Feels like an Alford team

Like most of the Iowa teams ranked high to start, they struggle to back it up. That's what made the 2015-16 team reaching #3 and #1 in Kenpom for a too brief a spell so special, they even lost three games (to future NCAA tourney teams of course) before they went on their mini run and rose up the rankings on actual performance, not preseason hype. We see the same trend in Iowa football. But really if you aren't a blue blood that regularly starts high and finishes high because of multiple opportunities, I'd imagine that's pretty consistent across the board for most schools where it's a rarity. It stands out much more when it doesn't happen very often.

True, Alford teams were sure to get blown out vs athletic teams and choke vs lessor teams. Usually NIT bound or blown on in NCAA 1st round.

I don't think those Alford teams had a huge amount of talent and the benches were usually not good.

This is the most talent Fran has had, most depth, and he's got the best player in NCAA b-ball on his team. If he can't win B1G title this year with Garza, he is never going to win a B1G title at Iowa.

I was pissed when the Hawks playing keep away gave the ball back to our worst FT shooting guard. (Who nearly turned it over) Why aren’t they conditioned to get it to Jbo or Weezy. Anyway, they totally shit the bed at the end there, it did have a tinge of Alford disappointment...

and why didn't JoeT pass it ahead to another player who was open? Maybe because of his quick foot travel move

Shame on all of you who mentioned the “A” word.

If you do not have really good guards, even with the best player in the country on your team, your success will be limited. It is so much easier to slow down a big then guards. If your perimeter players are not making shots, it makes it that much easier to clog the lane and make it difficult for a post to score.
