Jesus... he was selling shoes that he owned. He didn’t choke a bitch. He didn’t steal something. He didn’t cheat on his school work. He didn’t use PEDs. He sold his shoes.
This may seem minor, but I would imagine these are shoes given to him as a player by the university. Thats a NO NO. Same thing that happened at OSU I believe when they were selling jerseys several years ago. Players are not allowed to profit from the free gear they receive while they are student athletes. They all know this as well.

4 games seems like a lot for doing that. On one hand we got guys getting four game suspensions for selling their own shoes, jeopardizing their amateurism. On the other hand we got guys getting one game suspensions for driving while under the influence, jeopardizing people's lives.
I would imagine the longer suspension for selling equipment is a CYOA deal, because its a NCAA violation, where as the the other is a code of conduct thing and is up to the school. As we know, at many school these players would not have even been arrested, so take some solace in that anyway.

Yeah, 4 games is a lot.

But, it's only one guy for Iowa, right - Wirfs? Not "guys". Not forgiving or minimizing, just clarifying.

People let It go! He decommitted 2 yrs ago. Move on! OMFG it's not a big deal, life goes on. Why are People still so obsessed with Beau?!?

I believe he was including Snyder from last Nov. and was suspended from the bowl, and basically KF's statement that Wirfs would get one game because that has basically become SOP for this infraction.

People just can't let the Eno thing go, and thats the tie in. You know if Eno does ANYTHING this year, there will be people posting it in this site, even if Young, IKM, Sargeant, run all over his accomplishments.......o_O

Fair enough.

Plus UNC is under a microscope for previous issues throughout athletic department.

I will guarantee you that some Iowa athletes are selling some of their gear whether it be to friends or Plato’s closet.

Yeah, that's kind of what I'm making fun of. I've brought up Eno before and been chastised for being unable to move on as though I were deeply emotionally invested in the issue.
I still would like to have Eno on the team and think he's quite talented. He wanted to be a Hawk 100% too. Oh well. We have great backs right now.

That may very well be, and if they are their putting themselves at risk of suspension, and possible loss of scholorship. You, I or the players may not agree with it, but its a rule, and they know it. It's just like we know that 95% of college kids drink, even though their not of legal age. It is what it is, and they know upfront, if they get caught, there will be a penalty.

If they give players equipment, they should either
1) force them to return every piece of it, or
2) allow them to do anything the want with their personal property - gift, earned, or otherwise.

Such a silly suspension.

This makes sense in theory. But what happens when (insert random school here) gets some random guy to set up shop outside of practice and pay each player $10K for their shoes? The NCAA isnt "all" of the problem, they have to make some of these asinine rules because too many people have taken advantage of random loopholes.

This is exactly right. Like almost all rules or laws, there put in place because SOMEBODY has already been taking the liberty of stretching the envelope for their own personal gain or profit. If there were no rules in place you could bet that the sharks would be set up outside of practice at Bama, or OSU, and it would be a free for all of selling everything right down to their jocks.

Stupid is as stupid does. Give your shoes to a friend who then in turn sells them. And only give away last years models so you don't have to ask for more in the event you actually need more. They aren't being punished for selling shoes. They are being punished for being stupid.

True. Similar to what was happening with Manziel, if I remember correctly? Would it be that hard to put some type of rule in place that allows them to sell the goods for XX% of what they cost brand new? Could that stop some of that from happening? Or are there still other issues it wouldn't solve?

So dumb. NCAA has the most idiotic rules.
I tend to agree but they are still rules that are meant to be followed just like the Wirfs situation kid had one or two beers dumb law but still a law.Just like smoking is allowed in casinos but not bars seems like a double standard right.

There's one big problem with letting them do what they want with freebies. It becomes a mechanism for paying players by gifting them large quantities of shoes and other items and then having boosters pay large sums to buy them.

We have "guys" jeopardizing lives?
I'm pretty sure TW got a "zero tolerance" owi.....that hardly endangers lives!
Lets be realistic.

I will say, 4 games doesn't make much sense. Either they sold a TON of stuff, or there is more to the story imo.

I wonder how many pairs of nikes we'd see oregon players with. Probably give them a new pair for each day of the year ;)

.129 BAC is a couple beers for Wirfs? Wow, he’s a lightweight.

Carrales looked really, really good last year in the game I saw against Miami. He made a few circus catches and had at least one TD - really big target.

Again, I don't think it has anything to do with amounts. The schools hand down a stiff penalty, to self police, and avoid NCAA sanctions, on what has clearly been spelled out previously as a violation of improper gifts, (or benefiting from athletes status). This is clearly CYOA. The fact that so many players were involved,(thirteen), would show that this was not an isolated incident, which would make it even worse for the offending school.

I don't get the disdain for Corrales. He was up front with the coaches about wanting to look around and they told him they were moving on to look for someone else. He wasn't shady like Calloway or Eno. And if he never does anything worse than selling a pair of free shoes he got, he will have lived a stellar life.
