The B1G is the last of the Power 6 to release at least part of their conference schedule.

Meanwhile, teams are still scrambling to finalize their nonconference schedules.

So do we have our opponent for 15 days from now?
Noooooope

That would be incorrect.

On Nov 5, after Northern Illinois was added to our schedule, I updated What we know of Iowa's likely 27 game schedule.

As you should know by now, we are hosting a multi team event (MTE) involving Southern and North Carolina Central + one more team expected to participate.

Again, what I posted on Nov 5:

What we know of IOWA's likely 27 game schedule:

2 games--Starting Nov 25?: Hosting a multi team event (MTE); Southern and North Carolina Central + one more team expected to participate.

1--Dec 8: B1G/ACC Challenge, North Carolina
1--Dec 19: Gonzaga
1--Iowa State
1 --Northern Illinois
20--Conference games
1 game--To be Announced w/ Gavitt Games canceled

Will either of those be on regular tv? I'm not paying btnplus or whatever to watch a 60 to 120 game :(

I would think we ought to have a schedule by early next week if they are actually wanting to get a few games in around Thanksgiving. I'm sure they would like to get a real game or two in before having to go play Gonzaga.

What makes me nervous is we will finally have a full schedule released & then something like what's happened to Seton Hall happens to either us or our opponent. It will be interesting to see which teams get all 27 games in.

@MrsScrew, look at what's going on in New York state. Can Rutgers leave the state of New Jersey & come back and not have to worry about having to quarantine (or something else)? Can visiting teams enter New Jersey without any issues?

This might be part of the conference schedule hold up because we know Kevin Warren proceeds w/ caution.

And check this out:

New Mexico State has decided to relocate for the start of the 20-21 college basketball season. Recent spikes in COVID-19 and intense restrictions by the state of New Mexico prompted the decision. The Aggies are targeting Tucson, Phoenix, and Las Vegas as potential places to settle.

New Mexico State is a combined 83-17 and have won the past three WAC regular season titles under Chris Jans.

@Franisdaman Comrade Murphy has shut down interstate sports for HS level down. As of now, College & pro sports are able to travel to other states & their opponents can come in, without having to quarantine.
Numbers in NJ are rising and, as of last night, restaurants must stop serving food & drink at 10pm & you can't drink or eat at the bar..only tables. (because Covid only wakes up after 10 and knows to infect people at the bar but not at the tables 6 feet away).

NYS has a whole different jerk in charge..

News like this next month could really mess up the B1G/ACC Challenge.

Yes, B1G teams, including Iowa, will be playing on/around Nov 25.

Today, Maryland released its 7 game nonconference schedule.

As you can see, they open on Nov 25. They play 6 games in 15 days (Nov 25-Dec 9).

Will Iowa/the other B1G teams have a similar 6 games in 15 days type schedule?

The other 20 games will be announced soon!!! LOL ;)

The Illini are playing on Nov 25, 26, and 27.

3 games in 3 days in their MTE event.

Will Iowa do the same?

The Illini are still looking for one more nonconference opponent.

Their 6 nonconference opponents are in red below.

I think anything is possible when it comes to Kevin Warren.

I have brought this up before. For the conference teams we play twice: if, for example, we are heading to Minneapolis for a Thursday game, should we just stay and play them again on Saturday and knock off 2 of the 20 conference games?

That's what one conference appears to be doing:

Schedule is backloaded. Iowa is probably only going to be an underdog in 1-2 games before going to Champaign.

Love getting Purdue only once for the first game. They're a young team. Might help us finally get that monkey off our back.

Illinois only once is lame.

IOWA, BIG TEN RELEASE 2020-21 BASKETBALL SCHEDULE

November 18, 2020

IOWA CITY, Iowa —
The University of Iowa, in conjunction with the Big Ten Conference, announced Wednesday its 2020-21 men’s basketball Big Ten schedule. Click HERE to view the complete schedule.

Iowa, ranked fifth nationally in The Associated Press Preseason Poll, plays six of its seven nonconference games on Mediacom Court at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, including the first six of the season.

