This may interest Hawkeye fans, likely to meet at the Dvorak Invitational on Friday, final at 152 lbs. will be #2 seed Nelson Brands (Iowa City West) vs #1 seed Austin O’Conner (Saint Rita). Opinion, I’ve seen Brands wrestle on several occasions and no question he is a real talent, very tough on the mat. However O’Conner simply has too much offense for him. O’Conner is very slick and an absolute brute. Looks to be a great matchup, also you may be able to watch through trackwrestling, link below.

I'd have to disagree with the first poster. O'Conner is tougher than snot but very hard to watch. His offense is very limited and doesn't take many risks. Most of his takedowns are counters or go behinds. I'd be shocked if Nelson scores anything but an escape.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Nelson win this match. He has jumped levels every year, very similar to what Joe Smith did in high school but even more extreme I think.

Do you think coach Chauncey is trying to keep Austin motivated? (This is off trackwrestling in the auto seed section)

1. Austin O`Connor Chicago (ST. RITA) 12 13-0

Brands rolls in the semis with tech. Will meet O'Connor in finals.

Nelson has a great motor and is relentless from the neutral position. If/when he takes the time to develop turning rides to the point that he has developed offense from the feet, look out, baby!

As anticipated, Brands vs O’Conner in the finals at 152 lbs. Brands TF’ed his way to finals, O’Conner fall to all opponents. Actually the competition at this weight is comparatively weak, appears that many opponents moved up or down. Both kids look good, finals should be exciting. Hats-off to track for the video coverage, and some of the commentators/analyst are fun.

The difference between dominating like Tom and Terry not doing so is the willingness to not worry about what if they get tired and just letting it fly. On occasion they got burned from being too aggressive but they did not let it deter them. Gilman wrestled like that in HS and does so the most now on the team. Nelson is letting it fly and will continue to improve. He has already improved a ton in 3 years.

This. Our guys seem scared to get scored on. If you wrestle at a high pace, forces your opponent to do it and they make mistakes.
