It sure looks like writing on the wall with Fran as I can’t see him being the coach next season. With that said here are a few coaches that they need to look at hard!

Ben McCollum Drake
Chris Jans Mississippi St
Darin DeVries West Virginia
Jarrod Calhoun Utah St
Buzz Williams Texas AM (wildcard longshot)

I believe you need to hire a coach with head coaching experience. Gatens needs to go to a smaller school and work his way up the coaching tree!
Unless he can work magic on this team as interim.

Zero risk there. Can't do much? Full national search.

Could we not name Gatens interim and see how he does the rest of the year with the same guys?
I don’t think Beth has the balls to fire Fran mid season. If he steps down on his own that would be a different thing but don’t see neither one of these happening. Let’s just pray he’s done as soon as they play there one conference tournament game and that’s if they qualify for it!

OSU doesn't look good after hiring Diebler. I don't mind Gatens as head coach to finish year but there is no way to know how he
is with Marketing, managing NIL, putting together a system that is recruitable at Iowa, etc. ISU of course did take a couple chances...1st with Hoiberg...mostly successful and then hugely successful with TJ Otzelberger and Moneyball defensive team. ISU did have a couple big flameouts, though McDermott has some back breaks and has done well at Creighton.

I'm all for hiring a younger head coach and not paying top Dollar and instead put more money into NIL. Ticket surcharge for NIL, while lowering base price to keep ticket price the same. The lost revenue, you save by not Paying FRan and his staff $5 million or so they get.

It’s Dieblers first season give the guy some time. Christ Fran is in like year 16 and the program is stale as ever. This new AD is getting paid well she needs to make the right hire and put Hawk basketball back on the map just like the 80s and 90s!

You’re thinking too much, let’s find a good coach. Worry about NIL later

Darin DeVries.... Gotta go all in on him and see what happens.

Chris Collins - not sure he'd move within conf
Niko Medved - Colorado State
Matt Langel - Colgate
Mike Morrell - UNC Asheville
Joe Pasternack - UC Santa Barbara
Bob Richey - Furman

Just find the young/hungry up and comer.

Program needs new life

I also feel that with the right hire it could get the ball rolling on increasing the NIL for the program. Who wants to give money that’s already tight for a lot of us fans to this dumpster fire. Fran is committing larceny!

Why can't you see Fran as the coach next season?

Has there been a new development? Been pretty much the same tune for 14 years, if you ask me

Dude his seat is hot! People aren’t going to the games which means revenue is being lost. He looks burnt out just with his body language. He may very well be back but hoping for the latter.

His seat is hot according to who?

Fans haven't been attending for years.

Body language? Maybe. I've also heard it interpreted that he is more relaxed without his sons on the team.

Regardless, the product is the same thing it's been for 14 years.

I guess you all of the sudden can't see Fran as head coach next season because of his body language. Maybe there's something to that. We'll see.

Was just wondering if there had been some other development I had missed

I'll take any guy as coach who knows it may be a good idea to call a TO when a team does on a 14-0 run.

This. It’s been the same for the last 5 +- years. Iowans are scared of change .

I’m not opposed to Gatens but this team is about the talent level. Having Gatens or any other coach will not mean our guys will jump higher or be stronger. We need more talent.

I'd like to see them give a shot at the model that has shown it can work now.
Bring a guy in from a small school with success at that level. He gets 3-4 of his players to come with him. Play Moneyball with the rest of the roster. More money spent on players. Don't be afraid to bring in one year mercenaries. Targeted retention of the current roster. Let the others find a spot elsewhere. This is business.

I think Chris Jans might be a good choice. He has proven he can win at four different programs division one programs. He has shown the ability to be able to recruit athletic players. He will teach defensive principles. His in game coaching seems to be pretty good. Because he has coached all around the country and he had very good success at the Juco level his recruiting ties would be pretty expansive.

I'm not scared of change.

I simply asked Nosok why he didn't see Fran as coach next year.

I don't see anything different about this season other than some of his family is in Indy

Not working for Indiana. $5M+ for starters. Over a million on one.
