Folks, just a heads up.

It’s not plagiarism when the source is cited. Plagiarism is when someone copies another’s work, and presents it as their own.

It’s more like a cease and desist. The people objecting feel their income is being affected, just like my bit torrenting, instead of paying for HBO.
Again. OP said it was plagiarism. Just wish Kwik was clear from the beginning what was going on.

Absolutely. It’s the full articles that are strictly copy & pasted without any link that we would be talking about.

Also, as to post only the link, not still copy and paste the full article.

Post only a link.
So essentially you are saying paywalled/subscriber content is no longer allowed even if you include a link?

Frankly, that's pretty crappy.

For example, I often post a link to an Atlantic article, then include the content for those without a sub. One would think the publications would view that as free marketing/promotion as new readers are being reached who may decide the content makes a sub a value.

We have recently been instructed to remove all threads that are strictly Copy & Pasted without properly being posted as a link.

If you could please do a link only to the desired article or writing, that would be the best way to get your thread to remain on the board.

Thanks.

You could have just sent this post directly to @cigaretteman but I do understand the desire not to single him out.

I don’t understand this take.

If you post a paywalled article from the Atlantic, they should be thanking you for advertising?

Sure, it’s exposing many people who may otherwise not see it the quality of their work, which is a good way to attract new subscribers.

I’d draw the line at copy/pasting an entire issue of course - but an article here and there? I see no reason why not.

Lack of enforcement here then. I pointed it out when I migrated over here. It was a big no no and always has been.

@DFSNOLE can correct my memory- but Gene threw a big fit because ‘premium’ warchant articles were being shared in their entirety in other places, so the no posting articles went from football content to all articles on all boards. Maybe he’s the one who escalated up to rivals mothership, or other team sites had same issues?

Believe it has also been the policy on the main board for a while.
He did. We were instructed not to allow content from other sites as well as keeping an eye out for his premium articles on free pages. I never did the latter but would delete stuff from sites like 24/7/.

Warchant is no longer part of the Rivals network so it wouldn't be him.

I think we need some context here. How many sentences/paragraphs are acceptable until a link needs to be provided? Are we able to copy/paste the whole story IF we link a URL to all text in the post? This kind of request seems pretty loose with the rules (like last time). Does it only apply to a certain political party? Looking for any clarification
To clarify…no Dem-related links are allowed. 😉

Really meant maybe that was the origin of the mothership Rival rules about links.

**When we migrated here, didn't Gene also connect with Kakkert(?) asking him to delete posts trashing Warchant's new rule/paywal for Off Topic?

Gene consulted with my husband about this.

It was over Gene’s belief that everyone was stealing his content. It was about 24/7. However both Nee and Gene were at the same press conference. My husband explained there was nothing to see because the articles in question were based on what was said in a press conference.

There was nothing stealing of content.

I see what you’re saying, but I think they want to avoid the potential conflict altogether by just posting it as a link.

Something must of happened along the lines for us to be notified. That’s really all I have on the topic.

As a journalist, you should be aware of copyright laws. I do understand your point though.

Sounds like something a person with a tiny platform would say.

So tell us what entity sent the cease and desist and we'll boycott the F out of them. Those that matter don't mind, those that mind don't matter kind of positioning

You’ve made it clear multiple ways that no one is paying to read anything you write. But this right here really shows your quality.
