A former Albia High School football coach has been charged with sexually abusing a child between 2019 and this June.

Aaron Koester, 35, has been charged with sexually abusing a child under the age of 12 between February 2019 and June 2021, according to criminal complaints. Koester also abused the child after they turned 13 years old, according to the complaint. In all, he faces four charges.

Koester worked as a coach at Albia High School until he resigned in May, according to KCCI-TV. Koester surrendered his teaching license to the Iowa Board of Education in June.

He was living in Indianapolis when he was arrested last week, according to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

"These charges are not the result of interactions Koester had as a coach," according to a news release.

Koester is currently being held at the Monroe County Jail.
