Fran will be ok if...

Honestly, the fact that Ellingson got the minutes early in the season that Williams probably deserved is a red flag to me.
I'm not at practice, but while I really like Fran overall, some of his personnel decisions over the years have been baffling to me.

Because early in the year, Ellingson had some knowledge of the system and Williams didn't. Williams is coming along and played very well against IU, but there have been times he has looked lost out there as well. As for Ellingson, I am not that impressed with his game. He really needs to step up, or he is going be on the bench his whole career.

Lands more talented and athletic players. I wonder if has to make room for a great recruiter on his staff.

EVERYONE but Fran let Washpun pass by, he wasn't very good at the time.

Fran was one of only two high major coaches who actually offered him.

So what you are saying is again , completely %100 incorrect.

The two Pgs on this team aren't even tall, so really what the hell are you even talking about?

Williams is literally the only non short pg Fran has recruited here.

Why am I even wasting my time on this stupidity?
Uh, if UNI offered Washpun a scholarship, how then can you say "Everyone" let Washpun pass"? Do you understand what the word "everyone" means? I would think you would since you put it in caps.

What you said, is again, completely 100% incorrect.

Please list me the other PG's on the team? Fran has had such an inexcusable rash against signing PG's, I'm curious. Shall we just say it would be nice if Fran signed any guard who could shoot or beat someone off the dribble. You do realize Fran has elected to sign a bunch of 3/4's, instead of signing guards over the past 3 years. Please tell me you've been paying attention the past 2 years while Iowa has had no quality guards who could come off the bench, and will have an untested sophomore starting, and a true FR as backup.

Why am I wasting my time responding to your foolishness?

Yeah, but your telling me there are no other PG's out there that are quick like him? There are plenty of quick PGs, but few who will knock down outside shots in an instant if you give them an inch because you know they're too good when they get penetration (either finishing or finding an open shooter).

It's called junior college. I am not expecting Ulis-level talent, but these guys are everywhere, see all the teams we play. So you are telling me that the best this veteran staff can do is Oglesby, Fleming, and Ellingson for guard depth? Watch some of the MVC and other conference tournaments and tell me that none of those guys would have wanted to play in the big ten. The guard position in college basketball is like running back in college football.

What part of " Fran tried to recruit over them " did you not understand?

With a juco.

He did exactly what you're complaining he did not do.

Ogelsby? He was offered 6 years ago. Does it really need to be explained why Iowa couldn't get better players at that point?

I get you guys are mad , but good grief, enough with the stupidity.

Everyone = major conference.

You're incapable of carrying on an intellectually consistent argument.

You bitch about him him not offering short guys. False.

You bitch about him not offering Washpun. False.

You bitch about him not signing gaurds. Williams, Moss, Fleming, Ellingson, Dickerson. All gaurds.

You clearly have no clue what you're even bitching about, you're just bitching because you're a bitch.

Yes, but Fran will never recruit a YF talent because he's obsessed with length. Give me skills and talent every day over length.
Got this from ESPN. Someone interviewing Fran about recruiting.
When you evaluate prospects, what are you looking for?
I have to have character and I mean that sincerely with no ‘coach talk.’ We have no time for knuckleheads. The bottom line is if you have real character you will work hard and you will accept coaching, you are going to be a great teammate, and you will mentor young kids. We have a great group of kids here and we have worked hard to make sure of that. I expect my players to work hard. I always get a kick out of the guy who comes in and says, “Coach, I am working really hard and I should play more.” You should expect yourself to work hard. Next you have to perform. If you are going to play here for me, it’s required that you work hard, then you have to perform -- it’s a two-sided formula.

When it comes to skills, I look for guys who can shoot the ball and score the ball. I don’t get hung up on size. ‘In-between’ guys, if they are smart, tough and have character they will be good and can win games for you. I don’t get caught up in positions, I look for skill and ask myself is he a good player? As long as we don’t duplicate too many skill sets and have an overabundance of, say, shooting guards, we can recruit a team full of skill.

The other thing I really look at is rebounding because we run and play at a fast pace, so it will be a high-possession game, and if you are going to play at a fast pace you must rebound the ball.
