#FireFran!

Do It Conan Obrien GIF by Team Coco

I hope he's fired. Next year is going to be Brutal playing Fran Ball and who knows what we'll have left on the roster after spring Portal.

Another year of a lame duck coach that is only trying to get his paycheck and really only wants to be watching his boy Jack play is going to be tough. Carver might only average 3000 fans next year.

He lucked into Garza and Murray right around the time he probably should have been leaving.

Then after doing nothing with the best player in the country two years in a row he should have been let go.
Its actually worse than that.

Keegan might not have been the best player in the country his sophomore year, but he was definitely up there on the list.

This is 100% accurate. There was very little reason to keep him after the Richmond fiasco and even less after Kris Murray left. Thank heavens we don’t have a total dipsh*t for an A.D. anymore, so there will be some excitement/hope surrounding the MBB program again with the new hire in the next 1-2 months.

Stats don't lie, but I was actually going by how he was seen (or not seen) by the national media that season.

He was obviously a known quantity and got some street cred, but I don't remember him being mentioned by most talking heads as the best overall player.

This has been one of my main criticisms of Fran. He managed — through luck or whatever — to get a few of the best players in college basketball but was never able to build a supporting cast. Luka, the Murray boys, Dev Marble, often were left to compete by themselves. Opponents were able to target them and didn’t have to worry about the rest of the team. How much better could the Iowa program have been with a complementing lineup?

Weezy too (one of best in B1G)

Given that Fran’s buyout goes down on April 1 (no fooling), I can see 1.4 million reasons why Beth would not fire Fran on March 10, but wait until 4/1.

While not ideal, this could work as long as she is talking behind the scenes to her top candidates (once their respective teams seasons are over).

Gard has had a lot of success at Wisconsin...7 tournament appearances out of ten and an NIT final. Several sweet 16 years, quite a bit better than the Hawks.
He had 2 Sweet 16’s….more than 7 years ago. I think we’ve won 2 tourney games in the last 7 years.

It's actually worse than that imo.

He had Garza, Joe Weiskamp and both Murrays on one team and still managed to accomplish basically nothing.

I can't believe I keep reading this stupid sh*t.

Do you realize that BG could announce TODAY that Fran is terminated effective 4/1 and start interviewing coaches tomorrow?

I’m sure that after 50 plus years of near total irrelevance, our beloved Hawks will just routinely jump to the Elite Eight or Sweet 16 with some mid-major level coach. It’s not Fran, it’s the U of I. But go ahead and fire him just for the fun of it, or to get your feelings uplifted. That’s society today.

True. She didn't wait until season's end to announce that Brian Ferentz was done at the end of the year. Could do the same with Fran. I know some people are insisting that he's done, but I'm not totally convinced.

LOL, ISU didn't seem to have an issue with suddenly getting to Sweet 16s with regularity. Was that program historically any more relevant than Iowa?

How about Wisconsin with Bo Ryan?

Fran has to go.

“….routinely jump to the Elite Eight or Sweet 16”

I’m willing to give the next coach a reasonable amount of time to show up ….. something less than 15 fvcking years….. 4/5 years seems reasonable.

Routinely making the Sweet16 - every year - is not a legitimate expectation in any event. A multiple decades absence is an abject failure. Iowa should expect at least occasional appearances past the 2nd Round.

100% correct. When he recruited two legacy Brothers that no one and I mean no one wanted…..I think most thought he was done for sure! It really is incredible that both brothers are playing in the NBA….not to mention they are great/humble kids…

If Beth doesn’t fire Fran after years of subpar results and terrible attendance then she isn’t the AD Iowa needs. We had that with Barta

Actually, its both.

Even so, to think that 15 years and only 1 BTT title & no NCAA Tournament success whatsoever, to show for all that time isn't worth making a move on replacing him is ...

Insert Gatens as interim the last two games, send a message to the fans and others that Iowa means business and won’t tolerate this crap from someone leading a revenue generating sport.

Fran doesn’t deserve a farewell game at Carver. And I honestly doubt he even cares if he has one.
