Dubuque private school raises tuition by 58% after voucher expansion

So, nothing changes, except private schools get more money. Poor kids still can't afford to go.
This “voucher” thing was never about allowing poor kids to go to private schools. This argument is and always has been a scam. The purpose of “vouchers” has always been about weakening and destroying (eventually) public school education in America. Make no mistake about this.

Remember when school districts told the state they couldnt tell them what to do? I guess those school districts are finding out.
Revenge politics using school kids?

What is the purpose of this “legislation”? Why did the legislature feel the need to codify this on a state level? Why are these school districts all in Polk (Democrat leaning) County? Coincidence?? Meddling?? Outright interference by the state (Republican dominated)?

Nope. Schools and teachers are not entities unto themselves and they have become incredibly confused on that issue. They are not the boss. Parents matter more than teachers and school administrators. If schools want to behave in the manner they have been things like this happen and will continue to happen until the ship is righted. Funding following the child is a decent response. The reaction of schools and teachers to this decision is simply them telling on themselves even more. A flat refusal to adjust their model and listen to those that they are supposed to be serving.

In the state of Iowa there are 20 Lutheran elementary schools.
The total number of students in those 20 schools is 2,243.
These schools are operated by congregations in the Lutheran
Church-Missouri Synod. All of these schools have existed
without state aid. The voucher system is not and was never
necessary for these schools to survive. They are all accredited
schools by the state of Iowa.

Hawk… it’s “truancy” it is a matter between school district and family…there are already “laws on the books” regarding truancy, let the school, the parents and the local police deal with it…it us NOT a “state issue” especially when all the cases involved are in one county! It’s nothing more than Reynold’s meddling in the affairs of a county that will never vote for her.

According to the Warren County Attorney Doug Eichholz, 12 families in Warren County are facing prosecution, with a majority of the cases inside the Indianola and Carlisle School Districts.

Look at all the poors crying because they are unhappy with their lives. If you can't afford private schools then be happy with your second rate education.

He's had comically bad takes on education for years now. Instead of discourse, he'll just give you a laugh react.

He actually thought, before the voucher scam passed, that public schools were receiving funding for resident students in their district who attended private schools. He's clueless.
I'm well aware. It is very concerning and explains a lot how we got here locally and nationally. People haven't a clue.

Have a kid in private school and another in public school. Tuition is based on income approach so more you make the more you pay. Imagine this occurs in most private schools. Also have donors donate for tuition for those less fortunate. Private school options for more kids is a good thing. Get Christ back in their life and let them choose where they want to attend school that best fits them. Must be a bunch of public teachers on this platform against school choice.

Income based tuition? Is it a Marxist school?

School choice has always existed. Tax payers should not be funding a religious education of any kind.

Also, we need fewer people with Christianity in their life, and judging by what I've read that is already happening.

Should be asking why demand sky rocketed to get out of public school. Let's talk about the elephant in the room.
Because there are class disruptors in classrooms that have no business being in the class that “have to be”. They make learning and teaching extremely difficult.

Teaching multiple languages also slows learning down.

Common sense took a shit in public education a long time ago.

I also think some property tax money should be shared among all schools. Seems odd how some schools got nothing and others deluxe everything.

My daughter with low level autism gets left out though. Getting Christ back in our life’s is all about exclusion at least it appears to be set up that way

School choice is a basic right, the State appropriates X amount each year for a child's education, where that money goes to should be the parents' choice. If a parent believes their child is better educated at a non-public school, then the X amount the State appropriated for the child's education should follow them.

If a private school raises it's tuition by 58% then a couple of things come to mind,
1. They have been educating students for far less money than public school counterparts and in almost 100% of the cases they have provided a much better education.

2. The cost of running a school has drastically increased since the pandemic. Wages, benefits, etc certainly have increased during the Biden era.

This leads me to ask what the uproar is about? If private school A is receiving the same amount of money the State appropriated per student that public school B is receiving per student, why are certain people having a spaz attack over it.

Do private schools have to educate every kid no matter the cost? Do private schools have to complete and make publicly available an audit each fiscal year? Are the dollars they receive restricted for certain purposes? Are their public elections for board members of private schools? Are private schools required to timely submit a Certified Annual Report? Do all of their teachers and administrators have to be certified? Do private schools have to follow offer and teach like public schools?

The answer to all of these questions, of course, is no. Until they are all yes, then private schools don't deserve one cent of public money.

Teaching multiple languages also slows learning down.

Both are of the left's own making.

The left's push for equal disciplinary outcomes has consequences.

The left encouraging mass migration has consequences.

Not owning either has consequences.

Any school that was not charging the full education voucher in tuition was leaving money on the table that could, and should be used for critical school improvements.
I was waiting for your comically bad take on this subject again.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you weren't around when the school voucher program was being debated here.

Objection #1 to the program wasn't school choice - hint; it's always been there, but rather, the fact that private schools are now accepting public funding via the vouchers and there's zero oversight. No rules, no controls. Private schools still have the option to turn away anyone they don't want for example.

Objection #2 - several posters pointed out immediately that we'd see tuition increases like this in short order.
