Exactly WHEN Was America Great???

I think if you do some research, you might want to reconsider some of your points.

For instance, in Germany, your free college educational opportunities are slotted beginning in the 3rd grade, and change based on performance every few years. If you want to pursue an opportunity outside your slot, you pay out of pocket. No federal guarantee college loan.

In most EU and UK countries, health care is rationed. While you likely would still get the health care you need, you might have to wait a long time for that care.

That free healthcare isn't free, it's paid for by taxes, and everyone pays taxes.

I share your concerns with insurance in Florida, but insurance has gone crazy everywhere, and it's largely due to inflation everywhere, and hurricanes in Florida. Houses and vehicles cost way more to replace than they did pre-covid.
And those taxes they pay are much higher than they are here.

And?? So what…It’s not like the citizens of these countries are not getting “a bang for their buck” and it’s not like the citizens gave no say how their tax money is spent.
It is their decision.
Rationed healthcare and long waits? Yep, bang for their buck.

lol. Well I hope that makes you happy. Let me know if you need any he

This explains a 💩ton. Hope you can get some help or you have a friend or family member who can get in your face and tell you what’s what.

Thank you, I appreciate the concern...I drink 3 or 4 times every 2 weeks. I just had a shitty fvcking night, so I plan on being passed out by 5 or 6. And do some blow 3 or 4 times a year. Now I do get high all day everyday.. So give me a break with that shit.

Goldmom, you knew me back in the day. Was I political (i.e. really gave shit about politicians)? I've always been liberal, no argument there. But back then I really didn't see that much of a difference between the parties. Granted my ideology is closer to Democrats than Republicans, in theory. In reality they were both full of self serving trimmers not worthy of my vote. It's way I didn't vote for 20 years after reading the following article.

That all changed with Trump and MAGA. I hated that I voted for Biden, although he surprised me, because there's maybe a hand of Dems that I would actually vote for., probably the same amount of Reps. But the GOP now disgusts me, because they let a grifting, piece of shit conman to not only get elected president, but have absolute control over EVERYONE in the party. He's not a smart person, fact is he doesn't even have average intelligence. It's blows my mind that this idiot not only became president, but has that much power right now, especially after stop the steal, Jan 6, etc. etc. etc. I never ever thought that could happen here from EITHER party. It scares me how close our democracy was from being no more. It came down to one man that did the right thing. What if he didn't? And it could happen again, except there probably won't be that one man.

It's why I will vote straight Dem till there's no candidate running that was endorsed by Trump or bent the knee to Trump. It's why they're all MAGA to me, that and they taken his playbook and run with it. Instead of doing shit that makes the populations life better, they waste time fighting over shit that's WAY down the list of shit we need to worry about. But hey, they're owning the libs, right?

I now understand why you have become such a different person than the funny and engaging one who posted over the years.

Your homeowner insurance has skyrocketed like so many fellow Floridians but as I recall your house got basically destroyed by a hurricane over that way - and weren’t you trapped in the upper part of the house to escape the flooding?

Is your student debt eligible to be cancelled by Biden’s administration decree?

And here’s a hard question for you - if you’re so broke why are you chugging vodka and doing pot? They ain’t free.
Get off that crap. Try some Delta8 or Delta9. I have a relative who takes it to help their anxiety and my relatives in that branch of the family swear it’s made them give thanks every day cause they’re living with a new person.

My house wasn't destroyed, lost the roof and some other damage, a little under $40k worth.

My student loan debt was forgiven when I went on disability.

I'm not broke, I have my SS and got my pension from the state, but where I was living somewhat comfortable, now it's starting to push it. With all the shit I've gone through the last few years, I don't need this added on.

I completely understand. My mortgage expenses have climbed too and will probably go up another $150 in January if not sooner because of insurance and a special tax district in my neighborhood.
I buy all generic brands at the grocery store. At Walmart! 😳 Thank heavens I don’t have a car payment.
I had a pretty good job but I have had to get used to not bringing in six figures anymore. I’m not poverty stricken but I’m not rich either.
Our politics don’t come into play - because we’re all feeling the effects of rising costs.
I’m sorry you’re going through this - but you are not alone.

Again, go live amongst them.

Dude, I would trade places in a heartbeat with any of them....you will have a ride awaking when you start having health problems.

I would have gladly paid an extra 15% in taxes if it meant no medical bills. For profit health care is so morally wrong, no one that never sees a patient should be getting rich off sick people. It preys on the poor and costs more FAR for services that aren't as good, just take a look at our rankings with respect to health care. We pay far more, for less.

You think it’s just 15%? Go to Europe and find out.

Among European OECD countries, the average statutory top personal income tax rate lies at 42.8 percent in 2024. Denmark (55.9 percent), France (55.4 percent), and Austria (55 percent) have the highest top rates. Hungary (15 percent), Estonia (20 percent), and the Czech Republic (23 percent) have the lowest top rates.

