Fear mongering

Yes, what is wrong with Zero tariffs between every country? Put it into words instead of just repeating yourself.

I will check back tomorrow as I am going to watch a movie with the wife. Enjoy.
Ask Trump.

Or just gargle his junk as you have been.

And that "ultimate goal" is the exact opposite of Trump's goal yet you defend his actions.

You're too stupid to realize the incongruencies of your statements.
Tell me what you think his "ultimate goal" is?

Does he want to use tariffs to create income for the US.......heck ya. Does he want other countries tariff rate to be the same or lower then ours our on them.......yes. He has been clear about this.....but all you can do is call other people stupid because they understand things you can't.

I know what Trump is doing...exactly what he said he was going to do.

BTW, why don't you tell us all how you and your flailing party would handle China.....you know, beside what you are all doing right now, which is gargling Xi's junk.

Crash the economy and alienate long time allies? Great job. Glad you got what you wanted.

He’s been clear on tariffs? He’s given us like 8 different reasons for them, started them, paused them, started them again, created some ridiculous chat GPT formula, got rid of that, pissed off former allies so much they were prepared to crash the bond market, etc , etc, etc.

Nothing has been clear with this at all.

Ummmm.... you threw out "ultimate goal" as Trump's motivation. SMFH

Again, what is the "ultimate goal"?

Tell me you have no plan......by telling me you have no plan. Got it.

BTW, the market is down approximately 5.12% from 1/1/25. Not a crash yet. And, we have our top 14 allies (many who have screwed us over for years with tariffs) coming to the table saying they want to work with us on fair trade. And, many of these "allies" rely on our military protection as well.

I have said all along that this could blow up. I am full aware of what China is trying to do with the bond market, and that is scary for sure. But, that would also be hard on them.

Now, I will give you one more chance. What plan would you and your party have to deal with China on trade and our COMPLETE reliance on them for almost everything?

Yes, he has been clear on tariffs. Unless you have lived under a rock you would know this. For pete sakes, he told Oprah of all people in the 80's how unfair trade was for our country and what should be done to spure on talks. We now have 14 of our main allies working with us on fair trade deals. That is a major positive.

Oh, and as of this AM, China is now saying they want talks.

Good grief. I already told you what his "Ultimate goal" was with this statement, "Zero tariffs would be the ultimate goal. Fair trade across the board.".

Now, I will ask you (again) what you think his ultimate goal really is? Do you think he is truly trying to detroy the US economy....for no reason? Tell me what you think his goal is? Or, like you and your friends have been doing all along, and ignore the question.

Trump, again, inherited a robust economy (WSJ) with a record stock market, low unemployment, rising wages, 3% inflation and steady growth. Just like in 2016. Let's not pretend everything was in shambles and needed a total overhaul. You would not be being truthful if you make that claim. There was absolutely no need to swing a sledgehammer, not only on China, but globally. His plan is foolish, leading to uncertainty in the global markets and will drive up costs on the lower and middle classes.

Maybe, just maybe, a more nuanced approach would have been wise. Diplomacy and compromise is dying in American government and is dead in the GOP. China won't be bullied. Democrats understand that. Working within the established and respected norms gets things accomplished.

SMFH - when has Trump EVER suggested his ultimate goal is zero tariffs? You just make shit up, get caught doing it and then spin the shit further.

His goal is power and control for himself. Period.

If you've asked this before I missed it. Probably because I often skip your posts knowing they will be complete nonsense.

I can tell you that’s 100% incorrect.

His own formula that was created takes trade deficits into consideration. His goal is not and has never been 0% tariffs.

Now this is a great response and one that I see has merit. Thanks.

For the record, I never said Trump did not inherit a good economy. That was never my contention. I do agree that he could have been more "gentle" in his approach to this. Maybe bring leaders in for a summit to explain in person why he wanted to do the tariffs and see if they could have worked it out. Although, in truth I don't think China was ever going to give in without being pushed. They have promised over and over since joinin the WTO that they would not screw with trade....and they always have.

Shake your head all you want. He has said FAIR trade for a long time. 30 years ago, before he even thought about politics. Now, if that means both sides come to the agreement that it is zero tariffs, then great.

You simply have no basis for anything you say. You spew hate at anyone who wants the man to succeed and never contribute anything of worth to a conversation. And,, yes you have missed it because you can't read completely through your TDS. So, sg ahead and skip my post....I could not care less. LOL.

Hawkman, there is no plan he is flying by the seat of their pants and things haven’t done the way they expected. No one is cowing to him, and the economy is cratering, with what appears the primary goal of lowering interest rates has backfired. He will go down as one of the top 3 worst presidents ever, if not the worst. He starts a ne Great Recession or depression, over this, it will be the worst self inflicted economic disaster in the history of the US.

You are 100% wrong. He instituted the tariffs to get things moving and talks going.

