Heard this tidbit from Matt Randazzo on the most recent Hawkeye Report podcast. During the review of the Davison ”hook and hold” at the end of the Wiscy game, Fran was going nuts. If you were watching the game, while the refs are huddled at the scorer’s table reviewing the play, you can hear Fran say clearly to the refs, “He’s been holding every fu*king time down the floor!”. Pretty funny. Just another game with the Badgers...

That's one great thing about not having fans, you can hear the coaches yelling at refs. Heard a lot of that from the Brands brothers this past weekend!

Gard dropped three f bombs trying to defend Davison, who is defenseless based upon his actions on the court that should get him in trouble, flagrant 2 instead of the 1’s he gets. Hell, he tried to pull down K Murray to help him miss the shot on the put back but it really caused Murray to land on top of Davison’s chest. LoL. I loved it. Was hoping for a broken rib or two.

Anyone else notice the two Wisconsin bench warmers mocking Fran after the missed travel call late in the game?

Pretty classy bunch from Wisconsin.

Still don't see the foul they called on Keegan on that play.

Sadly you need to clarify which travel call. Refs missed 2 both on Potter. The one just before the under 4 timeout when he shuffled his feet and drew the foul. Or with just over 2 minutes when he got it at half court and dragged his pivot foot ala Chris Webber.

As another poster mentioned, Keegan gets called for more BS ticky tac fouls than I can remember
I am hoping that next year Keegan gets the benefit of the doubt on these calls. He's had several outstanding, completely clean blocks this year he's gotten whistled on. I assume all the refs have to watch game tape after, and see that he's capable of making unbelievable plays.

You can say it as many times as you wish,.. but there here was nothing fragrant about the Davison foul...
I suggest you learn the rule. Like many things these days, just because you disagree with it, it doesn't make it wrong. It was a fundamental skill that was taught in the "old days". That is a fact. They are trying to get it out of the game because it has potential for injury. Also a fact.

You may want to read Rifler’s response a little closer. I do not believe he was questioning the rule. I missed it the first time I read both messages myself.

I read that he said it wasn't "flagrant." When it is obvious to everyone and the officials actually ruled that at a critical point in the game, it was flagrant. If he meant something other than that, I will stand corrected.

Just another example of replay rules being stupid. Keegan clearly did not foul Davison. However, the refs called a foul on Keegan. They cannot by rule change the foul call. Which is stupid as they are looking at a replay. They can change a possession call or time but can't change a missed call. I imagine if they could change the foul call on Keegan they probably would have ruled the ball out on Wisconsin and Iowa possession. The refs realized that Keegan never touched Davison and the foul called on him was incorrect. But they couldn't change it. Therefore, making it easier for them to call the flagrant 1 on Davison to equal things out.

I understood that you read “flagrant.” The message did not say “flagrant” though. I would like to see how the B1G enforces “fragrant”fouls 😁

He’s not questioning the rule but how spell check turned my flagrant to FRAGRANT. :)

WOB,.. I'd suggest you learn it,,, (hint: my post had nothing to do with flagrant fouls,.. which Davison's definitely was)...

Yeah, I don't want to bail him out like that. I'm no expert on autocorrect, but why would one valid word automatically be replaced by another used improperly?
It wouldn't replace "Flagrant" with "Fragrant." But maybe he typed a non word that was similar to both words and auto-correct guessed wrong.

Ya I got that, skippy. But that fact is I'm not wrong about the interpretation of the rule.

it wasn't flagrant in the sense of the old school hard intentional foul but hook/hold falls in the flagrant category now and he was trapping Kegan's arm.

The half court one, right inside the Hawkeye logo. Wasn’t 100% on game time, but I thought it was under the 4 min TO.

That one at center court was obvious and I think everyone but the refs could see he was going to travel with the body language he was displaying. Missing that call was inexcusable.

I assume Davison will be gone after this year, so it won't really matter, but IMO he should have faced escalating suspensions, not just flagrant foul calls. He only gets called for a few of his fouls that should have been ruled flagrant, if you just focus on him closely, especially on screens and near the basket. I don't think there is anything in place like that in the B1G, mostly because there aren't many players who play like Davison. I think that games are reviewed to evaluate officiating, and maybe this could be a part of it, particularly if the opposing coach points it out. It's hard to believe that Gard can actually stand in front of a camera and complain about flagrant fouls, especially one as blatant as the take down of Keegan.

BINGO

Still don't see the foul they called on Keegan on that play.

The announcers kept saying that they got tangled. Problem is, one guy was doing all the tangling. Murray just stuck his arm out in deny position, all contact was created by Davidson. My guess is they can't reverse a foul call, just add the flagrant call
