The way the arena staff is talking, it sounds like they expect fans to attend.
I've always liked and admired Coach Few. He's built a solid program over the years. Looking forward to the game.
Should be a dandy.
Mark Few had chances to go elsewhere, too. This game will tell us how good Iowa is & if their D has improved at all.
Gavitt Games canceled
The BIG EAST and Big Ten Conferences have announced a mutually agreed upon decision to cancel the 2020 edition of the Gavitt Tipoff Games due to scheduling adjustments and timing issues presented by the delayed start to the 2020-21 NCAA college basketball season. The conferences have determined that the spirit of the Gavitt Games will be best served by a one-year hiatus and plan to resume their annual non-conference tradition at the start of the 2021-22 season.
The 2020 Gavitt Games were originally scheduled to be played November 16-20, however the start date for the 2020-21 NCAA college basketball season was delayed until November 25. The annual early-season series of eight men’s basketball games has been played between the two conferences since the 2015-16 season and is named in honor of Dave Gavitt, founder of the BIG EAST and basketball visionary.
The BIG EAST and the Big Ten are monitoring all relevant information surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and will continue to make all decisions based on the health, safety and wellness of our student-athletes, coaches, officials and other constituents.

He forgot about Iowa vs Ohio State in Indianapolis but regardless, Dec 19 will be a day filled with some big time sporting events.
And the year we get a marquee national program to come to Carver, it won’t be a full house so fans can have opportunity to enjoy. Too bad

The season likely kicks off on Nov 25 when Iowa hosts its MTE (multi team event).
Fran wants to play a 27 game schedule, which is the maximum # of games a team can play.
Does this 27 game schedule sound about right? As you can see, there appears 2 games yet to be determined.

OCTOBER 12, 2020 UPDATE:
As expected, per Jeff Goodman (see tweet that follows), it looks like Iowa will open its season on November 25th when they host their own MTE (Multi-Team Event) that includes Southern and North Carolina Central. There is expected to be one more team that will join them.
NOTE: The first three games OF THE ORIGINAL SCHEDULE constituted an exempt multi-team event (MTE) that Iowa was hosting. This home "tournament" was considered a classic; it was not a traditional tournament. Iowa, Southern, North Carolina Central and South Dakota were to all play each other. South Dakota was to host two games before playing at Iowa.
ORIGINAL Nonconference Schedule:
Game 1. Nov 10 vs Southern (17-15 last season, 13-5 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference)
Game 2. Nov 13 vs NC Central (18-13, 13-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference)
Game 3. Nov 16 or Nov 20 vs South Dakota (20-12, 10-6 Summit League)

with all the struggles of all 14 schools coming up with a 7 game nonconference schedule, I would imagine that is making putting a conference schedule together difficult
With the Gavitt Games canceled, its too bad we could not have gotten some Big East & B1G teams together for a multi team event (MTE).
These 6 Top 25 teams could have done a round robin where they each got 3 games in, for example. Talk about some great games. Iowa vs #1 Villanova, #11 Creighton and #25 UConn? Sign me up.

Ie, for all teams that play twice: the visiting team stays in town and the 2 teams play twice over a few days.
And look at the WCC, where they are considering bubbling conference games.
Just a lot still up in the air. And games start in 23 days.

Speculation on 22 conference games:
IF we have a 20 game conference schedule w/ no fans:
* 6 teams we play once
* 7 teams we play twice
--example: we travel to Minneapolis. We play the Gophers on a Wed night, stay in town, and then play them again on a Friday night before we return to Iowa City. So, for each team traveling, they get 2 conference games in over a few days.
Do you like this idea, especially if there are no fans? You would not have to worry too much about a home court advantage for 2 straight games and you are more likely to get the 20 conference games in.
