He just upset Iowa State today.I do not want Devries as a coach.
You do realize any other head coach & your boy Brock is either coming off the bench or getting asked to transfer right? The next head coach will probably recruit high quality point guards.Gaten's no, anyone that regimented to Fran that after having the scout of USC, Iowa's best chance to beat USC was to start the game in a man to man is not ready to take over a BIG TEN team. SHERMAN is too old, and the rest of Fran's minions have no shot at becoming Iowa's next head coach. End of story.....
He's doing pretty good this year as well. I think he will continue to do so. Good for him.he was a hot iron last year
i meant the time to strike was last year. WV did. Iowa didn't.He's doing pretty good this year as well. I think he will continue to do so. Good for him.
We'll see if your prediction pans out, as of now, both Moline boys have over 2 years left before they graduation from Iowa. You have lot's of games to critique their play and I'm sure you will. You do realize any other head coach & your boy Brock is either coming off the bench or getting asked to transfer right? And you're too old... grumpy.
I'd want someone who has had a better mentor than Gatens. For those of you proposing Gatens.... how excited would you be about recruiting an assitant coach with 3 years of experience at Drake and then 4 years at Minny? If you are going to go after an assistant coach, at least go for one that has been mentored by a proven big-time winner.
Gaten's only significant selling point is his association with Iowa. With the resources Goetz has available, they need to aim higher.
Oh yeah, I forgot he's the best to ever wear the uniform at Iowa. Give me a break! Both the Moline boys need to up their games significantly if Iowa is going to make the NCAA's. If Iowa misses the tourney again that will make two straight years with your boys on the roster..... hmmm. And even you cannot believe after 3 of the last 4 games that Iowa is a tournament team. We'll see if your prediction pans out, as of now, both Moline boys have over 2 years left before they graduation from Iowa. You and others can fantasize all you want about Iowa recruiting a better point guard then Brock, it ain't happening.
You seem awfully bitter towards moline and freeman and Harding.Oh yeah, I forgot he's the best to ever wear the uniform at Iowa. Give me a break! I do have a long-ago story regarding a late-night establishment called Sharkey's, but it wasn't a bad experience.... lol. And have enjoyed a few rounds of golf in Silva, IL at the TPC course just outside of Moline. Also, John Deere is one of the better run companies I've ever been associated with. Nothing bad to say about the city. You seem awfully bitter towards moline and freeman and Harding.
Did something bad happen to you there?
Why Gatens, guy has NEVER been a Head Coach. We should be able to get someone who has been successful as a Head Coach.Bring on Gatens !!!!
Until the end of the end of the year. If he turns things around look to him for HC. If not, move on. Not hard.Absolutely not. Big ten is not a training wheel program
It sure looks like writing on the wall with Fran as I can’t see him being the coach next season. With that said here are a few coaches that they need to look at hard!
Ben McCollum Drake
Chris Jans Mississippi St
Darin DeVries West Virginia
Jarrod Calhoun Utah St
Buzz Williams Texas AM (wildcard longshot)
Thoughts…
Iowa could have also had McDermott and Dana Altman too. Tho not a fan of Altman's style of play personally.Iowa had their chance last year with DeVries. That ship sailed unfortunately. Last year WVU went 9-23...DeVries is already sitting at 12-4.
You know Gatens will be good? How so? Are you capable and willing to pay his buyout if he falls short?Fire Fran now and give Gatens a shot. He will be a top coach somewhere mark my words. Just a matter of if that is here or not.
I like him already.
Iowa can't recruit a point guard better than Harding? We'll see if your prediction pans out, as of now, both Moline boys have over 2 years left before they graduation from Iowa. You have lot's of games to critique their play and I'm sure you will.

I don't know. I suspect he will be.You know Gatens will be good? How so? Are you capable and willing to pay his buyout if he falls short?
Btw, last time Iowa promoted an assistant w/o head experience it didn't go so good (Dick Schultz)
He’s committing fraud.I also feel that with the right hire it could get the ball rolling on increasing the NIL for the program. Who wants to give money that’s already tight for a lot of us fans to this dumpster fire. Fran is committing larceny!
you think a D1 basketball program could hire a coach on a one year contract with no buyout?I don't know. I suspect he will be.
Don't give him a buyout. 1 year contract. If he isn't willing to accept that, without HC experience, then so be it.
I would see a recruiting issue as one barrier. Hence the idea we let Fran go now and put Gatens as interim.you think a D1 basketball program could hire a coach on a one year contract with no buyout?
Still a no for me.He just upset Iowa State today.
Why in the world would he leave WVU for Iowa?Beth surely has had a list made up for a while now. I would imagine DeVries would be at the top of that list.
As a true SO Brock Harding/Owen Freeman have easily met or exceeded any expectations. If you don't see that you are either clueless, a curmudgeon or both. This team has a ton of problems but to think specifically BH can't play at this level and needs to transfer is just well...stupid.I do have a long-ago story regarding a late-night establishment called Sharkey's, but it wasn't a bad experience.... lol. I pick on them due to IllQCHawk's irrational exuberance over mostly BH. I am his counterbalance. I hope they turn out better than they've played, but he's so far up BH butthole I need to pull him back sometimes. That's it...
Don’t dismiss the Les Jepson talk ….Where's Ryan Bowen these days?
We don't want George, we need his bag man Martin. Can we get George Raveling back?
They've played well against weaker teams in blowouts. 3 out of the past 4 games they haven't shown me much of anything. I won't apologize for having higher expectations. Obviously, Fran doesn't. They're no longer freshman and they are on the verge of missing the NCAA's in back to back seasons. BH is the weakest link in the starting lineup. As a true SO Brock Harding/Owen Freeman have easily met or exceeded any expectations. He's an assistant with the NuggetsWhere's Ryan Bowen these days?
Especially difficult considering Huggie Bear grew up in Morgantown before moving to Ohio to play for his dad in HS and then transferred back to WVU after his freshman year in college and played 3 years for the Mountaineers. The AD at WVU pulled off some impressive stuff with the bball program.. had to let Bob Huggins go after his drinking and driving incident.. fan base torn about that , Bob was even trying to politic for his position back.. AD didn’t make a hasty hire, he sat back, decided to go interim for a year, let the Bob Huggins stuff cool off.. , possibly knowing he would have a good shot at Devries at the end of last season and it is working out beautifully for the program.
He'd probably have his hat in the ring for next head coach. He's an assistant with the Nuggets
They have both had moments where a person would believe they have turned a corner but then they go back to bad habits. Brock needs to have a purpose when he attacks the lane. Too many times he drives and has nowhere to go with the ball, so he either has turnover or throws up a shot that has almost no chance to go in. Over penetrating is a killer. In order for Freeman to be the player he has the potential to be, he has to be stronger with the basketball and be on balance. Too many times he turns the ball over in the paint or trys to do things he is not able to do at this point. As a true SO Brock Harding/Owen Freeman have easily met or exceeded any expectations. I don't disagree with having a plan when driving to the hoop. Dean Oliver drove me nuts when he was a Fr/So as he did it all the time but ultimately learned as I think Brock will too. My point was Brock can play at this level and it isn't even debatable. Is there room for improvement...of course but he can play and honestly at a higher level than I had anticipated. I think he will have a very good career with the Hawks and believe if Freeman stays until he is a Sr could be a beast. They have both had moments where a person would believe they have turned a corner but then they go back to bad habits.
