ESPN Bracketology, Updated MARCH 13. IOWA is a 5 Seed in CHICAGO Regional. Bracket Matrix on MARCH 13 has IOWA a 5 Seed. #14 NET Ranking on March 13

I've seen a couple brackets with Iowa at the 6 and Memphis at the 11. I know they took some bad losses early in the year but, like Iowa, they've been playing much better winning 9 out of 10, not sure I'd want to see them in a first game.
6/11 is always a dangerous matchup. You're likely playing a major school that had some lumps at some point or one of the better midmajors.

According to KenPom, here is the B1G ranked defensively.

#20 Indiana
#29 Illinois
#34 Wisconsin
#38 Rutgers
#48 Northwestern
#56 Michigan State
#59 Penn State
#71 IOWA
#83 Michigan
#105 Purdue
#110 Maryland
#121 Ohio State
#154 Minnesota
#173 Nebraska
I didn't notice Indiana but the point remains since they are likely not going to get a bid unless they have a decent B10 tournament performance.

As of MARCH 8, 6:00 am CT:

Michigan gets one of the LAST 4 BYES.

After looking through these brackets and the locations I probably should change my stance on the seeding. I'll take whatever seed but put us in MIlwaukee. Iowa fans could turn that place into a home court advantage. Although I'm sure both seeding an location intertwine, I doubt they would send Iowa to Milwaukee as a 7 seed. lol

The next best destination is probably Indianapolis. Just get on the I80 express!

Gard said a little bit ago on BTN that he was hoping Wisconsin would play Round 1 and 2 in Milwaukee. That's where Lunardi has them at the moment.

Lunardi has Illinois in Milwaukee as well.

But I agree. How sweet would it be if Iowa landed in either Milwaukee or Indianapolis?

It's hard to imagine that Illinois and Wisconsin aren't going to Milwaukee given the other teams in the top 16 seeds. Iowa can't play Illinois until the Sweet 16. We're only going to Milwaukee if we're with Wisconsin. It will not be a home game in that scenario though we can beat them.

As for Indianapolis, it's going to be Kentucky and one of Tennessee/Purdue. Can't play Purdue. Kentucky is probably worst case scenario since they're the highest 2 seed.

This is being overlooked, but there are a lot of Iowa fans who will be staying to sell out the women's tournament. That's going to cut into the crowd numbers at the men's games.

The best thing for the men's team is to go to a place like Pittsburgh, etc. where they might be playing a team they matchup better against even if it's farther away.

Hopefully, we get the midwest region which is in Chicago though. That would be a great Iowa crowd.

Does the region matter? To play in Chicago would require Iowa to get to the Sweet 16, not something they have historically done

It's just one man's opinion even though he is the committee chair. Gotta remember this is the same committee that put Loyola in the 8/9 game despite being top 10 in kenpom. But we'll see. Maybe it's a good sign.

A 4 seed in the NCAA tournament if Iowa makes the B1G Tournament final?

Andy Katz just said it!

Ha, that player from Rider that made that winning shot was guilty of an obvious travel (despite what the announcer said), but no call.

Sorry Iona! I suppose that means we will see Tricky Rick Pitino in Maryland colors next year.

Ken Pomeroy must be doing live updates to his rankings, Iowa jumped up to #13, just ahead of Purdue and are now the highest ranked team from the Big Ten in the Kenpom.

If you want to use WAB to approximate Strength of record, here’s an outlook for Iowa.

What each win would potentially be worth.

Rutgers - 0.41
Illinois - 0.67
Purdue - 0.75

A loss would dock Iowa 1 minus the value of a win. A loss to Rutgers drops Iowa by 0.59 for example.

Iowa’s WAB is 3.2 right now ranked 24th nationally.

Lose to Rutgers. WAB=2.6. Would be around 32nd nationally currently.

Resume wise 8 seed. Factoring in advanced analytics likely a 6 seed with an outside chance of a 7 seed.

Lose to Illinois. WAB=3.3. Would be around 24th nationally currently.

Resume wise lowest 6 seed. Would guess a 5 seed is still in play here, but it depends on what they put the most weight on. If they value resume, then Iowa will be a 6. Otherwise, they’re a 5.

Win vs Illinois. WAB=4.3. Would be around 21st nationally.

Resume wise still a 6 seed. But the important thing is the gap is close enough to propel them comfortably into the 5 spot with their ridiculous advanced analytics. Outside chance at a 4 seed depending on again on what the committee values.

B10 title game isn’t really factored in by selection time. But if it was and Iowa won, they’d be a lock for a 4 seed.

Iowa might pass a Purdue for the #1 B1G team in kenpom now. Texas is a team ahead of us that took a loss to TCU. Potentially a team Iowa can leapfrog.

Yep. Today, KenPom has Iowa as the best team in the B1G.

So the win didn’t move Iowa in the NET rankings, I was hoping the margin of victory could bump it a spot, but the loss dropped Northwestern NINE spots (91)! That’s insane to move that many spots at this point in the season.
