To preface this, I'm asking him to help more. Though if you wanna help figure out why he can't provide more off the bench than a mildly (at best) steady hand at passing the basketball, and someone to give us 5 players on the floor on defense, then by all means, chime in!!! :)

He is currently averaging 2.2 ppg as a Senior, and has scored 13 total pts in 11 Big Ten games.......

Had a season-high 15 in our win over Cincinnati.....but has also been held scoreless now in 12 games.

Is there any way this guy could do a little bit more to give us even 2-4 pts a game off the bench? A mid-range jump shot? 2 free throws? Bueller?.....Anything?..........

You're welcome, Bakari.

He made a dead ball 3. He needs greenlighted a little bit in some of the lineups.
Ya when Evelyn’s out there he knows his role isn’t to shoot, so he doesn’t really hunt shots, and I think he feels quite a bit of pressure when he does shoot.

Agree that when the lineup is Evelyn, Fredrick, Connor, Pemsl, Kriener, Evelyn should hunt his shot a bit

He came to Iowa to win, not hunt stats. If Iowa is winning he seems happy, thank goodness for that. This is the difference between winning basketball and the alternative. Pretty rare these days to see a team with multiple guys willing to do this.

Makes me so happy to see it happen. People all around ( fans, coaches, and media) amateur basketball are noticing this culture of the current Iowa team and are both surprised and impressed.

He’s not a scorer. Period. He couldn’t shoot at Valpo. I think if Fran told him to shoot more he’d shoot more. Pretty solid defender and distributor. That’s who he is.

I think he could be a little more aggressive taking it to the basket on occasion.

Sometimes he'll have a step on his guy and then decides to turn around and dribble back outside.

I don’t mind him passing up jumpers but wouldn’t mind seeing him take the ball to the rim and just see what happens. If I’m the Iowa coaching staff, I’d just tell him to try and dunk on someone at least once every game. Who cares how it turns out. Help him be more aggressive.

You don't win too many games in which you're outscored 29-0 in bench scoring, especially when one of your starters is a non-factor. Pemsl played ok, but Evelyn has completely lost his shot, and Kriener had his worst game in quite a while. Need all of our bench players to step it up. In the meantime, kudos to our 4 starters who all had a great game.

Our starters are going to win or lose the games for us, we already know ;)

On the flip side, how many teams are going to win if their entire starting 5 is outscored by just 2 starters on the other team?

Hell our 2nd/3rd scorers equaled their entire starting 5 :D

Couldn’t shoot at Valpo? He’s now taken approx. 350 3 pointers in his career at 33%. While that’s not great I don’t think I’d call it “cant shoot”.

He doesn't need to hunt shots, but he should be at least enough of a threat that the D has to respect him. Right now it's at best 4 on 5 on offense when he's on the floor. If both he and Pemsl are out there together now it's 3 on 5.

That is a misleading stat when one of the best.players for Illinois comes off the bench. I believe he is their best shooter and regularly scores a bunch of points off the bench. It would be like if we had Weiskamp come off the bench

Evelyn was 38% as a sophomore, 30 last year. He doesn’t look good shooting at all this year. He’s had 2 decent games shooting the ball this year. He’s actually getting worse. But if you guys want him to shoot more fine. I’d rather see him pass.

I want him to be more selective and understand where he can look to score.

He is a Senior, and he is not unathletic. It's not that hard......

He’s shooting 27% from the field, so yes it is hard for him. Again, I’d say he’s doing fine passing. But go on.

Yes, do let me go on about asking a player to score one more point per game than what he has been averaging in Big Ten play............

Thanks for agreeing with me, Iowa fan. :)

It looks like he has zero confidence with his shot. Lots of really bad misses on good looks recently, which obviously does not bode well for his ability to contribute on the offensive end. Defensively, he probably leads the conference in fouls on 3-point shots, so there's that.

Ok Monkey, let me put it this way. Would you rather have our 3 best players get more shots or Bakari take another 3-4 per game? Frederick getting more shots or Bakari?

I did not read a single post saying they want him to shoot more. Not one.

So the thread was Evelyn. Bench scoring please help. So you you were asking him to help more, your exact words were mid range jump shot, free throws, etc. So for him to do that, please explain as you are so much smarter than me. To hit a mid range jump shot or make free throws does he not have to shoot? What am I missing ?

Pemsl is not going to score much sans an offensive rebound/putback. 2-3 points per game.

Bakari is hard to figure out, he is smooth has a decent shot but rarely shoots. He needs to get us 4-5 points per game, via dribble drives/draw fouls.

Kreiner is the one that has gone into his shell. He has some decent moves, is very active at the rim and needs to get his 3 point mojo back. 6-8 points per game.

PS all 3 are very good FT shooters

Pemsl is the guy to me that could score but he has been clearly coached not to. So many times he backs out. If that’s in his own head and not ‘orders’ we could use him scoring more I think.
