Really dumb question but we're flying next week with our 10 and 8 year old. The kids haven't ever flown so I didn't know if we needed anything for them to get through security. Obviously, we will have to show our IDs with our tickets but I didn't know if anything was needed for kids. Thanks!

I fly with my kids pretty regularly. Yours won't need to take their shoes off and you won't need any ID. I can't remember at what age they start requiring the shoe check, but it's at least 12. TSA screener may ask the child to verify their name when going through, and that'll be the worst of it.

If your airport has it, you can jump to the family check-in line, which sometimes is faster than priority check.

Your kids are that old and have never flown? WTH

You dumbass. He's never flown commercially before. He usually charters a jet but his kids are getting kind of cocky about it so he's knocking them down a peg or two. He's just trying to determine how poors get through the airport as smoothly as possible. Normally, his driver usually just pulls up directly to the jet.

Have fun buddy. Disney World should be awesome at those ages.

My kid, who turns 1 next month, has flown 4 times. 2 visits to Iowa, 1 to Tampa, and 1 to San Diego.
Anything else?

My 15 year old twins have never even been in an airport, my 19 year old has flown around 15 times, my 23 year old has flown once. We vacation every year, go to some very cool spots, but have driven everywhere. Partially because of the cost of flying 6 people, partially because we generally don't go one place and hang out, but mainly because we just prefer the driving part. Seeing the country instead of flying over it is part of the fun.

Wait a minute. Why do you think it's a good thing to drag a child all over the country? Are you one of those keeping up with the Jones' type?

I wish I was one of those who truly enjoys the road and the driving experience.. for some reason or another it just doesn't do it for me. I can spend 48 hours straight in a train happy as can be, 14 hours in a plane, not necessarily comfortable but excited about what's to come. However, driving over 6 hours is pretty much a deal breaker for me.

Thanks for all of the advice, minus SP as usual. I figured there wasn't much to it but my wife is a worrier.

Fred, if only that were true.

As someone who also lived 1000 miles from all our family when our first was born we flew with him probably 4 times in the first year so family and friends could meet him. It's easy when they're that little; but I'll admit that we got lucky and he only cried on one flight and that was just briefly before falling asleep. Once they get a bit older it's tougher to hold them still, we probably only flew once with him in the 18 months-3 years range. He's flown twice this year (now 4), including out of the country. Now that he can just watch his DVD player it's easier again.

My favorite was when he was about 2 and we hit some turbulence. People were starting to freak out and he just kept yelling "wheeeee!". Most people just laughed and realized they were being silly for white knuckling the seat in front of them. But one old lady got upset, but whatever.
