Finebaum

He must really hate the big 10. Dudes an SEC guy advocating for the big 12. The South will not rise again.

I now have an official man- crush on Joey Galloway. He blew Finebaum out of the water. " Iowa doesn't give up 90 yard untouched runs like the Big 12 does". Lol!

I loved that as well although Joey does not quite have our offensive formations correct this year.

Yeah it was getting heated, but Galloway, and the other guy who's name eludes me, have respect. To be fair Galloway is a big 10 guy, and has actually seen the games.

I have to tell you that half the fun now will be the Hawks winning the next game and the following Tuesday listening to Finebaum and Booger key saying stupid shit. Hell we might move a spot back this week but we keep winning they are going to get more and more upset.

Yeah, Finebaum clearly hasn't watched us play...major props to Galloway for the respect. But frankly, I'm with Herbie, I'm not sure why Oklahoma St. came in at #8. Even though it seemed like Herbie was bagging on us a little, I think Oklahoma State does deserve to be higher than us with the best win and in dominate fashion between undefeated teams.

Let's just remember, as awesome as #5 is this week, we could be #7 next week despite winning. Bottom line of what today proved is that an undefeated Iowa WILL be "in."

Personally I think Hawk fans should just flood his phone lines tomorrow. I mean flood, so nobody else can call in and he has to talk about Iowa for three hours just to torture him.

IT'D BE LIKE A REAL LIFE HROT ROAD TRIP!

I am in, I am not working

My guess is the 8 is because they beat TCU but is TCU any good? They haven't played anyone and neither has OSU so its hard to judge. If TCU finishes 8-4 is that a good win? It's too early to tell for the committee.

Yeah, I don't see how our Bowl game has anything to do with this year. If you go by that thinking MSU should be ranked ahead of Baylor cause they beat them in last years bowl game. Ohio St. should be number 1 cause they won it all last year.

Do I think Iowa could beat Ohio St. in the championship game, yes if they play a great game and OSU comes out flat but I think OSU wins that matchup 8 outa 10 times. I think we have a 50-50 shot against everyone else from the east, but now after listening to everyone get butthurt that we are ranked 5 I want Iowa to win it all and at any costs. If we gotta cheat or sneak Scherff and Bulaga back onto the line to do it we need to just to shove it in these a-holes face.

By the way, Alabama is a hell of a team but when did THEY become flashy? I am not comparing us with them but not being flashy should not mean lack of respect. Win all your games, balanced offense, solid defense, win TO battle, solid special teams..... Ok, so we are not flashy. I could give a sheet.

Don't think we go lower than 6th. Baylor will jump us with a win vs Oklahoma, but okie state plays ISU. Then they play next week, which will result in 1 ahead, and 1 below.

But Iowa lost to Tennessee last year......

what an idiot! and he is an "expert" on this panel where millions are tuning in???? Good job, ESPN!

Great tweet by Mark Morehouse. Fienbaum is holding the pitchforks of all pitchforks.

Iowa this year is the spaceship that landed in everyone's backyard. Some people greet with pitchforks. Others want to see what's inside

Finebaum dismisses Stanford's loss to Northwestern as insignificant because it was early in the season, and then he brings up Iowa's bowl loss from last season?!?

Excellent point. But you forgot that the Stanford loss at NW was at 9:00 a.m. pacific time. This fact, alone, nullifies the loss. No team should ever be expected to perform to its ability at 9:00 a.m.

Honestly, when someone says that Iowa isn't "flashy" that just tells me they haven't watched Iowa play since 2012 and really have no idea what they are talking about. Iowa has plenty of big plays this season and if they are a ton of fun to watch.

I was thinking the same thing, bio. What exactly makes a team more "flashy" than another? It's not like Iowa is all 3 yards in a cloud of dust. We throw it as much as we run it -- we're about as balanced as can be offensively. CJ slings the ball around quite a bit. We've broken big runs and completed quite a few bombs. Our QB and even our TE's can score their TD's by leaping over defenders into the end zone. Our defense is aggressive, fast, and hard-hitting. They're a lot of fun to watch. Our special teams are great, and King is an electric return guy. Kirk is a riverboat gambler this year. We've faked field goals and gone for lots of 4th downs.

What's so boring about Iowa football this season? Seriously, is Alabama any more "flashy"? They run a similar offensive scheme. Sure, they're loaded with talent, but seriously, what do they, or any number of other top teams, do that's any more "flashy" or "sexy" than Iowa? Not very darn much.

This knock on Iowa is largely myth. I think it's code for the fact that our roster isn't loaded with 4- and 5-star recruits. It bothers some of the talking heads that a blue-collar team from the midwest is kicking tail this year and has a great shot at running the table. Pretty much that simple, IMO.

Didn't Michigan shift two time zones that same week to lose to Utah??? They never made a case for Michigan...

I think another reason that some of these "experts" don't like, is that Iowa was nowhere to be seen in the preseason rankings so they can't understand how they can be so good to be this highly ranked now. That is obvious from this fool's comment about the Tennessee bowl loss.

TCU is #15, OSU beat them at home. NW is #18, we beat them on the road. Do they really have the more impressive win?

Yes, TCU was ranked #8 and they've only lost one game. Add they had a top heisman contender that committed 4 TO's to the team in question. So pardon me if that was a rhetorical question, but I'd say a general agreement by most would say absolutely yes.

I don't agree. TCU has been overrated all year and hasn't played anyone.

Finebaum is a blowhard. He's a SEC guy and they don't even pretend to watch or care about anything outside of the SEC. If they had their way, the SEC could replace the AFC South and still be the best conference in all of football.

I wish someone would point out how weak the SEC East is... Florida just beat Vanderbilt 9-7 at FLORIDA. That's the worst team in the division holding a 7-6 lead with under 3 minutes left in the game... U. G. L. Y.

What division is better/weaker? Match ups according to positioning:

Florida vs Iowa -- Would be a good matchup on a neutral field, but Iowa's offense is better than UF's while UF's defense is as good if not better than Iowa's. -- pick em

Georgia vs Wisconsin -- Two teams very good defensively, I like Wisky's offense over Georgia's... slight advantage Wisky

Tennessee vs Northwestern -- Tenn gave Alabama, UF, Oklahoma, all they could handle... NW beat Stanford Duke Nebby and PSU... hard to say pick em but I feel like maybe advantage Tenn.

Kentucky vs Illinois -- depends which Illinois team shows up...the one that played Iowa looked pretty good, the one that played PSU not so much ... pick em

Nebraska vs Vanderbilt -- Vandy has a pretty good defense but lost 34-0 to Houston so it can't be that good... Nebraska may be coming out of their funk.... I'd take Nebraska in this game on a neutral field.

Mizzou vs Minnesota -- I think Minnesota is probably better but let's call it pick em

South Carolina vs Purdue -- both are a mess but Purdue has a coach... slight advantage Boilers?

I guess it all depends on what you want the narrative to be....
