Fans turn violent in Lincoln

I usually stay out of Neb threads, but this was funny
It's weird, I spent the entire day yesterday in Lincoln. Was literally in a half a dozen bars, walked around tens of thousands of fans before and after the game, yet I didn't see anyone fighting or breaking car windows! The riots must have happened after 1am when I went to my hotel room...?
Seriously though I know we suck right now but don't lump an entire fan base in with a couple of isolated incidents.

First off I have lived in the Omaha area for 13 years. Here's my opinion on why Nebby fans are viewed this way.....
- When they joined the big the Nebby fans whom I knew strongly stated how they were going to dominate the BIG10 outside of "maybe" tOSU.
- Everyone and I mean everyone...Is sick of hearing about the 1990's. STOP.
- Bo Pelini.
- Tom Osborne is viewed as a GOD in this area to Nebby fans.....The Truth, he encouraged and covered up the steroid use that was rampant in the program. It's not a secret.....don't act like it is.
- GO BIG RED......GO BIG RED!!!! The most annoying chant in college sports.
- Bi-Polar fans. Win....we are awesome. Lose...Fire everyone.

- Everyone and I mean everyone...Is sick of hearing about the 1990's. STOP - God only knows how Iowa fans would act if they ever won anything of significance, but based on one 40-10 win over the huskers, they would talk about it glowingly for 100 years plus

That's just part of it.
1) He said the Nebby fans whom he knew. Perhaps you got confused because he correctly used the objective form of who? Or do you know the Nebby fans he knows? Oh, and to be honest, I heard a lot of Nebraska fans saying the same thing when they first joined the B1G. But please, set people straight on something anecdotal that you know to be "patently false."
2) If the standard for anything of significance is a national title, then yes, Iowa football has never won anything of significance. Frankly, since you will never hear a Hawkeye fan (at least a sane one) claim Iowa is a blue blood program (you know the caliber of program some Nebraska fans still think they have or are entitled to have by birthright), I would say Iowa winning a couple B1G titles, New Year's Bowls over Florida, LSU, and South Carolina and an Orange Bowl win over Georgia Tech, and 5 Top 10 finishes under Ferentz isn't too bad. I didn't even mention what Hayden Fry accomplished at Iowa. Btw, how's Illinois football doing lately?
3) Agreed on the bipolar remark being applicable to the Iowa fan base. Perhaps that is one advantage you have of being an Illinois football fan--must be hard to give a sh!t.

As someone who's lived in Nebraska for 20 years, both in Omaha and Lincoln, what was stated is about 90% true. I heard MANY more UNL fans claim supremacy before they even played their first game than ones who didn't. In fact, MANY thought going to the BIG10 was a step down (did they forget they played in the MAC...I mean, Big XII North?).What this arrogance was based on is the big mystery...
"Go Big Red!" is not the most annoying chant in college football (the chop is much, much worse). It's only annoying because the only thing "big" about Nebraska athletics is Women's Volleyball and it's been that way for a long, long time.
Yes, everyone outside of the red, myopic bubble that hovers over this state is sick of hearing about the 90s (laughing, actually). You say Iowa has not won anything of significance, but when does that apply to UNL? I would bet half of UNL's student population wasn't even alive the last time you won a championship...You don't see the mighty Golden Gophers thumping their chests for their dominance of the 1930s...We're kinda getting into that level of ridiculousness now.
Also, there is no jealousy. Simple logic comes into play here...What would Iowa fans have to be jealous about what Nebraska has done in the past 20 years? We've won far more meaningful games, been to BCS bowls and have simply had more success during the period. That would be even more evident if we played the weak conference schedule you enjoyed every year in the Big XII north.
They'll fire Riley to hire Frost and then they'll return to their former glory. I know because they say so.
I’ll stick up for Rockymtnhawk. I lived in Denver for many years, with the amount of Nebraskans there it’s a wonder that there’s anyone still living in Nebraska. They are loud, rude, in your face, annoying, delusional and arrogant. It doesn’t matter where you are, but they’re there being stupid. They actually MAKE you hate Nebraska. Even if you had never heard of Nebraska, you would end up hating them after living in Colorado for a while. That’s where the hate comes from.

Question.....Why would Scott Frost leave Central Florida? He's got a great gig, ranked 25th, great recruiting grounds, living in a beautiful area and most of all......doesn't have to deal with Stupid after every game. He will NOT return to Nebraska.
The novelty of knocking Nebraska fans while they're down has worn off for me.
Sure, to see a portion of their fan base suffer this year has it's humorous aspects...but that humor is borne out of Iowa sucking so bad at certain points in our lives - while they were riding high - that the pent up joy of their plight seems to forget that.
We claim to be better than them, yet we really aren't.
What goes around comes around...and this board every week shows we're not exactly the paragon of virtue here. There were times during the Illinois game where half of this board was going insane because Iowa wasn't up 60-0 in the second quarter. Patience is NEVER an internet virtue apparently.
Nebraska...I don't know what the cure for them is out here in the interwebz...they do (as all fan bases do) need to grow a collective thicker skin. Hell, Bama fans aren't really that happy after their showing yesterday. EVERY fan base is guilty as charged.
I also recognize the cyclical nature of college football. Nebraska football will be back at some point. And they will come over and piss all over this board when it happens. I hope we have grown a collective thicker skin by then.

I have personally spoken with your AD (Boomer Fnd) a few years ago. We were discussing estate planning . It was important to him because he was concerned about long term health. Why, he said all the ‘perf enhancers’ in college, pain killers in NFL, repeated head blows in college and NFL.
DR is a nice guy. They didn’t know better back then(staff nor players), and he didn’t blame. But, sorry, you are the one really wrong in reference to the Epply days
If I were Scott Frost I'd ask for a 10 year iron clad contract for at least $6.5 million a year. Whoever it is, the next Nebraska coach should get way more than they're worth because that's the only way a decent coach goes to Nebraska.
I watched the Neb-Wisco game with a Husker fan last night. It was interesting watching the struggle play out. The struggle going on with the acceptance that Nebraska Football is no longer a power. There are these highs and lows, moments of defiance recounting long past national titles, ranting that Wisconsin has never won anything, and then finally quite acceptance that the Badgers were pounding the Huskers in the way that Nebraska used to pound their old Big 8 rivals. It was actually kind of sad to watch and I refrained from piling on, this is tough enough on Husker fan.
I would also ask is Frost really the right coach for Nebraska? I think he's good but stylistically is that going to work in the B1G which is a grind it out, knock your head off league at its core? Nebraska should be what Wisconsin does.
I think it would work. The Oregon offense, at least in the past, has been like 60-65% run so it's run heavy, just more creative.

I would degree that both fan bases shouldn't be lumped into one category since it seems that both fan bases have douchebags that belong to the Troll Patrol. And it is nice to have fans from various bases they can have civilized and meaningful Forum discussions. Somehow the douchebags, like cockroaches always find their way in. Lol

LINCOLN - Police responded to a major disturbance at the Heidelberg's near 33rd and Superior Saturday night, after the Wisconsin-Nebraska football game.
They say the event itself went smoothly. However, Heidelberg's continued with their plan to hold an after-game party. Police sent 15 officers, many working overtime, to speak with owners and try to discourage them, but the bar had hired private security and did not cancel their event.
Police had to ask for every available officer in the City of Lincoln to respond to the incidents, including Nebraska State Patrol. There were 25 additional LPD officers called from across the city. Lincoln Police released a statement that it's, "Proof that Nebraska fans have finally become engrained in an important part of Big Ten football culture: beating Cornhuskers."

Meanwhile, the losing, pathetic, nice-guy coach was wearing all black.
