Spot on analysis to the current state of things and why

CNN showed a different map of the US late in the evening on election night - this map showed wages in regards to inflation. And it was broken down into different shades per county where inflation outpaced wage increases. John King said that in the entire United States - only 5 counties, in the ENTIRE US - 5 counties were wage increases outpaced inflation. 5!!!!!

"It's the economy, stupid" is spot on.
I think what's frustrating to someone like me for example, is solely blaming Biden for inflation is incorrect and a very simplistic view. Look at the entire world inflation since Covid. Look at the capital infusions Trump pushed through (sent to each American with a Trump signed letter!). And of course, inflation lags policies/black swan events so most of that didn't show up until Biden took over. Whoever was President in '21 to present was going to have high inflation.

I also fully acknowledge that Biden contributed to inflation, but the spending and ancillary policies were necessary for the soft-landing post-Covid (I'd argue Trump's contributions to inflation and spending were necessary at the time as well). You also have significant rate increases that had to occur to address this, which also pisses people off. So, inflation has been high post-Covid, but it was going to be high no matter the President.

And now it's just about back to acceptable/typical levels, due to a lot of hard work and time elapsing since the main Covid impacts, but that was too late for a tik-tok electorate who just remembers "what was inflation like in 2023" without further nuance.

This is good. This is the best post-election analysis I’ve read, from Professor Christopher Robichaud, Senior Lecturer in Ethics and Public Policy, Harvard:
“I'll say this, and then I likely won't be saying much more on here for quite some time, to the relief of some, I'm sure. But my farewell warning is this.
Everyone in the days and weeks ahead will use this loss as an opportunity to seek validation for their own hobby horse complaint. Harris lost because she campaigned with Liz Cheney. Harris lost because she didn't embrace Gaza. Harris lost because she didn't choose Shapiro. Harris lost because she wasn't progressive enough (possibly my favorite one).
Take a good hard look at the map, my friends. Trump has won the popular vote. Trump ran the table. Explaining that with your hobby horse issue isn't going to cut it, tempting and consoling as it may be. The problem isn't the electoral college. The problem isn't that we didn't have a full primary. The problem isn't Harris. The problem isn't that Dems didn't have the right message. The problem isn't even inflation or the border.
The problem is so much worse than any of those things. Those are all technical problems, with straightforward expertise fixes. If only it were so! No, our problem is not technical. It's very much adaptive. A party that embraced the Big Lie, supported an insurrection, and has been selling conspiracy-addled madness for years was widely and enthusiastically embraced. Voter turnout was profound! People didn't sit this out.
Simply put, the problem--as some of you have rightly posted--is cultural. America, culturally, has completely abandoned a politics of decency and respect and has embraced instead a politics of resentment, revenge, false nostalgia, and bullying. And if you look at the demographics, you also won't be able to comfort yourself that it's just a white thing, or a working class thing, or an education thing. It's multi-class, multi-gender, multi-educational and multi-racial. That's what winning the popular vote means. That's what running the table amounts to.
A culture that has descended to this level of debasement is not easily fixed. In fact it may not ever be fixed. The timeline for changing something like this is decades--at best--not two-to-four year election cycles. You can extend that in this case, because with the GOP likely controlling all branches of federal government and the courts, they will ensure that mechanisms are in place to keep them in power long after their popularity has waned. You can count on that.
The GOP evolved into a party of rage, lies, and revenge--and it correctly diagnosed that there was and is a large appetite for that. That's what the country wants. At least, enough of the country wants it to ensure broad appeal and widespread electoral success. The old GOP will never return, and the Dems have nothing to say to American culture at the moment. Nothing. They've been speaking to a country that's gone, like dust in the wind.
And that's my final thought, which my posts last night alluded to. The America I knew and loved is gone. This new America--nah, I won't even bother. I will say that cultural change is less likely to occur in politics, or in the academy. You're not going to get people to see how vulgar they've become through a clever argument or a nice campaign speech, that's for sure.
This would be time for the arts, broadly understood, to step in. The arts can change hearts and minds. Too bad the arts have been systematically dismantled in education in this country, and on the other end, the tech industry's assault on the arts through AI is sure to hollow out any good-faith efforts that might emerge.
And for the rest of the world, America's rightward lurch is, I'm afraid, bad news for you too. I know you know this. Because it's not isolated, is it? It's just at the moment the most prominent example of a burgeoning trend. And this will embolden others in other countries, to be sure. We need not speculate what happens when countries become mired in lies, embrace resentment, and savor bullying. We know exactly what happens. Bloody conflict and global destabilization.
The first quarter of the 21st century will therefore in hindsight be viewed as the seed-planting stage for the absolute shit show that's about to unfold globally over the next two and a half decades. Count on it.
Adopt whatever coping and endurance strategies you have available. You're going to need it.
I think that's all I've left to say.”
This is a brilliant assessment and our only suggestion is to step up the the claims the R party are (pick your favorite word(s) that end in “ist”, “phobe”, etc) or any other derogatory words you can muster up. Use them in every conversation you can.

Signed,
RNC

I guess you're right in the sense that they brought hate and shrieking to a political debate and got stomped as a result.

The hate that has come from the trump campaign along with the hate from the trump voters is the gun. What really surprises me is, all you trump supporters are all in on hate but yet you won't embrace who you are. It worked for trump, it worked for you, embrace it, it's who you are.

It didn't stop them from claiming the "jobs created" numbers and all of the positives that naturally occurred after COVID which would have happened regardless of who was in office.

I'm looking forward to MAGA somehow blaming Biden when inflation starts raging again due to these tariffs.
Yeah because the Biden admin never once blamed Trump for the economy, while also claiming it was great... and Obama never blamed Bush for the economy... It seems like blaming the last guy for the economy is a political passtime

Did I miss the part about what the Dems are doing wrong?

