I vividly remember the days of the gray team under Tom Davis.

BJ Terrones is really the only one I am coming up with. I know there were others but can't remember if they were specifically members of the gray team.

Had a kid on my dorm floor that was a grey team member. For the life of me, can't remember his name. He got into a game in the non-conference and scored a point. We decorated his door and celebrated with him when he returned after the game.

My favorite grey team member would be Darryl Moore.

Was Galloway really a gray team member? I thought he was kind of a preferred walk-on who didn't "need" a basketball scholarship because he was a presidential scholar and had an academic scholarship.

Galloway was a recruited walkon. He likely would have played at a midmajor without his academic scholly.

Different than a normal gray teamer.

I would emphasize his strength and rebounding technique were amazing for his size plus hustle and BBIQ.

classic.. you cant always judge a player by a rank. I love these type of players in the past & present. Nicholas Baer is the all-time Hawkeyes unsung poster boy coming out of high school. Moore obviously different physically but much in the mode of a Baer...

Nick Baer will take the mantle of best walkon from Darly Moore soon if he hasn't already.

Difference is that Fran knew about Baer before he got here and planed on him being on the team. Davis staff discovered Moore playing pick up games in the field house.

Yeah, some people seem to be forgetting that under Dr. Tom you had to try out and make the team every year. This was different than guys like Galloway or Baer who were essentially preferred walk on's. Granted recruiting was not as in-depth as it is now where pretty much every player is a known commodity. Does iowa have any non-recruited walk on practice players right now?

I preface this that this is not a slight to Fran.

Imagine Baer on a Dr Tom team, and do you see a difference in role or playing time?

He fits both systems well and I'm not trying to start a debate about the 2 coaches. I love them, both.

I dont see much of a difference other than Davis pressing was just different than Frans 3/4 court trap.

Both coaches sub allot of guys in and out.

Not sure Fran knew that much about Baer......he watched him play a game or 2 at state tournament after his sister approached Fran. So the story goes I believe.

Brett Olson

never beat him in 4 years of high school, made him look good enough at tryouts to make the team, the lanky sob... :)

he was on the team 90-91 and 91-92
