Seriously! Why does he continue to get a pass here… He struck gold with some players but overall what has this man done to warrant contract extensions. The Lickliter thing doesn’t fly anymore and he still hasn’t changed his defensive philosophy and when his shooters aren’t hitting they get ran out of the gym. Time for change. Will Beth do what Barta should’ve done awhile ago… Not a fan of Fran and just making it to the dance. #wheres a sweet 16 in 13 seasons!

"Just getting to the Dance"
is not easy.
I understand the frustration but we are not a blueblood who is never supposed to miss the Dance.
Help is on the way with this frosh group and next year's 2 four star recruits.
NIL shortage has cost us some guys...need to buy some transfers every year.

I don't think Fran has ever gotten a "pass" on this board. He has been routinely criticized.

But, calls to terminate him are just howling at the moon. It's not going to happen.
Seems that over there last 5 yrs fans on this board and Football board just want to complain whether the team
wins or lose. Life must really be miserable for most.

My question was going to be about NIL. I’ve read on this forum that the CEO of Swarm says they don’t have the money to fund basketball. If that’s true, I’m not really sure what the average fan can expect from Fran.

It’s clearly a talent issue, right? If Fran doesn’t have the resources to go out and get basketball versions of Cade McNamara, Nick Jackson, Kaleb Brown, etc., then I don’t see why fans are so apt to want to get rid of him. I know last night’s game was bad, but overall Iowa is usually fun to watch in basketball.

Yesterday, Iowa had 14 turnovers which led Oklahoma
to score 20 points. That is on the players not playing
smart basketball. When that happens you cannot
blame the coach. Iowa came into the game averaging
only 6 turnovers per game.
Live ball turnovers leading to layups on the other end were probably the difference in the game.. To many lazy passes at the top of the key. It was unusual to see that and hopefully it was a one-off.

At least Iowa B-ball offense is more fun to watch than Football offense.

My problem with coaches like Kirk Ferentz and Fran is they both have old man's syndrome and are
stubborn on doing the same thing with same result. The other problem is the obvious nepotism/self dealing
which is indication of poor character despite the fan's that think they are saints.

Ouch. That’s hard assessment of PMac. Look out for Margie. She will be out to get you!

Honestly, regarding PMac, I don’t get it myself….he hangs out on the three point line on offense and runs the baseline back and forth then hangs out at the three point line on defense, barely dropping down into the lane to defend or rebound. It seems as if Iowa is playing 5 on 4 when he is in the game. Very frustrating to watch him play when he doesn’t do anything - defend, rebound, or attack the ball and rim on offense. He needs to sit for the freshman that are better than him. Fran has a blind eye toward him due to one reason and only one reason.

Great, she can pull a Bowlsby and hire the next wunderkind of college basketball to improve our March situations

You're most likely getting your wish soon.

How is Fran's system remotely similar to Lickliter's?

Fran is the same guy who left an NBA player on the bench in order to start a son who every time he drove to the basket looked like a special needs kid. Fire Fran.
If you think Kris Murray as a freshman was a "NBA" caliber player at that time you're kidding yourself. People tend to forget kids develop and I'll give Kris all the credit in the world for doing so. He did not deserve to play as a freshman.

Pretty sure Patrick M. and Kris M. were the same class.

What's a talent issue?

The lack of defense is as much on the coaching as anything.

Almost no one in college is an "NBA caliber" player, that's why they're in college and not the pros.

Keegan wasn't an "NBA caliber" player his freshman year but he was a hell of a lot better than Connor who started ahead of him.

Garza wasn't an NBA caliber player in college, thats why he was in college.

No one thinks college players are "NBA caliber" while in college.

When someone refers to a college player in the past tense as an "nba" player they are obviously referring to someone who ended up getting drafted.

If a player ends up being drafted it means they had a lot of talent to begin with. To think otherwise is nonsense.

The guy finishes over .500 in a power conference every year. What kind of record do you expect?

Fran took the Murray brothers from unknowns with only a Western Illinois offer to NBA lottery picks, and the crickets chirp that he used them wrong and doesn't know what he is doing. LOL

Non of that was my point. My point is so many seem to think that because someone ends up at a certain spot then he must have always been at that level. Not one of us were in the gym to see what was happening with the players. And contrary to an opinion that Fran would sacrifice the team (and his salary/position as head coach) for his son's playing time - that is ridiculous. He's not a travel ball coach.

And I'm just not going to argue with you - Connor played a different role as a distributor and ball handler than Keegan did for that team and if you can't understand why he played I can't help you. Keegan did not bring those skills and maybe you forget who the star was for that team?

Let us know how it works out, your talk with Beth.

No one thinks that.

Connor and Keegan played the same position.

I didn't say they had the same roles, I said Keegan was a hell of a lot better and that is obviously a true statement.
