Flo 2018 Big Board is up!!!!

the guys in our interests are on the rise, parris, hidlay, nelson, shapiro. time to show some love get those guys thinking like hawks.i am trying not to get overly excited, because i don't want to jinx anything.

I'm a big fan of Mason Parris, but does he really deserve the #2 ranking? I feel like he just came on the scene this year, and he still looks super raw to me. I'd take Nevills over him in a match right now.

I watched his matches from Flonationals and Disney duals. He looks super strong and athletic but technically very raw.

I also just don't think he has the credentials to be above guys like Teasdale, Teemer, etc. but I could be wrong on that I don't know a ton about his history.

I was at Disney Duals and the 3 most impressive wrestlers in order were 1) Silva (he will be a 133/141 not 125 like Flo is predicting) 2) Hidlay (who is a 184 in the future and I think a future NC) 3) Parris (the best athlete there)

I think those of upmost importance are Parris, Sasso, Hidlay. We already have Nelson and I think we get Shapiro. Silva isn't coming. I think that Lewan would be a good guy to get in the room and let him find a way into the lineup. I think Rocky Jordan would be a good addition as well.

It's a recruiting board...how many good HWYs out there? Plus ones that move like Parris.

#2 in the country - expectations of late are top of the podium, maybe a couple times. He's 210-220 right now. I don't think he's Snyder - neither do you. I've seen lots of guys move up and be successful - as in AAs - but that's not the #2 guy in the country to me. He's going to have some seriously good, big 285s to deal with and basically you are projecting him to be a J'Den Cox with that ranking. Maybe he develops into that - given how raw he has - but to me, this is gambling on more than one thing.

Don't get me wrong, I think he's a great recruit if he goes the wrestling route, but he's just too high right now because he's the flavor of the week. Top 20 for sure, you could make an argument for Top 10 given how scarce big guys are.

I know the FLO guys LOVE Hoffman too, but Parris beats him having twenty pounds on him. If they were the same size I think Hoffman would eat his lunch. But then again, Hoffman will never be a 285 and Parris has a chance to, so I get that.

He doesn't have the resume that other guys in the top 15 have, but he is an extremely unique athlete for his size. I'd probably have him in the 10-15 range. Chase Singletary was in the top 8 overall as a HWT prospect at one time, while weighing 215 and nobody was complaining about that. I think Parris has a higher ceiling than him. It may be a stretch, but in terms of potential, there are very few guys in this class that I would rather have.

Agree with this 100% except I'm not sure that he's an extremely unique athlete. Just almost all of them are playing football.

This is what I am thinking. For one, Gable Stevenson is in the same weight and class, so any titles out of Paris would be a surprise unless Gable takes redshirts/Olympic years.

A guy like Teasdale seems a much surer bet for college success and Paris is more of a project although extremely talented.

I've had this discussion with people already, but Parris might be the only thing standing between Gable and 4 titles. I honestly think he has that type of upside. Will he ever get there? No idea. I'd say it's 50/50 that he even wrestles at this point.

He has the physical tools to be a Kyle Snyder, he's tall and will grow into a mobile, getting to the legs type of athletic HWY. With GWIZ and Snyder and even your guy to an extent, that's what coaches are looking for now...not Tony Nelson's. In the future, it's going to be him and Gable. These type of HWY's don't grow on trees. You can develop "second tier" wrestlers to be champs or AA's but you can't teach speed and athleticism and you don't often get it at HWY. Point in case, Glosser, a one time Iowa 1A state champ beat Griffin Parriot...a top ten overall from Flo. Yea, Glosser has a year on him in the room but still. That's not going to happen at HWY.

Anyways, I think most are going to see this and make the mistake of looking at who he's beat blah, blah, blah instead of future value. It's why a left tackle in the NFL gets chosen over a heisman trophy winning RB. RB's are a dime a dozen but there are very few OT's out there who can consistently protect a QB's backside. It's not often we get an athlete like Parris to consider sticking around to wrestle.

It's a gamble...He could go play football and end up sitting or wrestle and end up being great.

Being from Florida, I see kids like him decently often. He's a great athlete and has the potential to be great at wrestling. He's not extremely unique though.

Hopefully he will wrestle and choose Iowa. Warner would be a great partner for him.

The kid is extremely athletic for his size, which absolutley makes him unique for wrestling and especially the weight class he's projected at. Heavy is moving in that direction and has been for the last 5 years which makes Mason an incredibly important recruit (The same reason getting Warner was so important). Elite wrestlers at larger weight classes are harder to come by as posters above have eluded to. The overall gap between 1-4 and 4-8 at Heavy in March is clear year after year.

*I understand that Warner is a more polished wrestler.

Chief, who wins more AAs and titles, him or Teasdale?

A lot depends but I'm betting there is going to be way more competition at 133 than there would be at HWY. If he committed to wrestling and got bigger...I would say him. Watch this match from FloNats against a PA State and Super 32 Champ in Kennerly (another very talented raw guy). Makes it look easy. Showed he can throw, get in on legs with the firemans, a real nice low single.

One just has to look at tOSU's Moore, who I would actually compare him to, to see how much progress a kid like that can make in such a short time.

Yes it is unique for wrestling at his size. I think 10-15lb of muscle over the next 2 years and a redshirt will have him ready to compete for a title. Must get.

Can anyone confirm that the staff is recruiting Mason Parris? Costello will be taking a RS this year, Colton Shultz has been talked about on here before class of 2019, and it appears Francis Duggan will be coming to Iowa. What kind of $ could Iowa give Parris and could it come close to the full-rides he will receive in Football?

Exactly. He's more likely to be an NCAA champ than to make it to the NFL. I am surprised he doesn't have more football offers though, just considering his wrestling success. Many great football players came from a wrestling background. Mike Daniels on the Packers for example. Ray Lewis, etc.

I mean no disrespect to Costello, but I don't see him ever AAing. We need to be recruiting heavyweight vigorously. If Parris hasn't committed, they better be going full steam ahead recruiting him. I'm not that familiar with Duggan. How does he project?

Duggan is ranked 6th best 285 on Flo's 2018 BB. Good football player also, but will not be playing football his senior year to focus on wrestling. If I had my choice between Shultz and Parris I think I would take Shultz class of 2019. This would mean that either Holloway RSJR or Costello RSFR would start for a year after Stoll graduates while Shultz took a RS which I think he would still need to add a little size. Shultz is very good at Greco and would have great partners to train with in Telford/Stoll (Junior Bronze in Greco)/Costello (Fargo greco AA).

No no no. I want Parris way before I want Schultz and that's absolutely no disrespect to Schultz. Parris is just now focusing on wrestling and is jumping levels. Schultz is nowhere near the athlete of Parris.

Schultz does have a W over Parris and just won Cadet Greco and Freestyle. I think Shultz has a better college career. Again does anyone know if Iowa is recruiting Parris. I know Michigan, NC State, VT, Purdue, Princeton, Nebraska, and others are.

Yes we are and I highly doubt it. I would bet that Parris is better. Again, very high opinion of Cohlton and if we don't get Parris then we need to be all in on Schultz.
