Dumb things said to you about Iowa football

Who do you think you are?

Basically the same thing everyone is saying above.

I will add this one in from an Ohio State buddy.: The only reasons Iowa went 12-0 is because they play in the West. If they would of played in the East they would of been 6-6" I just said okay and moved on.

6-6???? Yep, exactly. Move on. No use arguing with a mental midget.

Nice!!

Considering Iowa went 4-0 in non conference, 2-0 against the East, and beat every West team, of which two would have been on their schedule is they played in East, 6-6 seems unlikely.

You pick:
A bunch of MAC talent.
Oh great another walkon starter.
Do Iowa coaches ever recruit?

18 year old Badger fan said to me: "Yeah, Iowa has never really had any success against Wisconsin."

I had to educate him that when I was 18, Wisconsin had beat Iowa exactly ONCE in my entire lifetime. He was truly surprised.

Nebraska will come into the Big Ten and dominate! Oh wait, what was the question again?
When Nebby joined the BIG I had an Iowa State fan tell me that Nebby would dominate the BIG and go undefeated the first year. He didn't have a lot to say after Wisky smacked them down in their very first BIG game. A Nebby fan told me just the other day that he is on board with their new coach and that they would win the west this year. I told him if CJ is healthy all year I don't think much of his prediction. After last year's game this same fan was wearing a Hawkeye tie as a result of losing his bet.

Swear 2 God I was at the kids camp on Thursday & there were highlights playing on a screen in the fb complex, a guy behind me said " was that betts on that run", I said no it was banks! He says " oh, banks wasn't that good, he went down too easy." I looked back at him with a pissy look & said " seriously?, He had world class speed, u don't know anything about football."

Banks was really good, but the guy at least had something correct. Tavian did go down pretty easy. Still, saying he wasn't that good was pretty stupid.

Not necessarily dumb: Look at the averages:

2000: 3-9
2001: 7-5
2002: 11-2
2003: 10-3
2004: 11-2

2005: 7-5
2006: 6-6
2007: 6-7
2008: 9-4
2009: 11-2
2010: 8-5
2011: 7-6
2012: 4-8
2013: 8-5
2014: 7-6
2015: 12-2

Maybe Iowa can muster a mini run like 2002-2004, but trends would say 8-5 or 7-5 based on historic numbers... Just sayin.

So then the debate comes down to agreeing on what 'struggling' might mean...

There are teams within this state that would do back flips and cartwheels all day and night long if they were to win seven games. They are even willing (and contractually obligated) to paying their brand new head coach if he wins less that that benchmark. Does that meant that they would be celebrating a team that is struggling?

After 2000, I said, "we are never going to be any good at football again". After 2004 and 2009, I said, "we are going to be a Top 25 team for a long time".

I think you really need to go back and read what the guy said to him. He said is IOWA going to STRUGGLE AGAIN THIS YEAR.

Do you call going 12-0 struggling?

Maybe you should go back and read the post. 12-0 is not struggling, 8-5 and below to me is. You lose 5 games that is a struggle.

Agreed @5and5 To me if you lose 5 games in a season that is a struggle. The other team in Iowa is a joke and always has been anyways. I wouldn't use them as a bench mark. Being Iowa is a school with tradition and some history of winning I would think you would agree that 5 losses in a season would be deemed as struggling.

No, I would not necessarily agree that losing five games means a team is struggling. Achieving a 7 win/ 5 loss record in 2001 following the 1 win season in 1999 and the 3 win year in 2000 was far from struggling. History shows that it was just the opposite, in fact, ushering in the seasons of 2002, 2003 and 2004.

Depends. If you played a schedule like the schedule Iowa has played the past couple seasons, then yes, 5 losses would probably be deemed as struggling. If you are say Arkansas, and you play Texas A&M at home and go on the road at Tennessee, Alabama, Ole Miss, and LSU, then perhaps not.

"Is Iowa going to struggle again this year?"

Okay I went back and re-read it. I re-read it several times just to make sure I didn't miss something. So I quoted it. if you can explain to me how the above post suggest anything at all about losing 5 games I will accept defeat. It's suggesting that Iowa struggled last year which they didn't.

Yeah I tend to agree with that. Losing 5 games just feels awful no matter what to me, but I get the logic.