There's plenty.
Countering endless lies and disinformation is very challenging and operating like the GOP is still a party committed to working for the Constitution is their biggest issues.

You're projecting again, but please keep it up. It worked so well for you in this election.

Remember when team blue claimed inflation was transitory?

You're out to lunch if you think this has anything to do with policy. The policy Biden supported, like infrastructure, is the same policy the Rs tried to take credit for. Hell, Biden even tried to pass a super conservative border bill and the Rs still said no.
the border bill being conservative is an outright lie, you fail to mention all of the other things that were stuffed into said bill!

Agree on you can't solely blame Biden for inflation. The first stimulus package was needed - I dont know if I can say the same for the 2nd and 3rd stimulus package. But agree, whoever was president in 2021 was going to have higher inflation.

What's funny to me is, the far left crazies will blame Covid for inflation instead of Biden - but won't dare blame Covid for all of the jobs lost during the Trump administration because Team Blue good, Team Red bad. So dumb.

Dems want it both ways on everything. In the long run, it would have helped Harris if the Biden regime had acknowledged Covid as the culprit of inflation not Trump, for the state of the economy and didn’t try to take all the credit for bounce back jobs and a declining inflation rate. They kept saying how great the economy was doing while people were paying double for rent, double for food, running up credit cards to pay for gas and food and electricity. They’ve been tone deaf to the voices of the people, then called half the country garbage…

I agree with everything but the "garbage" thing. The "how dare you call me garbage I'm now so insulted!" people have always supported the mean tweets guy, who has insulted most everyone on the planet. To somehow think these people are now concerned about a possible insult by the guy not even running (and his words were misinterpreted in my view, but oh well), and that pushed someone to vote in support of Trump is just asinine. I think it's pretty clear it's just another way people were able to "defend" and excuse their vote, particularly when considering who Trump is and how he talks.

As to the jobs and inflation, couldn't agree more that the Dems should have done a much better job messaging the labor market and inflation. Should have acknowledged labor stats were skewed due to Covid, but reiterated the positive progress and more work to be done.

Great summary.

Cliff’s notes: the days of America as the greatest nation on earth are officially over. It was already abundantly clear looking at quality of life, healthcare, happiness, and infrastructure but it is official now. We remain the wealthiest, for now. And this is inevitable when 10 percent of the country have most of the wealth and the bottom 50 percent of the country have but 2.5 percent of the wealth and now can be manipulated so easily to vote against their interests and root and adore the 1 percent. Let them ****ing burn then if they are too stupid to see.

This is fair, though a distinction is I wouldn't say most people were "blaming" job losses on Trump (didn't hear much talk about job losses under Trump), but instead the Biden admin was taking more credit than they should for job gains.

Not trying to be argumentative, because you seem to be trying to engage in reasonable conversation, but the Biden White House often said that Trump was the first president to lose xxxxx jobs, and have negative job growth while never acknowledging that Covid was the cause. KJP was a frequent offender.

Just look at who the Democrats continuously drag out to speak for them. Hollywood elites, star athletes like LeBron, people like Taylor Swift, Oprah, Obama. The Democrats have become the party of the wealthy. They adopted the college educated males and females during Obama's years who now have a comfortable life and are OUT OF TOUCH. Same with the media who at all cost keep your style of narrative going because they are to stupid to see the everyday folks walking away from the bullshit Do you think they give two shits about all the Trump bullshit? 150,000,000 voters and Trump won the electoral college by 242,000 votes approximately. The democrats always complain republicans win electoral college and not the popular vote. It was damn close to being the opposite, PROVING the system works.

75% of 1 of the largest border counties voted Trump. That percentage was all Latinos. Stop and think how the constant berating of Trump and sexism, racism, being a predator, convicted felon had zero effect on those Latinos. Now you want to continue to say how stupid Trumps voting block is. The Democrats are still blaming Latino men and uneducated white women as why Kamela lost. Democrats are the ones saying RACE and GENDER are what defines political races. The largest voting block for Democrats is young, unmarried women. Only 31% of people in exit polls identified Democrat. IDENTITY politics is OWNED by Democrats. How is that working out?

The republicans are no longer a gentleman's back room, whiskey snifter, cigar smoking party. The party is bringing young dynamic youth to the table. You do you, but dont be delusional that your democrat party is the moral high ground smarter than thou party as you would be sadly mistaken.

No that's also a fair point. I was simply referencing the election talking points more than anything by the Harris team. Maybe I missed it as a major talking point, but I felt like job growth under Biden was emphasized significantly more than emphasizing job losses under Trump. I think they should have been more "honest" with those job growth numbers, because voters clearly weren't buying it.

They were tough to buy from the same people that said there wasn’t inflation (remember the 4th of July barbecue report that said food was less than year in 2023 than 2022 as an example) and then admitted inflation was real but it was transitory… I get it they’re politicians, and they’re trying to keep a positive outlook on the current state of things. But there was a lot of “I am not here” moments for the last 4 years, and very little fact checking.

Add that to "Biden is fine mentally" when he was clearly declining, and combine it with a large group of people who already distrusted the admin and/or the media, and it's a bad combination.

Biden screwed up that state of the Union address big-time... Dems thought it was wonderful

The Dems are going to have to move back to the middle and start addressing the bulk of Americans' concerns, it's that simple. That means no more coddling of the special interest groups that aren't going to vote anyways.

I hope the Dems believe this tripe. That way they will keep misunderstanding the American Electorate and projecting their own irrational hate on others.

The Dems lost because they were tone deaf on the issues that matter to most Americans. Economy and Security, obeying the law, having a border, and being honest. And ending the woke BS that ruins everything it touches.
