*****-fficial I-wa vs Nevada Game Thread*****

27-0, Ferentz makes subs on offense but keeps Petras out there. You'd think he'd want next years QBs to get some snaps when the opportunities arise. If I were Padilla or Labas I'd be looking to transfer.
I’m sure you would

Looked like a week 1 type performance for the offense.

Kaleb Johnson was the only bright spot.
Bruce and Regani has a couple nice grabs

GOTTA figure out the Oline. Spencer MIGHT be serviceable with excellent blocking.

Brian called a good game. Keeping the level of opponent in mind.

Defense and special teams just do their things

Looking at the remaining schedule if we went 3-6 I think that would be about as good as it could get and more likely 2-7. Pisspoundings coming vs. Michigan, Ohio State, Minnesota (hard to type that one, but I think it's coming) Wisconsin, and probably find a way to get beat by Purdue again. I just don't see anything better than 3-6 with this incompetent of an offense - OL and Petras are abysmal. So if we go 4-7 and miss a bowl do you think KF would make any changes? I don't.

If Kirk believes Petras is the guy he’s going to give him 100% of the reps bc god knows he needs them.

That's football.

Takeaways:
Van Ness is a stud.
Stevens is our kicker.
Kaleb Johnson may be the best RB on the team.
Bruce, Keagan, and Ragaini could probably average 100 ypg if they were the Purdue QB's favorite target.
Petras was just bad instead of abysmal.
The O-Line still sucks.
Gavin Williams can get some tough yards but seeing very little big play threat there. Petras high end is average with a great o-line. Bad is the high end with this o-line. This o-line is worthless, they take turns missing blocks and rotate guys in so they can get in on it too. I don't know if it's the schemes, Barnett or the talent level. I personally think Barnett is bad and the zone scheme isn't especially easy to get going well if you don't have the right players. I'd like to see a lot more non zone stuff available so guys can play simple and fast.

Yeah....maybe that's it. It would be nice though to have even a glimmer of a sense that all those reps are actually generating any semblance of consistent improvement. Today (the past two days?) he was not terrible. But even against an overmatched opponent he was barely over 50% completions (14/26), and nearly half of his yards (86 of 175) came on two passes...one of which was the TD where he tried his best to overthrow an absolutely wide open Bruce, making him unnecessarily lay out for the catch, and the other a gross under throw that would have been picked if not for Nico's herculean efforts. A win is a win....but wins will be harder to come by from here on out if "not terrible" is the pinnacle of play you can rely on from your QB.

Some other surprising results yesterday. Lot of teams going to have a rough season besides Iowa.

Who says either Padilla or Labas are next year's QB?