His goal was to create fair trade across the board. Look up his clips where he talks about it. He literally just 12 days ago lauded that Vietnam was open to zero tariffs. And he was thrilled about it.

Trump excited about zero tariff talk from Vietnam leader

Where is your proof?

Bunsen,

Last week, all the Dems and their media said that we would be in free fall way before today. Right now, things are stable. 14+ countries are now in talks for trade deals. And, Xi now wants to talk as well. This is all positive.

I know it can all go south fast. The bond market is scary as heck as well. I do see it. I want to believe that this will turn out positive. This is the greatest country world history and I know whatever happens, we will be able to get out of it....with or without Trump.

Again, the formula, and all of his rhetoric about trade deficits.
The formula only had to do with the initial push to get countries to come to the table. That is all. He already dropped them when countries did that. And, we had trade deficits with nearly all our "friends". That is not rhetoric, that is fact. Believe it or not, many, many people are behind him on this.

It’s stable for now, just because the slowdown hasn’t gotten into the numbers yet. Investment down drastically, airlines down domestically and internationally, Nividia got whacked for 2 fold issue, not allowed to sell at all to China and brought manufacturing back to US where much more expensive. Many internationals will see increased costs no matter what happens, with decreased international demand. The only thing holding the stack of cards up so far is employment and that can go by the wayside quickly. Employment down, purchasing power goes down, and we will be in a spiral for a while.

He dropped them when our bond market nearly imploded. We don’t need to rewrite history here.

The only people behind him on this are those within his administration and the MAGA sphere. I know of no one outside of that who has expressed support. Trump has proven again and again that he does not understand tariffs, who pays them and how they affect economies.

Watching my retirement savings quickly dwindle due to the whims of one arrogant and ignorant man is infuriating. Watching others excuse his actions solely due to political loyalty is even moreso.

Trump could be have said for 30 years he wanted to use tariffs for a stated goal, and then done just that, but that doesn’t mean he understood the negative consequences of what he wanted to do or whether what he wanted to do would accomplish his goals. Throw in his flip flopping inconsistency, and taking a sledgehammer to the world’s mouth when he only needed to drill and fill a couple of cavities, and this is what you get.

I am not saying what you are pointing too will not occure, only that it was supposed to have already happened. Trade deals are being made right now. Even after yesterday's dip, the market is still down only 5%China is hurting. We have put ourselves in this position for 30 years of letting China be our (and the worlds) factory. Unless something is done, they will use that at some point to bring us to our knees. You think this is bad.......pray that never happens in full.

Again, the formula, and all of his rhetoric about trade deficits.
Again, the formula was shown the day he came out and instituted the tariff's. The formula and his rhetoric does not prove he was not pushing for free and fair trade. You may not like his method (and I wish he had been more measured as Nole pointed out) for pushing for free and fair trade, but I have not seen any proof that this was not his goal.

Let me ask you this. If he was not really pushing for free and fair trade, what would be his goal for instituting the tariffs and talking tough?

Look, we saw the same flip flopping with the prior administration on issues. The fact is, he is the first President that is trying to do something about this. It is a positive that countries are coming to the table and that China wants to talk. The market is down 5% from the start of the year. That is not great, but not a crash.....yet.

The S&P500 is down just shy of 20% from its highs. Everything that I have said has occurred. Companies hate to let go of labor, so that is the last thing to fall. China is looking to deals with our allies to try to gain more global reach because we are treating our allies like crap. I can realistically say we can have a recession or a depression. Your statement on China is merely a hypothetical and we have had tariffs on them for over 5 years. It’s not as if we have been giving them free rein.

I was slightly off. As of April 16, 2025, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) has declined by approximately 6.76% since January 1, 2025
You should pick either when he was elected or the date he took the presidency. Also what has the S&P500 or the Nasdaq done?

I don’t know. He’s used like 8 different excuses for tariffs at this point. You’re picking the one you think makes sense.

I don’t think he makes sense on this issue so I can’t be bothered to try and decipher him. I can only look at what he’s done and what he’s said.

Why are you including Biden's time in office as a bench mark, and not the peak market value before Trump starting flapping his gums about tariffs? You know, how wall street measures bear and bull markets? The S&P is down about 14% from peak.

We are the leader in the world market. China already supplies most of the world with imported goods. They cannot exist in their economy without the US markets and consumers and they cannot replace us with other countries. The United States accounts for about 24–25% of global GDP...let that sink in. What tariffs did we really have on China before Trump started in his first term?

What is wrong with you. We have had this convo. What does tariffs on Europe or Canada have to do with China. 140% tariffs is a lot more than Trump had on his 1st term. Throwing the baby out with the bath water generally isn’t a good strategy. You are claiming it’s ok screwing up the economy and world wide economy because you think China has wronged us.
