EXCELLENT article on explaining why the US has so many MASS shootings.

And not every mass murderer uses a gun but it seems to be the only means that gets discussed by anyone.

True, but I would guess the vast majority of mass murders are committed with a gun. You don't see too many mass murders committed with kitchen shears.

Why don't we see mass shootings like this in China or Japan? Certainly those people put more pressure on themselves to succeed than we do.
I assume you are fishing for the obvious answer that it's a lot harder to get a gun in those nations. I'm here to help.

In China they are big on poison, explosions and fires, fire in planes too.
I hear fire is popular in India too. Especially as a way of getting rid of extra brides. Maybe life in America isn't so crappy after all.

We focus so much on the mass shootings but no one even remembers the Happy Land fire in New York City in 1990 when 87 people were murdered. When was the last time 87 people were killed in a mass shooting in the US?

Fire seems to be one popular method, automobiles are another.

Agreed, there are other methods, but the vast majority of massacres in the U.S have been committed with weapon. You can always find an outlier, but let's at least be honest that most are committed with a weapon. And I'm more concerned about why rather than a gun grab. There are other countries with free gun access that don't have nearly the mass murder gun rate.

As opposed to spoken word? Of course they are. Guns, knives, hammers, fire, bombs, cars, the list goes on.

Play all the word games you want. This is not difficult. If you can't agree that the vast majority of U.S massacres have been as a result of the use of a gun, there is no point in discussing the issue.

The great majority of people England 'allowed" to come to this country were the dregs of society at the time. It all started there. We were doomed from the beginning.
They sent people that have lots of problems and they brought those problems. They brought drugs, they brought crime. They were rapists and some, I assume, were good people.

Yes most of them have been. The most successful ones use fire but more mass killers in the US use guns. In China they use fire and explosives. We only seem to talk about the guns.

Agree most discussions are about guns. When one happens, the gun grabbers jump on it and a couple days later the NRA holds a pro-gun rally in the same city. There has to be an answer because the mass shootings are getting old.

I've said this for years. We were founded by the crazies, the losers, the outcasts and what constitutes the current illegal alien stock of that time. That's what makes America exceptional.

The U.S. actually has very few mass shootings considering the size of this country.

Mass shootings are actually rare here.

A lot of heavily populated areas don't have guns, or schools..... and in order to go shoot somebody, they would have to stop f***** and making babies for long enough to actually go do it. Also, in a lot of those areas, they do have guns, but the military, and militant groups have all the guns, and point them at the sheeple.

So, it sounds like this violence all still comes back to Participation Trophies.

Thanks a lot Libs.
I finally watched the HBO Real Sports segment last night. Pretty damning, and interesting to learn about the "self-esteem movement" from the 80's, which was when I was growing up. I did actually receive a lot of participation ribbons, but the winners always got something better, and we all knew it. I think that's ok, but this equal result regardless of effort thing that goes on is pretty ridiculous.

How do I read this? When I look at the #5 on July 15th, does that mean 5 people were shot all across the US or does it mean there were five shootings involving three or more people for a total of 15+ victims in the US that day? I suspect this is just showing how often the masses get shot and not actual mass shootings which involve multiple victims.

Why are there more active shooters over the past 2 presidential terms? Racial fueling by the POTUS?

Why is the South the most violent area in America?

I would say states that "enforce" their gun laws more have fewer active shooters.

Seems that people have a different view:

Care to swirl in any more liberal ideas? You may have missed one.
Or you beat them down to the lowest rungs of society with the winner take all -- and win at cost mantra -- of naked capitalism, combined with the lack of equal opportunity in education -- caused by the property tax funding model -- add in cuts in social programs, including mental health care funds, in favor of tax cuts for the rich in the name of the false prophet of supply side voodoo economics, swirl in the potent mixer of virtually unlimited access to weapons -- and of course people are gonna snap and take a few out with them on the way out the door.

See, we can play a fun game of blame the other guys for all our collective problems. Or we can work jointly to help fix the problem.

The people here understand that people who shoot people care not about the rules, yet they think more rules against guns, which won't do any good, is the answer?
How illogical.
We all know we have more than enough laws, if anything we need to loosen or completely do away with the laws regarding gun ownership and concealed carry, statistics demonstrate an armed America is a safe America.

"All five of the countries with the largest number of guns per capita (of which the U.S. is No. 1) ranked among the top 15 countries for public mass shootings, including two countries with reputations for safety, Switzerland and Finland. Many other studies have found a correlation between local gun ownership rates and deaths from shootings."

Anyone else notice that part?
Well, good Lord, it's not like this is obvious or predictable. More people die of accidents skiing and mountain climbing in Colorado than in Oklaoma, too. More people are killed by African-Americans in New York City than in Des Moines.

If there are more guns, there are going to be more gun-related incidents, both good and bad.

Why have any laws at all? Criminals just break them. Think of all the crime we could eliminate if we just tossed out all the rules. Derp
