Evan Gershkovich and Paul Whelan to be released from Russia

it really would be nice to see that. Most of what i've seen so far suggests that, with the exception of a german mercenary held in belarus, and some kids being repatriated to russia with their spy parents, this is the usual "good guys for bad guys" type of deal. (At least, of course, if you believe that about our guys). And I gotta say, setting aside the numerical equivalencies, there are some pretty perverse incentives inherent in that type of exchange.

Be nice to know vs. speculate to score political points. I suspect we’ll never know the full deal.

Well, the BBC does shed some light on scope -- something like 16 from russia, 8 from us. Of the 16, 5 Germans and 7 Russians who the administration itself has described as political prisoners/activists (though one of the Germans may have been a little more than that as having been described as a mercenary on one account i saw), so that leaves four, of which we know 2 are Whelan and Gerskovich.

Again, always good when people get out, especially when they're pawns. But the $64 question, I suppose, is how many pawns are worth a knight, a bishop, or a rook. That's a fair political question, given that at least one of the rooks murdered somebody.

I’m going to need names, social security numbers, resume, and letters of recommendation (not from their mother) for all of them to decide.

Setting aside all of the exchange rate question, step back a moment and contemplate the fact that if anything ever indicated that we were back in a cold (at least) war, prisoner exchanges are it.

Weren't you recently bitching that Griner got to come home before Whelan? What would you have done to being our citizens home international negociator?
I'm pissed that griner was traded for a literal international arms dealer especially since she was in prison for drug use

Sly post, but from what I just saw on TV you never call a deal done until hostages are released from Russia and on Western or neutral soil. Also, there might be a larger deal in the works.
I'm hearing World Peace may be involved.

Let’s do a quick brain functioning check: Do you believe that Trump could’ve gotten this done without having to swap prisoners? That’s what he claims he could’ve done.

Well with history as our guide Trump did get two Americans held in Yemen released in exchange for 250 Houthi’s.

Radical Right is pissed about this exchange, so we all know it's a huge accomplishment by this WH.

Add another feather to Joe's cap.

Kicking ass and taking names.

20 Russian spies is the price tag. It's an even worse trade than the merchant of death for Brittney griner deal. The biden/harris administration is very, very bad at negotiations.
You can't just make shit up, you moron.

We always end up on the losing end of these bargains. It is what it is.
We value our people more than they value theirs.

That’s why Israel always agrees to 100 to 1 swaps or other outlandish deals.

Gotta do what you gotta do.

If you go along with the beliefs of the turning point cold war series, we never left.

Imagine how many Republican heads will explode if Biden wins the Nobel Peace Prize????

I’m wondering if Putin might be giving up on Trump. Timing seems very interesting.
From the analysis I heard Putin really wanted his prized murderer back from the Germans, and Trump’s bi-polar negotiating style and his hostility with an ally like Germany made a deal unlikely. Putin took the deal now to get the guy he wanted all along.

All in all an impressive bit of work by the Biden Administration. They played the long game and won. Yes, some of them probably shouldn’t have been there, but Putin taking Gershkovich hostage was unprecedented. Taking Whelan hostage while attending a wedding was unprecedented. This wasn’t Cold War spy games, it was hostage taking at a state level.

Can't link it, but there is a very detailed story on the CNN website that Kamala Harris was a VERY big part of getting German officials on board with the swap.

Madame President has a nice ring to it.

Simply pointing out FACTS for you.
Why do you feel the need to only.post snippets which leave out context Joe?

Lulz.

It wouldn't be because you're a parasitic piece of shit would it?

Seminole got his ass kicked on this in another thread. No surprise you are bringing it up as well.

WTF are you babbling about now?

What is your take on the Transition Integrity Project?
I would rather wipe my ass with a porcupine than try to explain the multithread brain pretzel I have Jow in right now to you.

Long story short, Joe was dumb enough to criticize one of his go to moves.
