Pleasantly surprised. I thought he played pretty well. Had a couple of nice cuts to the rack. Didn't get burned on defense that I remember.

Most importantly, gets his shot off very quickly. Looks to me like he's just missing on his long range jumpers. Those should fall in the future.

I'm thinking he might be better than advertised.

BE kinda reminded me of JO tonight, was really surprised he didn't knock down some of those 3s. The 2 drives were nice, but damn he has to hit the 3 ball.

Small sample size. Great shooters have nights like that too. Hopefully it evens out over the season.

Poor man's JO. He is a Hawkeye so I wish him success but hope that others can fill the three point shooter role.

I am not going to compare Brady to JO...they are different players. I thought Brady was really good last night even though he missed a few shots.

Wow, you haven't watched him. He is basically still a freshman with practice time. He is still feeling his way and needs some strength and conditioning, but he doesn't seem lost and has skills, passing, good ball handling, doesn't force things. He will be a good player for the Hawks. Lots more positives I could add but that's enough for now.

Some of his misses were way off target. But, like Uhl, he did show flashes of quality play last night. Nice cuts, lots of hustle. But, he's here to make threes and needs to do that.

I think people started writing this kid off too quickly especially since we brought in a similar guard in this class in Fleming who doesn't appear as far along at this stage but looks like a guy who can really help us down the road. Those nice cuts Ellingson made in the first half show me he has a little more of an all around game than Oglesby who everybody likes to compare him to even though I think we should judge players on their own merit and not in comparison to others. Brady seems to have good court savvy and I think he will grow on Hawk fans as those outside shots start dropping.

BE looked like a baller today, what he lacks in physicality makes up for in decision making and positioning...hell of a game.

I have been an Ellingson doubter, but he looked very polished against Coppin State. Far better than the hyped Fleming who looks like he should still be playing in high school. It's early, I know, but Ellingson looks like a player.

Agree, BE is looking awfully good and Fleming just plain awful

Both of the sophs played well today. Very well. If that ugly shot of Uhl's drops consistently (and you don't get points for form) he will be a major contributor. Uhl's grown a couple of inches taller and looks much stronger. Ellingson looks like he knows where to be and when to be there. Several heady plays and the flat out great shooting I mentioned as a need above. Well, he delivered that today and then some. Now Ell would get points for form because his jumper looks like Jerry West.

Williams needs to start looking down court because he missed seeing Ellingson wide open to the left corner. Wagner is the only freshman that looks ready for extended minutes. I don't think we'll see the freshmen play many minutes against Marquette. I don't think we'll go any deeper than Ell & Dale Jones with a couple of minutes for Wagner.

Good job sophs and DJ today. Feeling better about the bench. FB argument yesterday I told my protagonist that having seen nothing in limited minutes is far different than writing off a kid after a couple of games because he hasn't shown anything ... yet.

Jones has a great stroke. Uhl played his best game as a hawk (even though it was coppin state) and do I dare say this, brady reminds me a little of the dreaded Steve Alford.

Ellingson made his layups. That is good sign.

I think Wagner has the kind of physical post play this team needs. I see Wagner/Woody platooning. Woody is going to get in foul trouble most game and be self limiting in his PT,

I also like us playing Uhl, Uthoff, Jones at same time. More athletic defenders and they can all hit the 3ball and handle the ball pretty well.

I don't see much advantage in playing both Clemmons/Gessell at same time unless we are going 3-guard to close out a game. I think Ellingson/Jok at the 2 mades more sense and playing 3 bigs out of (Woody, Wagner, Uthoff, Uhl, Jones).

This was 1st time I had seen Iowa play. I think they have some upside to be decent and make NCAA. Probably no shot at B1G title.

One game. Against powerful coppin state. And we hav someone comparing a kid to Steve Alford, one of the greatest college bball shooters ever.

Really? Take the black and gold tinted glasses off. LOL

What the hell, I once compared jok to Michael Jordan too.

Not to beat the BE vs JO dead horse, but Oglesby was never as quick down the floor and certainly would not have made (or likely taken) the contact bank that Ellingson made in the lane. That was impressive.

Not hating on Josh, I just think Ellingson is more athletic and has a more expansive skill set.

Brady is a freshman.

At this point Ellingson looks way better than Fleming to me, which, having seen very little of either previously , I would not have guessed.

Seems like a lazy unimaginative comparison to me, based mostly on looks and the fact that they both shoot 3s.

BE is smaller but looks allot quicker and more well rounded. Does allot more in the lane than JO. Allot quicker release on his shot too.

Where did you hear that he grew taller? Definitely got stronger.

I also like the backhanded compliments for Dom.

Youve always been on record as anti Uhl for some reason even though he has almost always looked good.

Young guys will have good outings and bad outings. Tonight Brady E looked pretty good against inferior competition.

Aaron White played next to no D his entire freshmen year. "Olé" was his favorite defense it seemed. Yet, he improved his game & defense a great deal while at Iowa.

Stick to your day job Chris. He is actually a rich man's JO. Fran is really high on this kid and expects him to be a big contributor this year. But what does Fran know compared to you?

I highly highly doubt it.

Highly doubt what? Ellingson? you obviously have blinders on or know little to nothing about basketball...the kid can flat out play. Good shooter, good handles, one of the very best cutters we've had in a long time, uncanny off the ball quickness to the basket & finishes...

Had he not had a foot injury last year .. he would have contributed.

This is why we have a coach and internet doubters have zero value. I'm sure we will hear from you the second Brady has a below avg game..nice MO to carry.
