First Portillo's in Iowa......

The irony of his take is I literally posted on Portillo's twice in, like, two years.

Once to say "Hey, cool, Portillo's is actually coming to Davenport."
The second time to say. "Hey, cool, Portillo's is now actually open- has anyone tried it."

I am SO flexing on this amazing status symbol!!
By using the term flexing I know you have a teenager. My son asked me the other day if I was flexing about something.

Go start another thread on QC Style Pizza.

I get it, you like bragging about where you live. It is cool that you love it.

If you can't see the inherent self-deprecation and hyperbole in those posts, I don't know what to say. That IS the joke!

At any rate, if you are looking for a LEGIT thing regarding restaurants to bag on Iowans about, I found a good one for you. This is actually hilariously sad:

Does torbee like QC pizza or not? I’m confused.
Sigh. Explaining humor ruins it.

I *like* Quad City style pizza. It's a nice change of pace and it's pretty neat that a relatively obscure and smallish Midwestern community has its own distinctive style of this iconic food that has been written up and acknowledged in places like USA Today, The Washington Post, Food & Wine, etc.

That said, I understand taste is subjective and not everyone agrees. It is also not my very favorite style of pizza, either in the world or even in the region (hi Pagliai's!).

Because so many people are irrationally hateful towards it (hi @QChawks !), I find it amusing to pretend I am a gigantic Super Fan and that Quad City style pizza is the best food ever made and will sweep the globe with its awesomeness, putting the Quad Cities on the much-deserved culinary map along with other foodie cities.

HAHA, GET IT?

Oh great, next you're going to explain to our Floridians that Casey's pizza is just okay.

Portillos--First Impression
I headed here post QC Airshow.
They screwed up part of my order. Lots of people, a zoo but manageable. I got the Big Beef. Plenty of sandwich but not obscene. Taste wise a B. Needed more taste or something on it. Got the au jus on the side. Onion rings were the only thing I thought was pricey. $2.39 for a few. The strawberry shake (large since I am obese) was very good. Only a 50c differential between small and large. I'd come back but I think try the hot dog offerings. Nice inside for what it is. The 5 dollar beer looked good as well.

You're self proclaimed obese and didn't get the chocolate cake shake?!? WTF. It's fantastic.

I still have four sandwiches left from the pack of eight the wife (pic in another thread) ordered for me for Father’s Day. I will happily be knocking down a couple more of those this week!

It's accurate. You and wendy getting all sensitive about it shows it.

Comparision: Shake Shack just opened a couple locations in San Diego (where i currently reside). I literally saw 0 people post about it on my social media accounts. Do you know how many Quad Citians posted about the new Portillos and Costco in Davenport? ALOT. Torbee has started multiple threads about it.
It has nothing to do with it being a chain and more to do with a proven good restaurant coming to an area with limited good restaurants.

And the food is fuggin awesome too. I can't believe we don't have one in Kansas City yet.

What time were you there?
I stopped around 1245pm on Sunday.
15 mins to place my order and 20 to get my food. Way to long for what is essentially fast food.
Everything we got was very good but ffs sit down restaurants are faster.
Growing up in Chicago area I've been to portillo's probably 100 times and never had a wait more than 5-10 mins on either end. If they don't get that part fixed the place will start to struggle.

I am guessing the shine will wear off after a couple months and they won't be as busy.

Fight restaurant!
Another poster mention the flavor being a B or B- That was my reaction as well.

After my first bite I said this is just like crockpot roast beef. Based on hype I was expection some awesome seasoning flavor, I was expecting something like a prime rib flavor.

I get where you’re coming from. I usually add salt, pepper, giardiniera and dip each bite in the gravy. It ends up being plenty flavorful. I also like the roll that they use. It’s nice and crusty on the outside, soft in the middle and holds together through the dipping process.

There is a guy here in KC that is originally from Chicago that was missing the food from home so he opened up a restaurant. They do Italian Beef, Chicago Hot Dogs and pizza. That is about as close as I can get to it here, unless I have some shipped in from Portillo’s. That’s a pretty expensive indulgence though.

The bread was an A, the meat was a C. I made the mistake of not having giardinera or au jus. Rookie mistake.

Late afternoon and yes the wait was long and they screwed up my order.

I should have taken your seasoning!

I actually have never tried it on a Portillo's sandwich, but I like the simpler salt/pepper combo on that. Any roast that goes into the crock pot gets a healthy dose, that's for sure!

I tried yours on baked chicken. It was great.
