I have come to realize that Fran is just not that good of a coach. His offense is stale, the Big 10 has figured it out, there are no wrinkles for times when we can not score. A weak high screen with no roll, and everyone else standing at the three point line is not what this team needs. The defense we run is also terrible, a match up zone needs athletic players at the top to be on the ball, it showed last night as Bo was late time and time again as they sank 3's at will. The defense is lazy, go man from time to time, change it to a 2-3 or 1-3-1, but no, same thing every night, teams kill us using the 3 because they know. This happens every game, no adjustment, no substitutions, just bad coaching. His in game decisions have cost us at least 2 games every year and will cost us a few more. He gets too fired up he doesn't think straight and then he can not make any adjustments, or just doesn't know how, or is too stubborn to see what is going on. How many times do other teams come out after halftime and take the lead by making simple adjustments to what we do. Every coach in the Big 10 knows his halftime adjustments are limited. I like that he has brought our program back to at least being respectable but he is not equipped to take us to the next level. Good coaches adapt, they change, they adjust, Fran has shown that is not his way and will never be his way.
