Elizabeth Warren takes big move toward 2020 presidential run

Yeah. I don’t agree. It’s horrifying that someone would repeat a story passed down through her family.

She didn’t just say, “my family has always said I we have Native American ancestors.” She filled out a form and checked the box “Native American” instead of Caucasian.

That crosses a line that I can’t go along with.

On the second page of the thread I'm still waiting for the conservatives who characterize Warren as being nuts, crazy, far-left, etc. to cite a single policy position to back those claims. In her years of public service she has advocated for policies that don't allow corporations to externalize their costs and/or stack the deck against ordinary citizens. Sign me up for that.

At this point in the process and with out really doing a deep dive into anyone rumored to be in the running from the dem side I would not prefer any of the upper east coast candidates. To me they seem to be a little too cozy with the corporate world. Harris is intriguing because her background would lead her to run a great campaign. Don't be fooled as she is an old school cut throat type politician. Beto has to prove he has the ability to lead a party and not just throw out the red meat.
I would not be surprised if we see an all woman ticket from the dems that could win it.
Again, its way to early.

And she did that, claim a Native American ancestry, because her family told her the story. She didn’t receive hiring preference or tenure preference, at least according to Harvard.

If she runs, wins the nomination, and goes against Donald Trump, who is the most truthful and ethical person? Other than the 30ish percent of Americans who are hardcore supporters, who are going to say she is less truthful?

I would vote for Warren over Trump every day of the week. I think she's too risky, though. Assuming President Pussygrabber is still there, Dems can't leave anything to chance in 2020.

I would vote for anybody over Trump. I'm comparing her to my ideal candidate.

As far as her claim, my family has a much more specific claim -- that my great grandmother on my mother's side was 100% Cherokee. I have pictures of her, and it appears plausible. This is a far, far stronger claim to Native American ancestry that Warren has. But I would never dream of checking that box on any form I've ever filled out.

Tonto says: "Elizabeth Warren will not get the teepee
vote. She has gone off the reservation and drinks too
much fire-water. Even the squaws will not vote for her."

You know she claimed to be a "native american." She didn't merely state there was some Indian blood down the line several generations. Quit covering for her lie.

I agree that the 'upper east coast' candidates have a stereotype to overcome-- they always do-- but I don't think Murphy falls into line with the comment about being too cozy with corporations. I think he is a serious candidate and that being from CT may be his biggest fault.

so...you are saying that she exploited her ancestry to gain some sort of advantage? Like, she was intentionally deceiving? Why would she do that?

Serious question. I would like to know more.

How many Hail Marys will you have to do for this joke? Just shows again that people who hide behind a Bible are some of the worst I can think of.
agreed but focus on the people who act this way and not the bible, and definitely not the teachings of Jesus.

For mortgage reporting, in the old days you could only check one box for race and ethnicity. Now you can choose multiple. I'm guessing this job application was similar. It's a non-story, I don't understand why this is even news.

(Fun fact: a borrower can now also choose to be male and female.)

The Dems only need to field a duo without skeletons in the closet. Trumps/GOP agenda from 2016-2020 will do the rest.

The only way the Dems lose in 2020 is if the GOP Senate forces Turd out.

I don't know what her motivation was -- although it seems likely she thought it might assist her in some kind of Affirmative Action process in the future. What I don't believe for a moment is that she ever thought she had significant Native American blood in her. When questioned, her living family members either a)don't recall ever hearing about Native American ancestry, or b)recall vague stories of small amounts of NA blood.

But it seems pretty clear she was lying.

the dems got nothing right now that say says "winner" at all

Americans will not elect Jane Hathaway to the office of president....

She's almost as polarizing as Hillary.

If she were to run, she'd be lucky to beat Trump by the hair of her chinny chin chin. After two years of more and more sane people waking up to the mentally unstable con artist that is Trump, that's a hell of a statement.

To me, even though I'm not a huge proponent of the far left, Dems should learn from history and recognize Beto would likely have a similar impact that Obama did. Me, personally, I'm hoping for Joe Biden, warts and all. Unless, of course, John Kasich wants to throw his hat in the ring again.
Here's what makes the Democrats so stupid when picking candidates...they should have had a Clinton/Obama ticket in 2008, with Obama taking the presidency in 2016. They could have held the White House for 16 years.

Anyone who would vote/support trump would obviously not vote for an honest politician so she would get those votes. Hopefully she doesn't have to rely on those bottom feeder votes. That being said, I hope to find someone younger.

And even if she did, this is ALL the stupid conservatives need to vote against her...even though their assclown of a POTUS lies every single day to them. Every. Single. Day. It's insanity.

Just going by the numbers I think Warren takes Trump. He has lost support since 2016 which means that he'll probably get around 60 million votes in 2020. Factor in another electoral college disaster for the Dems and lets say that any hypothetical Dem candidate would need to get 65 million to beat him. That should be more than doable for Warren. Dems have gotten at least 65 million the last three elections (2016,12,08) and even got 65 million running Hillary who was the 2nd most disliked candidate ever.

So for me it all boils down to this basic question: Will Warren be more disliked that Hillary? I say no. Which means she should be able to get at least 65 million and hang a W on Trump.
