Reports please. Don't worry about the "you can't tell anything crowd". I'm interested in the floor speed and reaction time for the new guys. Who is playing physical and who is not. I presume several of our bigs will be taking threes. Do any of the returning bigs look like they've improved from outside?

I want to know everything. Period.

It's the time of year when you can allow yourself imagine the best of what is, essentially, a meaningless and entertaining league.

We pretty much know who will thrive and who will lead categorically. And the best talent will look like just that.

I do think you can foresee something in the newest faces, be it footwork or speed or shot selection or shot %.

But, Andrew Fleming. That's all.

Still, I love to dream that the inflated stats COULD come true.

Guys...guys...guys...it is the PTL! The rosters this year are as weak as ever. There will be better games on campus at the Rec today than in North Liberty. Remember a little guy from Dugger, Indiana going for 54 back in the day and everyone thought he was the next coming....slow sports time for sure, but pump the brakes.

The little guy helped the Hawks win the tournament title, though. If you don;t want to watch, just don't go and shut up about it.

Possibly heading there for the first time. What is the seating situation, as I'll have a toddler...?

Bleacher type seating, hard plastic in the main seating area, metal at the end of the court. Some people bring folding/lawn type chairs and line the wall on the far side.

Air conditioned, which is very nice.

It tends to fill up, so you might want to get there a half hour early. The second game will probably be packed as it will feature the two new recruits and be the only game going at that time slot.

I also would like to hear/read all observations. On every player. In as much depth as you can muster.

I know two people can watch exactly the same thing and have different points of view. That's fine. Bring it. Then when there is unanimous agreement, that provides another perspective.

Thank you in advance!

Can you watch a guy run and tell if he is quick?
Can you tell how high a guy can jump when he jumps? (Which I don't give a crud about)

I think by now we all know my friend that the PTL isn't a Food and Drug Inspection Center. It's not a laboratory filled with forensic scientists finding every little detail for the case.

But dang, this is like June 18th and there is a little to garner, plus it is the Hawkeyes!

Were it my choice, we would have a burning bright light message across the top of the board, "It's just the PTL!", just incase some poor hermit wanders in from fifteen years in a cave, alone. But otherwise, we got this. Some of us just want to hear about our Hawkeyes.

Besides, it's June 18th. Players get better or worse and there are many ways to evaluate them. But, it's June 18th, this is what we've got. Not just us but prepare for this place, and Hawk Central, and others to have interviews and highlights because it is June 18th and this is what we've got.

The PTL is a great contribution to BBall in Iowa. Its the only place in Iowa where DI, P5 players are squaring off with officials and uniforms. You can tell a lot about the guys. High quick and high they jump, foot speed, jump shooting.

Randy ought to post a couple of days after the line so geezers like me could see the whole games.

Let's not forget this tasty little piece in the USA Today paper:

https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...eague-basketball-iowa-northern-iowa/30290703/

I mean, in some small way it is a selling point to recruits if it attracts media at all. The thing is valuable, fun, and is the closest way I know of for fans to be next to players in a joint meeting of what is Iowa Basketball.

Could it use some overhauls? Sure, I've thought that the split locations has made it tougher for players to get to games. But I don't know how that can be fixed. The old days, UNI was happy to travel to Iowa City. Not now.

But at once, the PTL is a neat little thing and the guys are also lifting weights and getting workouts done in the summer, and taking summer courses. And this year there is the big overseas trip. And often our guys are at camps, or playing for international teams, or now...playing baseball. So obviously it isn't like this PTL thing is top billing for summer efforts. But it is also a big thing. It is a family of fans and players and fits perfectly into the atmosphere of recruiting which Fran and Staff have created.

If they could have charity bake sales in the hall, with Margaret McCaffery's Apple Dessert? If they could have three point contests and dunk contests and why not somebody figure out a way to have enough players for an Ex-Iowa All Stars team every year!

The thing is fun. It's not the only summer league and that should say something as to it's value. And heck with it yeah, it should have games saved on YouTube or streamed live. And fans should be sports reporters and expert player evaluators for a few weeks in the summer.

I think, we're spoiled. We've had this since Dr. Tom and what would June and July be without it?

Naturally, I can't wait to hear about the two new bigs, but I really anticipate hearing if Dailey, Williams, and even Moss, have stepped up their games.

Kriener looks good. Dom is same. Couple of Cook monster dunks. Moss is getting points and Nick is his usual awesome self

Half 80-47.

LL Pelling incredible shooting performance, especially from 3.

I believe Bohannon has 6 threes and Kriener 4.

Christian Williams appears to be nursing some type of hip or groin injury. Playing, but not at full speed.

Nunge first shot offensive tip in.

Garza first shot...swish 3 from top of key.

These new guys are very tall and very long.

Garza runs better than I was led to believe. He also has an excellent shot. 7 pts in the first 5 min.

6:21 to go. 84-83.

Garza can really score. Has hit 2 threes and has a lot of moves inside. Nunge struggling to guard him in the post. I think Garza's defense will determine how much he plays.

Nunge is skilled and has great hands. Needs to get stronger and work on defense. Also needs to keep that 6'11" body closer to the hoop IMO and not hang out on the perimeter so much.

Very excited about these two new guys.

Dailey is still very slight of build, but can score when he needs to. Has hit several 3's and can get to the hoop, but rarely forces anything.

Ellingson has looked good. Hit numerous 3's and has passed well.

Brody Boyd??? He wasn't the second coming? I heard he was with the ladies in the dorms back in the day

Any shotblocking going on in the Garza/Nunge game?

I was far more impressed with Nunge than Garza.
Not sure why someone thought Nunge was not strong as that was what I was most impressed with.
Thought he was a better 5 than Garza, as well as having the handles of a 2/3.

In watching the Indiana state tournament, I saw thar Nunge was offensively talented, but he needed a lot of work on the defensive end. Mostly with reaching and not moving his feet.

A poster in the lounge thought that Nunge was playing "lockdown defense".. so yes we do see a lot of varying opinions in PTL play.
