Fran needs….

You have to have the athletic ability to play defense. The only players Iowa has that plays any resemblance of defense is the freshmen, Fran went to the portal and picked up Ben Krikke who unfortunately can't jump and has no lateral quickness. Patrick is who he is, a black hole that against good teams becomes a non entity. Payton is just a shooter that is defensively challenged, so this team is put together poorly and because of that those that bitch about Iowa not playing defense has another 3 months to heap on the narrative. We'll see if the experience that the freshman get this year will pay dividends in future years.
Complaining that Fran needs to go out and bring in a defensive specialist isn't going to happen, this is year 14, it hasn't happened yet..
This is all sorts of wrong. You don't play D1 without the athleticism required to be taught to play good fundamental team defense. FRAN DOES NOT DO THIS. Watch the number of times the weakside is out of position or is not looking at the ball. What are our defensive priorities? Hell we left freeman 1-1 with edey in the post when he was in foul trouble. It's not like Purdue was shooting lights out.
Fran is as bad at coaching defense as brian is at offense.

You have to admit Purdue is absolutely loaded their bench players would be starters on other teams

Purde has Edey. When he goes out, no ones but B1G teams are afraid of Purdue remaining starters or bench.
Purdue got bounced out by a nobody last year in NCAA tourney....dominating the B1G doesn't translate into dominant performance in NCAA tourney.

Iowa got thrashed as expected....there is not a lot of interest in Iowa mens B-ball. Not many posts complaining about Purdue loss. Its been a long period with Alford, Lickliter, Fran with mediocre success and no cinderella years in NCAA tourney to remember back on for the lean years.

This looks like a 8-12 type B1G record team to me.

Edey needs to be treated like teams treated Garza...let him get his 30 points and focus you defense on the other 4... Collapsing in the lane to prevent Edey from having an easy layup is not the way to handle Purdue. Leaves too many guys open. Big difference is Purdue can hit the shots.

Anyone who went to IC West learned good defensive skills...Bergman is an excellent defensive coach. The fact it doesn't transfer to Iowa is a big red flag on the Hawkeye program and any ex-West players.
Uh, didn't Patrick go to West?

Yep, just watch a team like Northwestern. It's not about athleticism.

It's about practing the details of defense. Knowing where to be before it happens. Reading what your opponent and teammates are doing. Communicate more than anything else is crucial.

Fran gets full credit for Iowas execution on offense and full credit for his lack of organization on defense.

Edey and a team that plays actual defense is tough for Iowa. Anyone for that matter but edey is such of a 1 of 1, it’s hard to take too much from this game.
Other than Fran’s defense is as gross as Brian’s offense. Pmac is lost on defense. For a 4th year guy that’s sad. As always he’s on the weakside and can’t be troubled to help let alone look in the paint and he’s two passes away. It’s not like Purdue has an inside presence to worry about. The young guys at least give what they can on defense.
Also, brauns is worth playing. Heaven forbid krikke freeman and brauns take time from pmac.
Sandforts defense is every bit as bad as PMacs right now. I don’t know what his deal is but I’ve been pretty disappointed in his overall play this year.

Braun looks like he belongs on defense
