Worse, looks like Iraq War was all a sham from the get go and the US Government wrongly imprisoned Julian Assange for like a decade.
Makes you pause when we are told we need to fund and participate in global conflicts. What are the end goals here?
There is no doubt the Invasion of Iraq was a major cluster @#%k, After 9/11 there was so much goodwill and support for the U.S. and it was basically pissed away.
In the Middle East the endgame revolves around Oil.
I think we all knew that at the time.
As far as Assange goes I am struggling to decide which way to go
While those were all worthwhile objectives and would have extended the ultimate life of the American republic by perhaps 50-100 years, there was no follow through. There never is. We seem to change political parties every four or eight years and whenever we move to the Democrats, we immediately shift from a (very) long-term time horizon to a very short one. The "I want it all now" crowd takes over and we forfeit whatever military progress we are making, so that we can start giving stuff away instead of advancing the cause of freedom everywhere.
I do not see any of our foreign entanglement's working out in the long term. General Clark was optimistic that with the then-existing and post 9-11 support for idealism and the American way of life, it was going to be different this time around.
It never is. Those greedy, power-hungry little suckers called Liberals will undercut the dreams of the founders every time.
Did it ever occur to anyone around here that including offshore, fracking. natural gas, and coal, that we have more energy reserves than any nation in the world. WE should be exporting oil and controlling the price.
Middle Eastern Oil has nothing to do with this stuff unless we allow it into the equation ... which we do continuously.
