Former Hawkeye Maurice Fleming

Stinks for Fleming that he is still on the bench. Coulda been on the bench here with his buddies.

I'll take a guess at their defensive positions:

FCB: Field Corner
BCB: Boundary Corner
FS: Field Safety
BS: Boundary Safety

The rest, other than SPUR, are fairly standard. I'd guess SPUR is their hybrid position. Super Productive Uber Responsible.

Probably a smart move to transfer, at best he was in a dogfight for the 4th CB spot with Ojemudia and Rugamba. This is the strongest I have every seen our CB position.

Listed as a backup in WVU's two deeps. Instead of backing up 2 future NFLers in Iowa City he is an injury away from being a starter in Morgantown. Has to be disappointed that it appears he didn't win a starting job.

Also, I have no idea what most of these acronyms mean for their 3-3-5 defense.

Hindsight being 20/20, pretty dumb move on his part. Could have likely played at a smaller school.

I think he was pretty clearly the 3rd corner at Iowa. He started 2 games filling in for Mabin. With Jackson being banged up in camp having Fleming back as a 3rd corner would be great. Ojemudia and Rugamba are going to be very good but having a solid 5th year guy to lean on would be great.

Thought they moved Fleming to Safety for Spring ball? I might be thinking of someone else, but I thought the "story" was, he would have been a back up there as well.

Down the stretch of last season, Fleming was the 4th corner. Despite moving from WR to CB in fall camp, Jackson was clearly the 3rd corner for the last 2/3 of the season last year with King moving to the slot in nickel. The staff loves Ojemudia as well. The writing on the wall was clear for Fleming.

I'm sure Fleming was a good guy, but he doesn't match the current talent level we have at that position. I don't blame him for leaving to get playing time, very similar to the Rudock situation.

This is the best Top 5 CBs I have ever seen at Iowa, even with Fleming gone. The Jackson/Ojemudia/Rugamba/Boswell group next year will be really good as well.

Loved the kid. And even though he's not a starter (at the moment) his experience of learning a new system, engaging with new teammates, and adjusting to a new city are all things that will benefit him in life's journey. GOOD LUCK MAURICE!!!
