Villanova's 3 point percentage is better than IOWA's layup percentage. Perimeter D............non existent. Similar to the O. Sad last game of the year.

Looks like I don't need to watch after church. Got better things to do than watch this garbage.

Rose Bowl, this game, Wrestling..... 2016 not starting out as a banner year.

Tough weekend in New York City. Wrestling and now Basketball. Spring football is just around the corner.

If I were Fran I would thank the seniors for their contribution as Hawkeyes and bench them the rest of the game. The future of the Hawkeyes is with the freshman class.

Go Hawkeyes!!!

I say make the seniors stay out there. Smoke the whole pack!!

Iowa's MBB talent level is weak and slow. Lucky to beat Temple. Like Iowa football, we expect too much from lower level star talent and walkons to make Iowa a real competitor. Fran needs to assess his team's talent and do something to improve it for the program's well being. If it means losing /cutting ties with some current members on this year's team players then do it.

Tom Kakert posted an Ellingson thread on his intentions to return to Iowa next year. Ellingson has no business playing in the B1G with his lack of footspeed and ball handling skills. He was not ranked a top 40 SG in his class and he is not a capable defender. His scholarship should end and a replacement SG/ PG should be sought out. No long term scholarship for Baer until team improves talent. Give Baer left over scholarship on yearly basis. I have not given up on Fleming yet but he is another guy who needs to evaluated for the future.

I am not against the kids as people and I am not trying to be some ba$tard hardA$$ with a grudge but Iowa's sorry performance over the last 6 weeks show the poor athletic depth of this team and its future. Iowa is a two shooter club with lower level guard play and little post offense. Cook and Wagner will change the post dynamic the next couple of seasons and Kriener and Pemsl will probably be solid career backups but Iowa won't have a killer offensive big man on the roster next year so recruiting demands a top 60 big man hunt. Hopeful a guy like Malik Williams with a inside outside game can be won over to Iowa. Uhl likes to only shoot the 3 point shot but rarely goes hard for the slam and misses a lot of close layups. Frustrating.

Jok and Jones will give way to Baer, Hutton, and Weiskamp at SF in the near future. Jok is not a shooting guard with his limited ball handling skills and Jones is probably better suited to the SF as he likes the wings more than the paint. Christian Williams shows signs of development and Jordan Bohannon may be a decent role player but JoBo may not be a physical match for the B1G or national contenders. He is not a fleet foot guy who can penetrate quickly and break down defenses, from what little videos I have seen. And Connor McC will never convince me that he is a college PG. He is a excellent passer and good shooter but only an above average dribbler. Connor is not fast enough to break down defenses with his dribbling. Connor is a SG. Iowa needs a physical PG leader. If not, IL HS junior 2X all stater Jordan Goodwin then Iowa needs to after a PG in the 2018 class like Courtney Ramey of Webster, Groves.

Today, Iowa fans got to see a Villanova guard I was the first to report on this board seeing in person in the Chicago area 4 years ago - Jalen Brunson from Lincolnshire,IL as HS sophomore. Iowa did offer but never really got into his top 5 schools. I said he was a guy Iowa needed to be in on.

Iowa needs to do better recruiting out of the state of Iowa. More focus into Missouri and Illinois BB talents.

Just like in the Rose Bowl we saw what happens when a team that is clearly more talented runs into a team that is not playing its absolute best.

Both of those games are proof that 80% of any college teams success starts with the talent level.

For a month we fooled the whole world. Like the football team fooled a lot of people for almost a whole season.

Bottom line is that we have to take a serious step up in talent to really compete with the big boys. MSU just crapped the bed against a team that should not have been much more than a exhibition game. THAT is the team WE beat.

Now the question is can Fran get that kind of talent. Today showed the gap. Can he close it?

Maybe MSU and Purdue just weren't that good.

Both choked in the first round against teams that I had never even heard of before.
Same thing I was thinking. I'm not sure how 4-0 can be considered a "fluke", especially after msu/pu single tourney game.

That said....you can use one hand to count how many teams could have stayed in that first half the way nova played. Hats off to them.

I don't think January was a fluke, just a little different. First, we were able to score well which I think boils down to two key items. 1) the hand check emphasis was being heavily enforce which was hard on MSU in particular. If MSU had been allowed to use their hands the way Nova did today they probably would have beat us both times. 2) nobody had yet figured out how to stop our 3 point shooters - mot just Uthoff and Jok,Gesell, Clemmons and Uhl were also hitting some threes.
Teams finally started bodying up and mauling Uthoff and Jok, in particular, but everybody else in general and our 3 point game kind of fizzled. Officials became disinterested in enforcing hand checks and pretty much our whole offense was compromised. Our guys just couldn't handle in-your-face defense. Worse yet, we kept playing hands off, distant D - didn't really challenge shooters.

I was hoping today that maybe Fran would tell the guys to go out and just slap the s**t out of the guy in front of them and see if the refs would call it on us. Take the fouls (if called) and foul out if you have to, but slap them around. Of course that didn't happen.

In the end, if you can't shoot baskets you can't win games. A RS freshman walk-on was our top scorer until Uthoff finally decided to take a 3 with about 3 minutes left. Our worst FT shooter ended up with a better FT % than our best FT shooter.

once again showing the difference in the talent level. Nova was playing up to the level of their talent; and just blew us away.

The recepie for Beating this Iowa team is as simple as making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Which is?

Not to jump in, but I believe you start by getting out two pieces of bread. You proceed to put peanut butter on one slice (I prefer crunchy), then spread the jelly of your choice on the other slice. Put the two pieces of bread together with the peanut butter and jelly sides facing each other. Enjoy!

It's disappointing but not embarrassing for me. I'm not ebarrassed by things that aren't directly related to me and things I have no control over. It's not like people are saying to each other, "Did you see the team that guy roots for yesterday? What a loser." (There is a decent chance both things are said in separate discussions about me)
I'm an alum and a big fan so it's just disappointing that the team finished the way it did, especially after the team looked so good in January. Whether the players and coaches should be embarrassed is another discussion.
