Oh, trust me, I LOVE the idea of a viable 3rd/4th/5th party. But when the trot out a dude running for POTUS, but have no one in office at the state/federal level or even anyone running for any of those, it's a lost cause.
Being a protest candidate doesn't help anyone.
Trump knows the only way he can win is if he can divide the vote enough to siphon off enough votes to win the states he needs to win. So, all of these "3rd party candidates" are nothing more than places for anti-Trump people to put their votes other than voting for Biden. The thing is, if you vote for one of these people then you are contributing to the one factor that you seem to be voting on, and that is keeping Trump out of office. A vote for anyone other than Biden is a vote for Trump. Trump's White Christian Nationalist Party will not be voting for anyone other than Trump. Those good Christians will vote for a convicted felon for President if they have to.
This might not be just a Trump strategy, btw. This could be something conservatives as a whole have decided so we might see these vote siphons in every election for the forseeable future. Certainly as long as Republicans continue to push policies that the vast majority of Americans actually hate and as long as they refuse to change their positions on these policies.

Cornell West is potentially a more serious candidate than Ralph Nader was in 2000 when he got 2.7% of the popular vote. He will never win but he could peel of some of the African American vote and some of Bernie’s supporters who still feel betrayed by the Dem primary process.
Cornell West is a sticky problem for D's.
Could syphon off a couple percentage pts of votes in "purple" states. Attack him and you might alienate those "democracy now" type folks you don't want to lose. Tricky situation....

West’s biggest obstacle is lack of campaign money but he will be a factor in 2024 … easily peeling away 2% of the popular vote running 3rd Party. Voters are desperate for alternatives.
