Thanks WDDT. Nothing really new, except the vacation stuff, but its kind of funny to see the national media kind of get that its OK not to be the flashy guy. Of course fans, even Hawk fans, come down on both sides of the same old Kirk mantra, but given the landscape of college sports today, (and we could list numerous schools in the BIG alone), you could have a lot worse articles written about the man who leads your program. I know if I had a young man in my house these days looking to play college ball, I'd be fine having KF sitting in my living room, talking about the values he espouses.
LOL........Kinda brings a tear to your eye huh?Damn. Kinda wanna give Kirk a hug after that.
Love Kirk, but this program needs some energy.
Exactly right. The "everything about the program is stale" is well, stale. The new coaches, including BF for sure have certainly brought a fresh perspective, and energy to the program.I think the program has received that energy over the last 2-3 years (coaching additions, facility upgrades, change in practice schedule, etc.) and that we're on our way to reaping those benefits.
Excited for this upcoming season, to say the least.

I think Hayden Fry will always be my favorite Iowa football coach, Howard Jones and Forest Evashevski fielded some great teams. But I am proud that Kirk Ferentz is the coach of the Hawkeyes.
Ultimately, Kirk Ferentz will be remembered as a
coach who put "character": at the top of his list
in recruiting. He built up 2 star and 3 star players
out of high school into All-Big Ten players with a
few All-Americans thrown in. He taught fundamentals
and made them the foundation of his program.
I am verklempt, talk among yourselves.
Maybe.....maybe not.....Love Kirk, but this program needs some energy.
Haden pulled us out of a deep hole we were in. He was just what the doctor ordered for that time in our history. For me Hayden and Kirk are pretty even.
Of course Hayden was more flamboyant, but Kirk has such a steady character.
We have been lucky lucky lucky fans.
Two coaches in 40 years. That's just crazy.
Another thing that I think will help us energize the program is the early signing period. In the past, if we find a recruit we really like, one of the big programs might try to steal him away from us at the last minute. Now we get to sign our guys before the big boys get desperate.I think the program has received that energy over the last 2-3 years (coaching additions, facility upgrades, change in practice schedule, etc.) and that we're on our way to reaping those benefits.
Excited for this upcoming season, to say the least.
We're so lucky to have a coach like him, especially with the Urban Meyer's of the world running around
Hope he stays for another 20 years
Almost sorry I even posted, as this isn't really even worth a response. Just more look at us from a team thats done NOTHING yet. Please do join us again on the Saturday after Thanksgiving after Iowa rolls up 45 on that swiss cheese defense......And so do the Husker fans and every other BIG10 team. Hope you guys enjoy the mediocrity and the very rare, occasional 9-3 to 10-2 seasons. Kirk will NEVER, EVER win the big one or get you guys over the hump. I feel bad for you guys, with a real coach you guys could do so much more. Plus side for us Huskers, Mike Riley’s gone and the days of Iowa getting easy wins over us are looonnnggg gone. Frost has almost flipped this Husker team. Our top 100 Dual threat QB Adrian Martinez and skill players like UA MVP Maurice Washington are about to burn the BIG10 west defenses. Good luck this season and the future, Huskers have a bright one coming![]()

These are very special times with Kirk as HC.
I know many of us never lose sight of this.![]()
I haven't heard people complain about not getting 5*'s....they are rare. But if last years class with several 4*s was more typical I think we'd be fine, especially if we could get playmakers at receiver. Couldn't agree more about that position making us a more legit and consistent west contender. You know, many people would rag Kirk for not trying to get these 5 star elite players, but in reality, how much time is wasted when the vast majority of those kids will choose Alabama, tOSU or one of the big name blue bloods in the end anyway. I understand his thinking, spend time with the kids who fit your program and you have a realistic chance to land. Maybe he could get a high 4 star kid or two, but is it worth devoting much time when the odds say that kid will go to tOSU? I am like everyone here, I want 10 wins every year, but I think his approach is probably smart for Iowa. We are always rated somewhere next to Wisconsin in recruiting every year, and we know how there program has dominated the West lately, so it's more then just the star ratings. However, we put together a couple 10 win seasons back to back and the door opens a little wider in recruiting. With Desmond and Josh's success, our reputation for offensive lineman and TE's, were getting good recruits there,. This team could go a long way to taking that next step if we have a good year throwing the ball, cuz we have been solid at most positions, but a good WR or two can make us an annual West title contender.

Neb’s going to compete all of the sudden?!It’s going to be fun to see Iowa, Wisconsin, and soon to be Nebraska battle it out for the west title in the coming years. The winner of the Iowa/Wisconsin game this year will be the West representative in the B1G Championship this year. Think Iowa goes on a run like Wisconsin starting this season, followed by Nebraska in the coming years once they build up their roster. It will start being more of a three horse race in three or four years.
Still laugh at Nubbers saying how they are going to destroy Iowa now they got the right coach. We’ve heard it with the last couple coaches and will continue to do so long after Frost is gone.
