This is all just semantics. The American educational grading system has warped people's interpretation of "average". We are subconsciously used to 70% being average.

This is the same reason why someone talks about a movie they don't like and give it a 6/10.
 
It all depends on expectations.
The “Average Big Ten WBB” team will make the NCAA and be in the top 68 teams.
If you then take the average of Big Ten teams in the tournament, you get about 30s.

And why has the educational system fostered that approach?
 
I wasn’t casting any judgement on schools. Just making the observation that we are all used to 70% being average because a thing we all did growing up used that number.

What is average then? Not being a dick, but seriously is it that hard to get a C? I got pretty much straight A’s through 9th grade with an occasional B, never studied much and always turned in homework late. By the time I was a Jr I’d become pretty anti-authoritarian and tired of being grounded for B’s….Then I really started putting very little effort into it and still got Bs/Cs….id say thats pretty average 🤷‍♂️
