Cadets and Junior Mens freestyle are about to kick off this morning. A lot of you out there are track Iowa junior high and high school a lot closer than I do...any up and comers we should be looking at in U16s from team Iowa?

I don't follow the whole state very close anymore, but a kid that is local to me that is going to be a stud is Uriah Courter. He is at 88lbs for U16s. Hopefully he will grow into a full sized 106 this year. Either way he will make some noise as a freshman this upcoming season.

Should be lots of placers to follow, Chief.
Keep an eye on Broedy Collins Hendricks at 170. Heard some people speaking very highly of him.

Contenders:

94-Desalvo, Schwab(believe has Joe Dubuque's son 1st rd)

100-Landers, Crosson

113- Pearson, Youngblut

126- Riggins, Koester

138- Dhabolt

152- Miller, Knaack

170- Hendricks

195- Ross, Mickel may be the finals

285 - "little" Martinson

Riggins got beat.

Couldn't even wait 10 mins to prove that I have no idea what I'm talking about.....

F/A not the most intuitive to navigate, but it's all there. Trial and error and practice.
Yeah I’ve got it figured out for the most part. The thirty mats makes it a wee bit more daunting. I appreciate the help though.

Looks like they DQ'd little Voinovich. Was beating his guy and in the last 30 secs with forward pressure the guy fell back and rolled towards the edge, Little V runs after him and dives in for the TD and they hit heads. Other guy was laying there and Little V got back up and was fine. Seemed like the other guy was on his knees, head facing out and turns around to face him as V making his dive. Don't know if that should have been a DQ.

*I have no evidence to make this claim...but evidence is not needed these days when making baseless statements.

Watched it in slow motion. You are 100% correct. Kid stumbled, landed (basically) in referees position, with body parallel to out of bounds. Kael sees opportunity for push out or blast double. Starts his attack with kid facing sideways, targeting his left ribs for pushout. Kid turns in, during Kael's blast. Kid moves his head directly into Kael's forehead. Unfortunate event for the kid on ground, but that was not eggregious on Kael.. at all. He did what Jordan Burroughs has been doing for the last 10 years, with freight train attach on edge.
I have no idea how someone reviewing that would DQ him, and DQ him out of the tourney.

You broke it down better than I did. I also automatically thought of JB as well.

It's the bald judge at the bottom. Ref gives 1 to Voinovich, but bald guy calls them over to admonish Voinovich. Voinovich kind of shrugs his shoulders and smiles and walks away after and you can see the ref get mad at that and call the other two over and spend the next 10 minutes convincing them to DQ him. Shameful.

I believe M* and the staff are quite interested in the Cortez bros out of Gilroy CA (as are every other D1 coach). The larger one (126) lost his second match 4-4 to Indiana State Champ Jake Hockaday in the R64. The smaller one (120) won his first two. FWIW

I saw the same thing. The official on the mat didn’t make the call. Sometimes the lead matside official is a little full of himself.

How do they seed this meet? You would think two wrestlers with their resumes wouldn’t meet in R64. Are folkstyle results completely ignored?

Ryder up 2-0 and he tweaked his knee. I honestly don’t understand what he stands to gain by wrestling right now. They should pull him and get him healthy. I’m all for being tough but we’re gonna need this guy down the road.

I admire the kids toughness. Big fan of Ryder, but I want him to be healthy after his redshirt.

Block wins 17-5 but I’ll be surprised if the knee makes it through the tournament.

I’m sure he’s planning on redshirting, but I would think a relatively healthy year in the Iowa room would be more beneficial than having to rehab for a chunk of time. Maybe they assume he’s going to have to rehab so he might as well finish out the summer season. I’m sure he wants to wrestle. I just want him to be healthy down the road.
