Freeman out the remainder of season due to finger injury

That would be a lot of coverup for a broken finger. I played baseball with a broken thumb for about 10 days before I had it checked out...thought it was a sprain. Doubt that is the case with Owen with the trainers. Did he have his fingers taped together for games? Most competitive athletes love the excitement of game night...I doubt he would pull himself out unless he was in severe pain. Interesting case!

Whether Freeman is transferring or not, and having the surgery is just to increase his NIL take when transferring is true or not .....

This changes exactly absolutely nothing about the trajectory of this season.

It was already well-entrenched in the shitter. Only difference now is it's gonna take two flushes, instead of one, to be rid of all the end-result fecal matter afterwards.

We probably start getting blown out on the road….oh wait.

The D and rebounding will really suffer…oh wait.

I got nothing. Maybe give up 120 on the road?

I'm not saying I want them to stay. They could both go, I'm not dying on the hill of Frandom. But my money is on both of them still being at Iowa next season.
I would be lying if I said there isn't part of me that expects Fran to be back next season. When it comes to Iowa sports, I find it foolhardy to expect things to go only the way you want them to.

..... but GD do I want to be wrongest I've ever been wrong about that, about Fran staying.

The MBB (AND FB!!!) program needs a hard & complete reboot in the worst way.

I think Iowa will struggle but these kids are not you! First, lets see if Owen gets an operation! Most coaches would have made Owen play through the injury! Owen is a Christian and may obligated to stay by Fran if he is still hear next year! And he he is gone none of these kids are obligated to Iowa! Why stay! It’s obvious that the fanbase is given up on them! In fact why come to Iowa! The fanbase will likely bail, without Owen the rest of the season will have be tough, and likely no post season! I think it will be hard to hire a successful coach if the fanbase bails!
WTF? OK, he's Christian. This in no way obligates him to anything. He can pray on it all he wants and if God wants him to play elsewhere for more money & he can contribute more to his church, so be it.

Personally, I think he stays if Fran stays. If anything, he will wait until his last year and wake up to the fact he needs to get paid more because he will not make an NBA roster.

Yes..a year ago were celebrating the guy who was frosh of week 15 times and frosh of year.
Now so quickly fans turn on him even tho he is the leading scorer and rebounder.
He gets hurt and we are blaming him?
Not fair.
yes, and it was a very weak freshman class to be honest.

And players that don't take any pride in playing defense or giving maximum effort on that end. Easy to blame Fran for everything when the reality is the players lack of effort/pride is a big of problem as any.
It's more than the players when it's happened years on end with different rosters

I really like Freeman and thought he was a great player; not sure why all the hate towards him. I assume that he's transferring and will get PAID handsomely. You can't really blame him. Who wants to play for this coach in front of 4,000 fans every night.
Hate is a strong word. Personally I'm just not down with players quitting on their team before the season they signed up for is over, And NO I don't care what the reasons are. Thats just not what team mates do to the guys who battle with them. Now the rest of his "team mates get to play the rest of the year without their best inside player, HELL only inside player. And that goes for the guys at Kinnick as well. I know others feel differently, and thats fine. Just not the way I was raised. Just another indictment on what $$ has done to the "student athlete".....

Think that’s being a little harsh KC. I don’t think any of us know what’s really going on. He doesn’t seem like the kind of kid that would quit on his team, at least to me.

I wouldn’t put the football program in the same category as MBB. MBB is turning into a train wreck…

They're not in the same category but football needs a reboot just as bad because there is no upside left with Ferentz at his age.
Can’t argue that.

The thing is there are a lot of things I like about KF’s program. Culture, consistency etc

Can’t say there is really anything noteworthy about what Fran has built.

If KF left I’d have a few worries about the new guy. Can they maintain and improve on the standard? Would the program regress?

I’d have no such qualms about Fran leaving.

I wouldn't be shocked if he is back either. Disappointed, but not shocked.

These are Fran’s guys! He recruited these kids and hasn’t developed many into defensive minded players! The players have to produce but the coaches need to do better of evaluating well rounded players that get after it on both ends!

Since players are basically paid employees anymore, we should be able to trade Freeman so at least we get something in return, rather than him just walking out the door with our NIL money.

Disappointing to lose Owen, since he was our best player. But I'll be interested to see how Riley, and Chris, if he gets more minutes, will do. I've wanted to see more size on this team for a long time. And now here we are with no true big men with any real solid minutes at this level. But I'll still watch, just because I wait all year for Hawkeye basketball, and have for the last half century. Can't wait for a change at the top though.

I don't disagree but we're getting to Bowden Paterno territory soon.

I'm basically adding in all the smoke that he's already told Fran he's gone after this season. If so, the this is a calculated move and he's doing this now so he can be ready to hit the portal. If not then maybe I'd be a bit more understanding, but this whole "finger thing" just seems to have come out of nowhere, and I still think he could play if he wanted to. It just seems like some of the guys have mailed it in, other then PS who just uses these games as shooting practice anyway.

You can nitpick but Freeman is not the reason (main) we are terrible. Teams will line up for his talent.
Yup. He's a good player on a poorly coached team with a very unbalanced roster. Perkins got a decent payday to move to a new team. I expect Freeman will garner something better should he decide to go.

Josh Ogundele just had 16 a few games ago vs Tennessee Tech.. too bad he left us.

Mulvey and Ogundele were a killer combo vs Edey in the B1G Championship Game 💪🏻

I am fine with not a single person on this staff or team being back next year unless they are able to buy in to defense and toughness.

BG should show Fran the door sooner than later