Owning a home is something I'm very proud of, but I'll probably sell it within the next few months and find a place to rent. Why? Because I'm now paying more for home owners insurance per month than the original mortgage payment. And the political leaders in this state would rather own the libs than work on real problems such as this. I'm sure the millions in contributions they receive from said companies have nothing to do with this.
You think the landlord doesn't have insurance expenses that will be passed on to you? Property taxes that won't be passed on to you? You chose to live in a high risk area then to should pay higher premiums. Sounds like your insurance co. already gave you 40K so you're already on the right side of the equation...

True, but my bills will be cheaper across the board

If you’re willing to trade a long waiting list and uncertain approval for some drugs because they’re expensive then by all means go for it.
By the way many of those countries can allocate government spending to health care because the US provides the defense umbrella they don’t have to fund. So veterans here who served over there get second class care while countries like Germany can give their citizens healthcare our vets can’t get timely care here at home.

I play DayZ with mostly European players in my faction, I've had extensive conversations about this and they would laugh at this. You're brainwashed by Fox News...stop being brainwashed. Oh, I guess you already forgot I had to wait almost two years for a bone infection surgery...what do you fvcking call that?

You’re wrong about my “brainwashing”. I rarely watch Fox and then it’s to do a quick check of the market on Fox Business.
I think it’s terrible that you were forced to wait two years. I’m on Medicare too and thus far it’s been fine but that could change tomorrow.
Glad you’re alive and well but you’re in a major depression cycle right now and booze and weed make it worse. Hope you get something else that helps you,

And the posts on this board show that there are people who are still under the impression that it was true - so if Reagan was campaigning on it then it was an effective message. What’s the excuse forty years later unless it’s just ignorance?
So you’re saying Reagan lied to you 40 years ago and you’re dumb enough to still believe it?

At least you're admitting that our health care system is inferior.

Sadly, if we cut our defense budget in half (as Rand Paul wanted to do some years back), that saving wouldn't go to health care. Heck, it wouldn't even go to reducing the deficit. It would go to tax cuts. JMO, of course, but do you disagree?

Reality check on the debt. Take the time to watch it, it’s very informative.

Hmm. If that meant American consumers had more $ in their pocket to shop for better health care it’s an interesting question.

Also at this point we’re way behind in defense capabilities so if we can truly get our NATO partners to meet their agreed upon amounts that might help.

I have the VA and UPMC FOR LIFE insurance, no premiums. In Nov 2021 it was discovered i had a tumor on my prostate. In Jan they started the 1st of 28 radiation treatments. The 1st of June i had my 1st PSA blood test, the cancer was gone. My total bill, $ 288. my share of a minor operation for markers inserted. This June was a 2 year checkup, PSA reading 0.05. This vet has had 2 operations with no delays, and bills when i left the Hospitals.

Were they stuck in the kitchen or did they get to be in the kitchen?

It’s funny as I was visiting with my parents this weekend and my mom brought up the Harrison butker situation on her own and for the most part agreed with him.
As a little background, my mom is 66, early in her adulthood she had a few odd jobs when she was younger and raising us kids. She said it sucked when we were older and she had to find a full time job along with my dad to be able to afford raising all of us.
She loved being able to be home “in the kitchen” raising us and even joked about all those damn women needing equal rights, they had it made before someone thought they had to have a job outside the household.
I often joked that I would be a stay at home dad to make up for all the suffering women went through, i think I’d go crazy if I had to stay home all day taking care of a kid(s).
Yep…being a mom and home-maker is a tough, often thankless job.

And women, gays, other non-English nationalities, etc.
well the non-English immigrants back then came in legally, then learned English and worked, or starved.

As for women, name all the countries that were so much better.
What seemed so great about the late 30’s early 40’s?
In the 40s, the USA saved Europe from speaking German with a little bit of Italian for variety. Then one could look at the far east and what that island country was doing.

As for women…are you serious? Would you rather be a woman in 1940 USA or 2024 USA? Would you rather be a woman in the U.S. or Pakistan? Iraq? Somalia? Sudan? India? Syria? Afghanistan? Just to name a few. The list around the world is large where women do not have equal rights.

My father is 50% Mexican, born in 1940, in the U.S. I can promise you being a different nationality was worse then than it is now.

You are Chis can have your little love affair with your favorite time in history for the US. According to Chis, it was only worse back then for AA.

Plus don’t forget most Euro countries charge a sales tax on most goods purchased of about 20% or higher.
Not fan of the VAT. It might make sense in principle (although I'm not convinced of that) but it doesn't seem to be implemented with that principle in mind. Then again, I'm an American, so maybe I'm missing something.

Since that's the case, I'm sure that you've amassed a significant personal medical savings account by now,.. Good for you.

Good news for you and glad you’ve had such a good result.
Prostate is what eventually took my Dad at 88 but he had many good years with the very slow developing type of the disease.

Did you watch the John Hook Newsmaker video I linked at least three times? They discussed the VAT tax and what it would take to climb out of the debt crisis in this country. If you didn’t watch it, shame on you because one of the times I linked it was a direct response to you.

If we want to make America great again, we should probably be able to answer that question. But it isn't that easy because - duh! - best at what?

Apologies to those for whom the article is behind a pay wall. Here's a snip of one of the interesting charts. It's interactive in the article. And there are some charts comparing Ds and Rs, too.
