Doesn't seem like this was talked about but 10 minutes prior to the dual today Mineo dropped this garbage tweet and later deleted it once he was made to look like a fool.

Guy truly is a pile of puke

My boss, every woman in my life, and now this board telling me this? I can't catch a break
If one person says you have a tail. Screw them, that person doesn’t like you. If two people say you have a tail, they’re just ganging up on you. If three people say you have a tail…look behind you.

Your boss, your woman, and now this board. That’s three…look behind you.

Maybe it was false info given out by the coaches/ to see who would take the bait and reveal themselves as a rat.
While I do love me some (musk)rat trapping, chasing rats isn't going to win wrestling or recruiting battles, so probably not worth the effort. But it can be enjoyable nonetheless.

I’m of the mind that Iowa should now sue this pos for slander. The philosophy of ignore and move on has not worked. Like it or not he is a known wrestling influencer, that pretends to be a journalist by breaking news stories. Occasionally he gets a few of his stories right, which adds to his credibility.

In lieu of his recent Twitter posts, Spencer Lee done for the year (which he himself claims to be a troll job) and the most recent one about further racist remarks made towards an Iowa State wrestler, I believe a liable suit for slander is in order.

If someone has influence over a group of people and makes remarks to disparage or hurt another group of people, without the ability to provide proof that is slander. In this particular instance he is slandering the U of I wrestling program.

If he wants to be a journalist and break stories for his site, then he should be held to the same standard. He will not call himself a journalist, he’ll say it’s entertainment or he’s a content creator. That is only a thinly veiled attempt to skirt the burden of proof for the wild allegations he makes towards this program.

Enough is enough!!

break stories for his site
I doubt his first Tweet about 'Spencer being done' was intended as an Iowa troll job. I think he just believed it from what he heard in his circles, despite any lack of credibility.

I have no doubt his deleting the Tweet and saying it was an Iowa Troll job, was one, along with a retraction of his recognized obvious error.

I think that's the most one can expect from Social Media like Twitter. Best to not follow that kind of source and not follow anyone who reTweets that kind of source -- to ignore until it has no audience, because only then it goes away.

I don’t care about the Spencer Lee tweet. I used it as an example to show how flippantly he uses his influence and how little he cares about being correct. That’s not slanderous. That’s just shitty reporting.

I care about the tweet he sent regarding Bastida, which was not founded by any evidence. He’s attempting to paint a picture that the Iowa wrestling program is racist, and has a history of racism without any consequences.

The reason this is slanderous is because of his following, and influence. Which like it or not he does have. This could potentially affect future recruits, coaches, and athletic directors.

The head coach of any sport at a public university is held to a higher standard than you or I 98lbs. So, if this narrative does catch on, and his claims remain unfounded, it directly affects Iowa’s ability to compete, and possibly the jobs of multiple people. In todays age, once a narrative starts it’s hard to stop it. With social media being a driving force to his business, and the truth being a distant second. The ignore and move on philosophy that’s currently being engaged has not worked.

I would get out in front of this, and sue for libel. I’m being a tad dramatic, but people have been fired for less.

I had no idea who this guy was before you posted this tweet, and I would've rather kept it that way.

tweet he sent regarding Bastida
Sorry, I didn't see that Tweet.

Edit: Now I saw it. In that thread someone, who appears open about their identity on Twitter and is purportedly from West Des Moines, says they were at Carver and heard the phrase shouted. So I can't see a case for slander.

I wouldn’t call that evidence of anything. Theres widespread belief that the least reliable testimony is eye witness testimony. It’s almost entirely disregarded in todays court cases because it’s so often wrong.

I know many people that were there, i unfortunately had to miss this one. I’ve asked everyone if they heard it. They said no they did not. Still with them saying this, I can’t be certain it wasn’t said. Yet another reason, this particular narrative is dangerous. The uncertainty. Benefit of the doubt is often given to the accuser in situations like these (as it should be) but the microphone used to give voice to this particular accusation has proven himself to be an unreliable source when reporting on Iowa.

I believe a pattern has been established. If I were legal counsel for the University of Iowa I would have a long hard discussion about how to proceed.

I’m sure my voice is in the minority here, but in my experience, the longer the leash the more baseless claims that are made. This clown has a voice and he does have some influence in the wrestling community. If you do not think that this claim, and this narrative, has potential future fallout then you are just plain wrong.

Anyway, back to wrestling.

back to wrestling
Agreed.

I believe the claim and narrative could have potential future fallout. I also believe denying the possibility that it could be true (similar to a prior event) vice speaking out against it, regardless of whether it actually occurred, isn't the best way to prevent negative fallout.

To be clear, I don't broadly characterize all Iowa fans or its program based on what a single or few fans might shout. And I don't think most wrestlers would. Rather it would be a general response to the charge, denial or silence vs condemnation of the possibility, that I think might cause a wrestler or their family to take pause.

It's not slander, it's libel. Slander is oral while libel is print. I was actually permanently banned from his FB page when I responded to one of his rants with the definition of libel. It was either a DeSanto accusation or the Larry Lee tampering accusation. Can't remember.

He is also apparently very proud of his claim that the Iowa fan base is the easiest to troll. You would think a "content creator" would be more concerned with creating objective material for more fans to get involved with. He just throws crap at the wall to see if anything sticks and to get reactions from all those other fan bases who hate all things Iowa. And of course, the reaction from Iowa fans.

Sheesh. Let's just say Mineo's source in the Hawkeye room, especially w.r.t. medical information is just plain abysmal.

No string of predictions has done more damage to his already tattered reputation for 'scoups' than his stop the presses moments tied to the Hawkeyes.

It's starting to look like the Brands' might be just having a little fun.

Mineo just tweeted the allied invasion of France is guaranteed to happen at the Pas de Calais.

Tom & Terry are playing Uno, while Mineo is stuck playing Go Fish.

His entire MO is to throw out shit and block anyone who calls him on it. Been that way a long time.

He was right: Spencer wasn't even close to ready and was rushed out there. He was dead on his feet gassed after 2 minutes and it was very fortunate that was a back up He was wrestling.
