Just thought I'd share over here, not that it impacts Iowa too much, but its good to see the NCAA do something right for a change.

Simmons as well, although he might not be that far from Hall. He was beating him in the wrestle off if i recall correctly before a late takedown cost him the match
Yes. For some reason the NCAA took a year from him but now has given it back.
The clock doesn't normally start then. Not sure why it would (or did) for Hall.
Earl competed in "illegal" competitions in the eyes of the NCAA while at OTC. USA wrestling and others cleaned up some things and NCAA got one right in not holding it against Earl.
Process for extra years is badly flawed in all sports and no one is doing anything about it. We have competition committees that address issues in wrestling and basketball from a rules perspective but someone needs to take Mark Emmert to task on cleaning up other parts of NCAA.

should be a nice scenario for them if Simmons can make the weight and compete close to decent, he looked pretty good from what i saw in his redshirt at 133. also would like to see how much size Boston puts on, he was more than undersized at 141
Yeah well bumping up 16 pounds in the middle of the season will do that. He'll have to beat out Meeks for 141 so we'll see.
I think the team will have pretty comparable results to this year. There's lots of ifs

I think Downey, and the team is better off with him at 197. I don't see him AAing at 184, and the 197 field is considerably weaker.
Your probably right but that is their plan. Personally, I thought Harrington would be a 3-4x AA. The way he's looked the last year I'd be suprised if he qualified for nationals. He was a super stud coming out of HS.
i've been on the Cyclonenation board and his father thinks otherwise. i thought he was an undersized 197 at nationals when i saw him and according to his father when he was at nebraska he used to handle Dudley
I'm not doubting your projections, but if they are close to reality... why in hell did KJ throw Meeks @ 149 to make room for an undersized Boston @ 141? That's two stupid decisions! If someone says it was because of an injured Moreno, I'm calling BS.
Harrington appears to have a problem between the ears from the little I saw of him.
In the grand scheme of things... ISU will have a above average dual team, but they are definitely not threatening for top ten at Nationals.
Regarding Hall... until he learns how to ride... he's not a top four guy. ISU is only marginally better with him back.
Nardo and Dante are still suspended, but not gone. They are training with the RTC practices in Ames. Whether they get reinstated, I do not know. That was as of today
Regarding Downey's old man.. you got that right. He's got an excuse for everything that's ever gone wrong in his son's career.
I know parents tend to be a bit over the top, but one thing is for sure... he's got the cyclonefanatic posters eating from his hand and lapping up the leftovers. The fans sure seemed extra willing to dismiss Harrington before Nationals this spring. Then again... given how Weatherman and Moreno ended the season, they took anything positive they could find and ran with it.

I'd be shocked if either of these two ever wrestled another varsity match.
With the way KJ effed up DR's redshirt, if that kid stays in Ames... he deserves every bad decision he sees. These so-called great recruits that ISU has coming in will be in for some surprises once they hit campus. KJ could screw up a wet dream.
Back to the discussion of Hall... if he wants a chance to be wrestling in the semis at Nationals, he needs to start the cut to 125 right now. He's not strong enough for 133.

I know. I've been around Dante for a long time and just don't see it happening. I'd imagine a transfer.
Yes, I know that an athlete right out of HS can't decide to lay off a year or so and travel the world, etc. before starting college and still get 5 years. B ut what about the OTC? When did Marion go there and how many years did he get at Iowa? Also, Mormons go on missions and the time off doesn't count, but can a mission be right out of HS or do they have to be older, as usually in those cases you see interruption of college? Seems like I read something somewhere about time in the service. Oh, well, go to an NAIA college and you can compete if you're middle-aged.

That is what was thinking too. Weight control and discipline has been an issue for ISU. When D1 wrestlers are jumping from weight to weight in the middle of the season that is a coaching issue. I was expecting Boston to be pretty good, but it's hard to compete when your essentially wrestling 2 weights up.
Boston quit on the cut during season and then used a tactic where the coaches couldn't "make" him get to 25. He was a 113 and was expected to be a career 25. Of course the coaches wanted him there.
