game, but I also do not have a positive vibe for tonight. The good news is I have watched all the BIG teams and Maryland is a bit soft and turns the ball over.

Sounds obvious but if Hawks can shoot well from 3 and minimize Maryland runs, they win. Always have to play tough D, that's totally in the Hawks control.

Like others have said, Joe T improved play has made this team even tougher. If Hawks shoot even average from 3 they win.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's a freeroll/win-win. We've had games like this before, maybe not necessarily against Maryland (maybe though, I just can't recall) but going into Sparty, or Columbus, or Purdue where we end up getting blown away. Losing big, even in a tough road game is a bad look. Not only purely from a visuals perspective, that but it hurts the efficiency numbers, which are influential in seeding now under NET. 1-4 on the road, with the win over NW leaves us looking more like a Tier 2 Big Ten team, which isn't the end of the world, but would put us pretty squarely on a path to another middling NCAA seed and Thursday BTT game.

See guys, if the Hawks score more points than Maryland, then the Hawks will get a big road win and Maryland will have failed to protect its home court. You can't lose games at home if you expect to contend for a top four seed in the Big Ten conference tournament.

It’s simple if Joe T plays over 20 minutes Iowa wins. If he gets rattled and Fran has to sit him it will be tough. But still winnable. I have seen enough to know Joe W, Garza and CJ will show up.

Yes and no on Joe T. If Cincy Joe T shows up on the road that is a turnover per touch and he HAS to sit, Joe T vs Wiscy I like where you're going....

I am usually uptight going into games....but don't feel any anxiety here. I think that is because I don't expect a win, but KNOW that the Hawks can win this one. If they do, it would be a GREAT win for the standings and put/keep us near the front of the pack. If we don't win it's not the end of the world.

I am much more concerned/tensed up/intense about the Illinois game. That is a home game and it's Illinois...and an Illinois team tied for the lead in the league. Want and need to win that one in the worst way.

As others have said, the turtles will have revenge on their minds. So I anticipate that they will come out all fired up and aggressive at the start. If Iowa can withstand that, and be relatively close at the 8 minute mark in the first half, then maybe the turtles start to question themselves. Maybe they start to tighten up. One can only hope.

OTOH, my fear is that this is the game where Luka gets 2 early fouls and it goes down hill fast.

I'm cautiously optimistic for this one. Maryland didn't play their best game against Iowa but other than Joe Wieskamp, neither did Iowa.

Iowa had more fouls (15) than Maryland (14) despite the game being in Iowa City.

Jalen Smith had 0 fouls and despite being outperformed by Garza (Garza 21 points, 13 rebounds to Smith's 13 points and 5 rebounds), Smith scored his 13 on 7 FGs (and 3 of 4 at the line), whereas Garza took 21 shots (and was 4 of 6 at the line).

Joe Toussaint had 5 TOs but has been playing better as of late.

CJ Fredrick didn't play against Maryland.

If Garza is more efficient down low, Toussaint does a better job taking care of the ball (he's been much better), and Wieskamp and/or Fredrick get hot from 3, we can pull out a win tonight.

Figure a 10 point swing for home court advantage and Maryland playing 10 points better than last game and we only have to play a few points better than last time. I think the addition of CJ, more efficient play from Garza, and less TOs from Toussaint should be able to make up the difference, even if Wieskamp doesn't have another monster game.

It goes without saying that either Wieskamp or CJ likely has to be hot from 3 in order to make Maryland pay for doubling Garza otherwise, similar to at Nebraska, it will be a long night.

Northwestern uses Under Armour balls I believe, and CJ went 3 for 7 (first game back from injury) from 3. In fact, other than Wieskamp (who went 0 for 3 from 3), the rest of the team shot fine. Garza and McCaffery were both 2 for 3 from deep, Kriener was 1 for 1, and Evelyn was 2 for 4. Iowa shot 47.3% from the field, 45.5% from 3, and 86.7% from the line as a team at Northwestern. Similar shooting percentages in Maryland would be fantastic (albeit, unexpected due to Maryland's much better defense).

I'm not throwing in the towel on this one yet.

Meh, we've already got road wins @ Syracuse and @ ISU. Plus neutral wins vs Texas Tech and Cincy. We've proven we can play away from home.

For sure, and I'm not saying we're a mediocre team at all, and those wins are good wins that will more than likely keep us a very safe distance from the bubble, barring a total disaster/injuries. But those two true road wins are over teams currently stand just outside the top 50, which make them good wins...but also wins that most every other tournament quality team will have...hardly signature road wins. The good news is we have LOTS of opportunities.

Winning or losing this game depends entirely on the referee's.;)

False! We'll be ranked the same as the new polls don't come out till after the Illinois game ;)

Iowa has had 4 big10 road games.

2 games we’ve shot over 40% from 3.
2 games we’ve shot 20% or less from 3.

I feel like the over 40% would be more beneficial tonight. :p

That was my point. Joe sat most the Cincy game. He was unusable. He doesn’t have to be great tonight. But if he’s usable I feel good.

Unfortunately this was the difference in the game. Luka with foul trouble....
