As the cliché in sports always goes, there’s always next year!

While the 2023 recruiting class had some late disappointment for Hawkeyes fans with five-star offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor flipping to Alabama, it really was a pretty solid class. If you’re still in that downer camp, though, there appears to be even better days ahead for Iowa.
In ESPN’s recent 2024 recruiting rankings, Iowa actually finished 10th overall. They are the top-rated Big Ten squad with two ESPN 300 commits already. Headlining the class so far is four-star offensive lineman Cody Fox, one of the top guard recruits in the country.

Time will tell if the Hawkeyes can maintain a place around the top 10, but early on they’re building off of in-state talent to rank among the top classes. Cody Fox is a top OG prospect nationally and the top-rated in-state prospect. They have kept two very good versatile players home in Cam Buffington and Preston Ries, who both project to linebacker. Ries, who also plays quarterback for Monticello Community High School, tested very well on the camp circuit this past offseason, and his athleticism translated to the field as well. He should only improve with a focus on defense. – Craig Haubert, ESPN.

It’s very early on in the recruiting process, but here Iowa is, amongst the big boys. It does feel weird to see them as the highest ranking Big Ten school, behind five SEC schools and two ACC programs as well.

There’s still a lot of time and there are still 220 members of the ESPN 300 who are yet to commit, but here is a look at the nine other teams currently joining Iowa as the top 10 recruiting classes for the 2024 cycle.

Total ESPN 300 commits: 2

Top ESPN 300 commit: No. 167 Cody Fox (four-star OG; East Buchanan Community School in Winthrop, Iowa)

Other ESPN 300 commits: No. 282 Cam Buffington (four-star OLB)

The fact espn does these meaningless rankings is almost as stupid as starting a thread about it. What a ridiculous thread title

Oh good now we won't have walk ons in the secondary. A Big 10 team with walkons in the secondary, no wonder we lose to OhioSt by 54 and Michigan 42-3.

Point in time. They will drop as other schools build their classes
Exactly and this is not taking anything away from Iowa's 2024 class. Recruiting heavy weights like Bama and OSU are still feeling many recruits out. Right now - being early in the 2024 process - the main figure to pay attention to is the average rating per players. Still, Iowa's 87.82 average is SOLID right now