The Hawkeyes begin the season a week from today, hosting North Carolina Central on Nov. 25 at 3 p.m. (CT). Two days later, Iowa will entertain Southern University on Nov. 27 at 4 p.m. (CT) as part of its multi-team event. Southern will challenge North Carolina Central on Thanksgiving. Both Iowa games will be televised nationally on the Big Ten Network.

The Hawkeyes will entertain North Carolina in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Dec. 8 and Northern Illinois on Dec. 13. The home dates for Iowa’s contest against Western Illinois and the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series game against Iowa State are being finalized and will be announced later.

Iowa closes its nonconference slate versus top-ranked Gonzaga on Dec. 19 at 11 a.m. (CT) in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Iowa’s first of 20 conference games is scheduled for Dec. 22 in Iowa City against Purdue. The Hawkeyes will play the Boilermakers, Nebraska, Penn State once at home, while playing Illinois, Michigan and Maryland once on the road. Iowa will play the other seven league teams twice.

Iowa’s second conference game will be played on Christmas Day at Minnesota. It marks just the third time in program history that the Hawkeyes will play on Christmas; the previous two times were in holiday tournaments in Hawaii in 1984 and 1988.

The Hawkeyes have seven players returning with starting experience, including All-American senior center Luka Garza, and upperclassmen all-conference honorees Jordan Bohannon and Joe Wieskamp, and Connor McCaffery, who led all Division I players in assist-to-turnover ratio a year ago.

Game times and television information for each game will be announced later.

It would have made more sense to focus on regions for 2-plays considering Covid-19. Only getting one game each against Nebraska and (especially) Illinois, while playing Rutgers twice, is a head scratcher. Oh well.

The Hawks have a challenging schedule. Twelve games against preseason AP Top 25 teams, including #1 Gonzaga, #7 Wisconsin, #8 Illinois, #13 MSU, and #16 UNC.

I think we beat the Tar Heels but fall to the Zags in a close game. Split with Sparty and Bucky, beat the Illini, and drop two more games against the rest of the conference to finish 16-4 Big Ten, 20-5 overall. Maybe that's good enough to win the regular season title this year, maybe not. But it should be good enough for a 3 seed in the NCAAs.

Honestly, the Gonzaga game feels like a tossup, but they have a great team as always and Mark Few is an excellent coach so I give them the edge. It would be great to avenge the Round of 32 loss in Brooklyn from a few years ago, but they're one of the few teams in the country that can keep pace with Iowa's offense. I expected it, but it stinks that the Sanford Pentagon ran out of tickets before they could sell to the general public. That would have been a big advantage to Iowa.

=======================

On November 4 (as you can see above) we pretty much knew what the 27 game schedule was going to look like.

We only had one nonconference foe to be named. Western Illinois will be the final nonconference opponent.

And, as expected on Nov 4, Iowa begins the season on Nov 25, hosting a multi-team event (MTE).

* Iowa will host North Carolina Central on Nov. 25 at 3 p.m. (CT).

* Two days later, Iowa will entertain Southern University on Nov. 27 at 4 p.m. (CT).

Still missing most ooc it appears?
On Nov 4, Iowa had one nonconference opponent to be named.

Today we found out it would be Western Illinois.

From the story:

The home dates for Iowa’s contest against Western Illinois and the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series game against Iowa State are being finalized and will be announced later.

The 7 nonconference opponents:

1. Nov 25: NC Central
2. Nov 27: Southern
3. Dec 8: North Carolina
4. Dec 13: Northern Illinois
5. Dec 19: Gonzaga

6. TBA: Iowa State
7. TBA: Western Illinois

* Iowa’s first of 20 conference games is scheduled for Dec. 22

It will be interesting to see where the Iowa State & Western Illinois games land.

Anything can happen in covid era ball, I'd just take it one game at a time.

Big mistake if they allow fans in bball games! Real head scratcher when outdoor attendance isn't allowed!?!?

Hopefully the arena will require spectators to provide proof of a negative Covid test within 48 hours of the game, plus digital temp taking and mandatory face coverings.
